A Note About Parking For Lessons at my Home Studio:

I live in a small town home complex, and all the interior parking spots are numbered and assigned to residents. Visitors must park on Folkestone Road or Mobile Drive, then walk into the complex. My home is near the northwest corner of the complex, on the west side. Feel free to call when you arrive so I can come meet you!

Voice: I specialize in Bel Canto--helping students to release tension and produce a powerful tone with as little effort as possible. This is an amazing vocal technique which can be adapted to so many styles. I also teach Musical Theater techniques. If you can master the techniques of Bel Canto and Musical Theater, and become fluent in reading music, you can sing anything.

I start the lesson with 10-15 minutes of warmups and vocalises (vocal exercises). Then we'll move into your songs, working to apply the techniques you learn in the warmups to the songs. I'll work with you to help you perfect the pitches and rhythms of your song as a foundation, then add appropriate style and performance elements. My primary role is to guide you in navigating the sounds and sensations you will experience as you sing. I will teach you what to listen for and feel for as you sing, to keep your voice functioning optimally and sounding awesome!

Piano: I teach beginning piano lessons (up through level 2 in most traditional method books). For children, I can teach from the Bastien, Alfred, or Faber series. For absolute beginners, I highly recommend learning with a new curriculum released in 2013 by Hoffman Academy in Bend, Oregon. I teach from this curriculum and I prefer it over any of the other method books mentioned above.

For youth and adults, I usually teach from the Faber series for adults. However, I am also willing to use a student-led approach, where you select a song you want to learn to play and we work on it together for as long as it takes you to play it. (This approach is championed by Scott "The Piano Guy" Houston).

*** Studio Equipment ***
Digital Piano, Music Stand, Mirror, Repertoire Books, Laptop with Internet Access

*** Travel Equipment ***
I can bring a cd player and a music stand if the student does not have these items.
For piano students, the student must provide a keyboard.
For voice students, it is vastly preferable that the student provide a keyboard, but not necessary. The student must provide a full length mirror.
All students are responsible to purchase the assigned curriculum materials and bring them to each lesson.
