Beginning and intermediate piano
I am a classically trained pianist who competed in the Dallas/Ft. Worth area for 15 years (began lessons at age 5). I graduated from UT Austin with a Bachelor's in Education because I knew I enjoyed teaching. Unfortunately, what I didn't know at that time was I enjoyed teaching outside a classroom setting! That is why I teach independently, and also only on a subject that I hold dear: piano playing.
While I do posses the training that allows me to instruct students who are interested in performance level musicianship, I have students who are beginners or are picking up the skill again. I have one man who wants to learn all the classical pieces. I have one girl who only wants to learn Beauty and the Beast! I love teaching both students because they each present unique challenges, goals and progress. So no matter what your interest is, I will make sure you are happy and successful!

What you can expect from me: After a brief discussion (which involves me asking you what your goals are, what your background in music is, how much time you have to practice, etc.), we will formulate a plan that will help you achieve your goals. Whether that's a goal to learn all your scales by the end of the month, learn where middle C is, learn to read with greater speed, or learn Bach by the end of the year; we can make it happen! I do not expect you to learn the way I was taught (although if you want a strict regimen as your goal, I can provide that). I am a big believer in motivating you in the way that helps YOU succeed! I promise I am patient, pleasant and enjoy my job; you have nothing to be afraid of.
What I expect from you: I obviously want you to have a piano (you'd be surprised how many people contact me for lessons without one...) I expect you to show respect for my schedule by cancelling in a reasonable window. Most importantly, I expect you to communicate honestly with me about your goals and if you want me to change how I explain things, tell me. After all, I am here to help you learn and it's very easy for a teacher to forget that they aren't breaking down the subject enough for their students. And I want you to practice!!!! Pretty please! PRACTICE IS CRITICAL!
A note to parents: If I am instructing your child, please be prepared to communicate regularly with me about his/her progress and specific goals. I want my students to practice at home on a continuous basis and this may mean you, as the parent, must reinforce this expectation at home with your child on a DAILY basis. The only way to progress in any skill is repetition and structure; piano is no different.

I own a 1942 Kimball Consolette piano (see pic of studio). She's old but she has soul. I have a variety of sheet music that I can provide (the student must sign the music "in and out" when using it so I can keep track of who has what and can only mark it in pencil).
*** Travel Equipment ***
I expect the student to have pencils in a variety of colors, a metronome and obviously, a piano.

I am a classically trained pianist who competed in the Dallas/Ft. Worth area for 15 years. This means that I was trained to perform and compete only, playing songs that were required by competition guidelines. I participated in everything: Jazz, Sonatina, State, Solo, Ensemble, Regional, Hymn, you name it! This also means my "specialty" is classical music (Mozart, Bach, etc.)

First, I absolutely love my job, and I am 110% dedicated to your success.
My name is Micah and I have a Bachelor's in English Literature from Boston University. I have lived in Europe and Mexico, learning Spanish and teaching English. I have also worked for a newspaper in Boston.
I have over 5 years experience teaching English and Spanish to companies all over Dallas: US companies want to learn Spanish and companies from Korea, Japan, and Spain want to improve their English. And they hire me to help them reach their goals.
I also have afterschool programs with two elementary schools in Dallas, teaching Spanish to grades 3-6. Whether you are an adult, teen or child, you will enjoy the classes and begin learning from the first moment we begin the lesson. I customize my lessons to your way of learning and your pace. My entire focus is on my students and what they need to reach their goals.
I am a dynamic, driven and determined tutor, not to mention fun. Whether you need to pass a particularly difficult exam or you want to learn or improve English or Spanish, we will work together to succeed.
Send me an email and we will strategize on how to structure your lessons in order to reach your goals.
