We love Emily!

My son is taking singing lessons from Emily in our home, and I'm thrilled with his progress. All I was looking for was a way to build his confidence, but now I have a kid that sings while doing the dishes, explores new music types, and is learning to read music...in less than a couple of months. I love how Emily has adapted each lesson toward what my son is interested in....scales to the Dr. Who or Star Wars themes...who knew? We love Emily and highly recommend her.

Emily is a very fun and awesome teacher!

I took singing lessons with Emily for a little more then 3 months and my singing has improved tremendously, thanks to Emily! She was always patient with me, she never made me feel embarrassed or like I can't sing. She was flexible with choice of songs, even Russian ones! The focus was always on me and to improve my voice. I would recommend Emily to anyone. She is very fun and easy to work with!

Emily is the best!

Emily is an amazing teacher!

I studied with her for a few months and can't wait to come back! She was incredibly effective and insightful with every lesson and concept. She made me feel comfortable from the start and inspired my confidence with warmth, enthusiasm, games, and mental and emotional tasks that freed my true voice. I give her the highest recommendation for anyone looking for the best teacher!

I wouldn't count myself as an advanced teacher of the female voice, but am incredibly comfortable with all levels of the male voice. Attending Oregon State University on a Vocal Performance Scholarship.

About kyle

Hey!

My name is Kyle S. and I'm incredibly passionate about music education for all ages. Over twenty years of playing all instruments has taught me there is not one specific way to teach music, so I change my curriculum for every student and completely customize what you learn to how you learn, and what you're interested in. I started teaching music lessons in after school programs when I was eleven and fell totally in love. I continued to do this for many years driving to neighboring towns, volunteering at church youth groups and local Boys and Girls Club all around my hometown.

I went on to study Music Education at Oregon State University and Guitar Performance at the University of Oregon and Jazz Performance on Guitar at Portland State University! At each of these ...

Kyle has been one of the most helpful music teachers I've had the privilege to take lessons from. He cuts through all of the extraneous pedantries that so often inhibit real effective music instruction and learning. He is approachable and down to earth while wielding a vast and comprehensive knowledge of music, which makes for a genuinely satisfying and productive educational experience. Five stars for sure.

Kyle has a deep understanding of music. He knows the theory far beyond an ivy halls definition of things. He understands what is important and what is used by a playing musician. This is helping me get a deep understanding of music. I am very confident that if I put in the effort I can not help but become a good musician who will be able to lay a nice arrangement under a melody or accompany myself or others. Kyle gives you the knowledge and the exercises needed to succeed. I highly recommend Kyle.

I have been a piano teacher for 30 years and taught my grandson. I moved out of state and did some research. My goal was to find a teacher where my grandson could ride his bike to lessons, a young role model with good credentials. I got 3 choices and after talking with all 3, Kyle was it. He is wonderful; inspirational, inspiring, creative and encouraging. He is not a push over. He has expectations and the enthusiasm and commitment on the part of my grandson (14 yrs. old) is a dream come true!

Helped me build my voice

Julia V. taught me that we all really can sing, we’ve just filled our heads with mistakes we were taught as children and a sense of embarrassment about singing. She has released me from those old thought habits and helped me regain good posture (“sternum up and proud”), open up my lungs, build a solid foundation for air flow, take the tension off my vocal cords, and tell stories in song. Like the way we naturally talk.

Jane is an excellent instructor. She is wonderfully enthusiastic about music and makes her students feel the same way. My daughter started with piano lessons but eventually switched to harmonica... no problem for Jane! In addition to the lessons, Jane recorded my daughter's music - very cool! - so now I have copies of to listen to. She comes up with interesting music that appeals to my daughter and keeps her engaged. She researches different artists to demonstrate different ways the same instrument can be played to give my daughter a broader perspective of what she can do with her instrument. Jane is a terrific teacher. We've been with her for years, from grade school up through high school, and wouldn't have anyone else.

Ms. Jane is an amazing music teacher and a blessing to my family. My son has Aspergers and showed some difficulty in beginning music lessons, almost 2 years ago. Ms. Jane responded by taking the time to talk to me, figure him out, and find things that would work for him. She is patient, kind, and truly passionate about teaching children to love music. My son came to know Ms. Jane as not only a teacher but also as a good friend, and for that I will always be grateful.....Thank you Ms. Jane!!

Kristin does an amazing job of meeting me where my abilities and needs are. She listens to what I want out of the lessons, but also challenges me to stretch beyond what I think I can do... and I'm often delightfully surprised. She also teaches me a great deal of music theory as we work through singing which is wonderful. Her guidance in helping me use my "instrument" properly has been so valuable. And she is very patient and intuitive in the process.
