Would you just like to learn a few songs on the piano, violin or guitar? Or you'd like your child be become next Joshua Bell or Evgenij Kissin? My lessons are designed with each individual student in mind. I will start my lesson with introduction and proceed with warm-up routine. I always make sure that the student is comfortable with the pace that I am offering. I am mixing elements of music theory, history and performance techniques in order to help my student to embrace the beauty of music making experience. All my students are ready to perform at the recital after just 3-4 months of lessons.

On any given day you may find Cole K. improvising in a small club in Brooklyn, circuit-bending a Speak And Spell, or arranging horn parts for pop stars. He is a trumpet player, electronic musician, and composer living in Brooklyn, NY. K. is currently involved with a variety of projects including chamber indie band Cuddle Magic, People’s Champs (west African influenced dance music), and his own solo project for trumpet and laptop. He, along with The Superpowers Horns, arranged and recorded the horn parts for Beyonce Knowles’ two most recent albums (4 and Beyonce.) He attended New England Conservatory of Music where he received a Bachelors degree in Jazz Studies.
Cole tailors each lesson to the students needs. From learning the fundamentals of your instrument to expressing your individual creativity, the process is focused and fun. Cole has taught 4 year olds to write songs and 40 year old how to play jazz trumpet.

I've been playing with classical ensembles and rock bands since 2001. Even though I started on classical trombone and rock guitar, I have come to expand my repertoire to a variety of instruments and genres. During my time in college I performed with the University choir, orchestra, and band. I also have organized, wrote/arranged for, and performed with a variety of bands in my home state of New Mexico, as well as Japan, and the San Francisco Bay Area.
Since 2006 I have been an active teacher. This profession has taken me everywhere from working with classical guitar classes in New Mexico high schools to Elementary students in Japan to a variety of private students of various musical instruments and genres everywhere I've been. Since relocating to the Bay Area in 2010, I've had the pleasure of working with lots of great students from kids to adults with a wide range of ambitions. More recently I've also started teaching online lessons via Skype and Google Helpouts with Take Lessons as well.
Philosophy of Learning
Lessons are generally in a relaxed setting and designed to work towards accomplishing student determined goals. While all students will study similar fundamentals regarding technique, theory, and performance, every lesson is as different as every person. What kind of music do you want to make? I'll tell you what you need to do to get there, and help you take the steps to achieve your aspirations.
I also love to help students put together a song, record, and produce it for them so that they can have a recording to share with their friends and family.
Lessons with small children are more focused on just having fun while developing a good musical foundation, but I prefer for them to have as much personal ownership of their lesson as possible like my older students as well.
I also hold events for all my students. (Check out our pictures and videos below!)
Younger students have the "Young Musicians Recital" every few months where individual students and band classes have a chance to perform and celebrate their accomplishments with friends and family.
Adult students have periodic events where they get a chance to get together and play music as well.
Aside from in-studio lessons, students also have the option to sign up for online lessons via Skype as well as do a drop-in lesson through Google Helpouts.

*Unfortunately due to scheduling issues, I'm not currently accepting students for bi-weekly lessons. I can do regular weekly lessons, or occasional drop-in lessons, but bi-weekly appointments make it really hard for me to give the best scheduled times to my existing weekly students. I'm sorry for the inconvenience.

Christian D. has been playing saxophone for fourteen years. He attended Churchville-Chili High School and attempted to take every music class his school had to offer. He was always very involved in his school's music program. He took private lessons with Mr. Terry Bacon (a graduate from Eastman School of Music) for eight years before going to college. He just completed his BM in Music Education and Saxophone Performance at SUNY Fredonia. There he studied classical with Dr. Wildy Zumwalt and jazz with Bruce Johnstone.
Christian has been in many elite bands since the start of his career as a musician. He has participated in the Roberts Wesleyan Honors Band, Hochstein School of Music Junior Wind Symphony, All-County Band, and New York Area All State band, as well as performing as a soloist for the All-County orchestra his junior year in high school.
Christian has received many awards to merit his efforts in music. Some of these include the Eastman Award given to high school juniors who plan to major in music and who excel above others in school. He also received a $200 scholarship for his jazz-playing ability from the Independence Jazz reunion.
At Fredonia, Christian was involved in everything the music program had to offer. He participated in major ensembles, a saxophone quartet, saxophone ensemble, a big band, and a jazz sax combo, in addition to his regular course load. He was a founding member of the Bogus on Temple Blues Band that actively played in the Fredonia area for a year and a half. He is also a member of the musical fraternity of Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia.
Now that his BM is completed, Christian is pursuing his Masters in Jazz performance at New Jersey City University. There he studies with Bob Malach and Joel Weiskopf. He is actively playing gigs in the New York City and suburban area while at school. When he is home he plays with Nik Entertainment Co. and other various groups in the Western New York area, including Night Trane, a jazz combo he helped found.

I am a professional music teacher, and teach private one-on-one music lessons for Drums, Bass, Guitar (electric & Acoustic), Voice, and Trombone.
Students are introduced to their instruments in a fun and understandable way. Technique, music theory, and reading are taught through song form, which creates a strong foundation and love for music. We are having fun, while getting the job done.
I think that the key to music lessons is the fun and inspiration factor. I remember taking drum lessons from my first teacher who had this GIANT chrome drum set and it just made me want to go home and practice. My main goal with each lesson is to get "one nugget" that the student can walk away with. Either a reading tip, or a song form, or a lick…something tangible that makes them want to practice and get better.
I also was a martial arts teacher for many years in Los Angeles, and one the main things that my teacher taught me was to "keep the student going". It's all about inspiration, fun, challenge, setting and achieving goals…and did I mention fun. When something makes us laugh, we tend to want to do it more.
When I attended Musicians Institute THE BIG THING was seeing the worlds top musicians sitting 3 feet in front of you explaining how they do what they do…it was a life altering experience. And then of course they would ask us to come up on stage to play so that they could critique and help us….wow, talk about pressure. But in the end it was all worth it, and like I said, seeing all of those great players gave me the "reality check" to shoot for and reach that goal of becoming a professional musician.
Another thing that I really enjoy about teaching, other than the fact that I get to help mold young minds, and influence the future (a responsibility I take seriously and with much thought and deliberation) is simply that i GET TO PLAY ALL DAY. I structure my lessons so that each time we start we do a warm-up, then we do some repetition, then we learn something new, then repeat that. so I am essentially playing a good 80 to 95% of each lesson. That inspires my students because they see how much fun i am having and they're like "yeah, I can do this".
So I like to keep things light and happy as we start the lesson, get serious toward the middle, and then end on a happy note like jamming on what we learned, or doing something fast and exciting….so that the last thing you remember as you leave is…"I can't wait to come back". It really works well for students and for me too.
