My goal as a teacher is to make students successful in their goals. I work with a variety of people; some of them study music for personal enjoyment and others for their musical career. Everyone responds differently to music, that is why I prepare special lessons for each student. It is important that my students enjoy what they are playing and for that reason I have a variety of repertoire that they can choose from.
From a lot of experience with beginner piano students, both young and adults, I have been able to find a regimen of piano teaching that combines time efficiency with fun. As the lessons continue, I slowly add new tools to each weekly lesson that are exiting and interesting. While working with intermediate to advanced students, I have had coached them to apply and get accepted into some of the top Universities and Conservatories in the country. My students, beginner intermediate and advanced levels, have been awarded for their performances and activities in schools and competitions.
I am also a composition teacher. I work with composition students from beginner to advance. My composition students, over the years, range from all ages starting at 7. My students, after the first year, have been able to write string quartets and piano trios. My advanced students have entered competitions all over the country and are very successful in their composition practice. Some of their compositions have been performed in famous concert halls and schools.
As a vocal coach, I work with students of all ages. The repertoire that I recommend to beginner students includes Disney, Broadway and classical music. For intermediate and advanced vocal student, I have successfully prepared them for competitions, Broadway and University auditions as well as personal enjoyment.
Most recently I held a piano, composition and vocal recital for my students at the world famous Steinway Hall in New York City. I believe that some students work better when there is motivation for performance activities. For that reason I host these type of events. Students that decide they want to take place in these events perform among all levels. I offer these performance opportunities as an invitation. Each student has a choice as to whether they would like to perform.

Singing

About Me

There are lots of reasons people take singing lessons...a dream of performing for crowds, wanting to melt faces at karaoke, not being embarrassed when singing in the shower... But the common goal is finding your voice and creating a sound you love. My studio is designed to create a space where that process is comfortable and fun! Lessons will start wherever you’re at and go at your own pace towards your specific goals.

I was trained at the School of Creative Arts in Sydney, Australia and specialize in pop, rock and indie rock vocal technique. I work with a lot of beginners as well as people in bands and songwriters.

I'm from an extremely musical family and have always loved singing. (I almost pushed my parents over the edge as a kid because I would hum CONSTANTLY...) I lived in Haiti, the Dominican Republic and the US of A growing up and then moved to Sydney, Australia after high school to study music. I've been running a vocal studio in San Diego for the past few years and have now relocated to NYC with my band.

We'll start off by talking through your goals for your voice and what you want to achieve from taking lessons. We will work on different techniques that make up a great voice and then apply what you learned to the music you love. Lessons are fun and we will work hard to bring out your best voice and create a sound you love!

About Me

My name is Briana and I studied music education at Hofstra University specializing in voice. I have my degree in Music Education K-12 B.A. I'm part of many ensembles there such as the Chorale and Chamber choir. I am currently teaching music in Island Trees and Syosset school districts. I have sung the national anthem for the Nassau Coliseum for many of their events. Being I have been taking professional private voice lessons since age 7, I want to share what I have learned with my students! I studied contemporary music techniques (belting) for 10 years and operatic techniques for 8 years. I have prepared many children for NYSSMA / various performances and look forward to helping my students grow not only as great singers but musicians!

*** Lesson Details ***
My lessons will help you find out what type of singer you are! My goal is to inspire you to be the most well rounded musician you can be, while having fun with all types of music!

During each lesson we will begin with some basic warm ups that will not only figure out your range as a vocalist, but expand it as well. We will always have a piece of music we are working on which will be worked on at each lesson. As far as the repertoire of music, I am extremely lenient. I am always looking to see what my students are interested in learning and try my very best to accommodate to your sense of style. I can teach you the proper way of belting out an Adele song to singing one of Mozart's operas. Each song that we tackle will be "torn apart" as I like to say it. We will work on the diction using Italian vowels, the rhythms, and the notes. If there is a problem spot we will work on it until you have succeeded and feel good about it! Toward the end of the lessons, most times I will have a short sight reading example to allow you to explore the melody line and give it your own sense of style. This is all to make you become a better all around musician!

I am very big into breathing technique, Italian vowels, expression and intonating! This will all be incorporated into the song we are working on at the time.

To make your practicing at home during the week a lot easier, I often record our warmups and you singing your song. I then email it you for that week so that you can remember what we did and see what spots we worked on so you can improve while practicing!

I am so excited to be a part of your musical journey and help you grow! :)

*** Studio Equipment ***

Lessons take place at my home studio. Lessons may be recorded on my professional recording equipment or you may bring your own recording devices. This is an excellent learning tool. I teach my students how to extend their range, increase breath control and the freedom of their body in order to enable a free and easy produced vocal tone. I teach song repertoire to the student's particular musical style choices. I also work with students that wish to write their own songs so that their musical ideas can be heard clearly and precisely. A guitar is available for students if they wish to use it to accompany themselves. I teach my students how to deal with performance anxiety . Students are presented in recitals twice a year and performance classes are held once a month in addition to the private lessons.
