About Me

I've appeared on records with dozens of NYC area rock and pop bands, and perform as a classical and jazz trombonist in all five boroughs and New Jersey.

I listen to and play all kinds of music from Beethoven to Stravinsky, Arcade Fire to Beyonce, James Brown to Snoop Dogg/Lion. I have had the pleasure to share the stage with rockers Dee Snider (Twisted Sister), Scott Weiland (Stone Temple Pilots), and Mike Portnoy (Dream Theater), and jazz greats Maynard Ferguson, Jimmie Lunceford, Conrad Herwig, "Blue" Lou Marini, and Jeff Coffin (Flecktones).

I've played acoustic and electric guitar, bass guitar, trumpet, trombone, tuba, French horn, violin, cello, and string bass in virtually all different styles. Some of my favorite recent projects have been:
-Quilty (Pavement-style hard rock band)
-The Nevermind Orchestra (brass band that covers Nirvana tunes; I play trombone)
-Chill Sons (my own band for which I write songs, play guitar, and sing)
-Manhattan Symphonie (an entertaining symphony orchestra featuring soloists on piano, violin, saw, urdu, and tap shoes)

It is a treat to share music with others, and my lessons are fun, challenging, and engaging.

Thanks for stopping by to look at my profile! Let's hang out and do music things.

About Me

My Background

I've been playing with classical ensembles and rock bands since 2001. Even though I started on classical trombone and rock guitar, I have come to expand my repertoire to a variety of instruments and genres. During my time in college I performed with the University choir, orchestra, and band. I also have organized, wrote/arranged for, and performed with a variety of bands in my home state of New Mexico, as well as Japan, and the San Francisco Bay Area.

Since 2006 I have been an active teacher. This profession has taken me everywhere from working with classical guitar classes in New Mexico high schools to Elementary students in Japan to a variety of private students of various musical instruments and genres everywhere I've been. Since relocating to the Bay Area in 2010, I've had the pleasure of working with lots of great students from kids to adults with a wide range of ambitions. More recently I've also started teaching online lessons via Skype and Google Helpouts with Take Lessons as well.

Philosophy of Learning

Lessons are generally in a relaxed setting and designed to work towards accomplishing student determined goals. While all students will study similar fundamentals regarding technique, theory, and performance, every lesson is as different as every person. What kind of music do you want to make? I'll tell you what you need to do to get there, and help you take the steps to achieve your aspirations.

I also love to help students put together a song, record, and produce it for them so that they can have a recording to share with their friends and family. (You can hear some of the recordings I've made with my students in my "Pics & Media" tab.)

Lessons with small children are more focused on just having fun while developing a good musical foundation, but I prefer for them to have as much personal ownership of their lesson as possible like my older students as well.

I also hold events for all my students. (Check out our pictures and videos below!)
Younger students have the "Young Musicians Recital" every few months.
Adult students have a weekly "Jam Session Night" that they're welcome to come to whenever they'd like.

Aside from in-studio lessons, students also have the option to sign up for online lessons via Skype as well as do a drop-in lesson through Google Helpouts.
(*Online lessons offered during different times than in-studio lessons.)

*Unfortunately due to scheduling issues, I'm not currently accepting students for bi-weekly lessons. I can do regular weekly lessons, or occasional drop-in lessons, but bi-weekly appointments make it really hard for me to give the best scheduled times to my existing weekly students. I'm sorry for the inconvenience.

My studio is equipped with:

*Multiple Music Stands

*P.A. System

*Vocal and instrument microphones

*Guitars, Basses, and a Banjo

*Two guitar amps (1 tube, 1 solid state) and a bass amp

*Various percussion including both a full acoustic and full electric drum sets

*An 88 Key Keyboard (with extensive sound library and synth programming options)

*A Trombone, Cornet, and Flute

*An extensive physical and virtual music library

*A recording system that students are not only welcome to use but encouraged to

*HD Webcam and condenser microphone for high fidelity online lessons via Skype

Jordan M. San Diego, CA

Subjects Taught

Bass Guitar, Clarinet, Guitar, Harmonica, Music Performance, Music Theory, Piano, Saxophone, Trombone, Trumpet, Tuba, Ukulele

About Me

Do you want a teacher who keeps you motivated and focused, who can show you all the skills of a well-rounded musician in a relaxed, friendly environment? I am the teacher for you! With a solid foundation in classical technique and experience as a jazz performer, we will tailor a plan for you to achieve your dreams in any style.

Jordan was born and raised in the El Centro, California where he began playing the alto sax in the elementary band program. At the age of 12, he began his study of guitar and drums, performing in several rock and ska bands around his home town and San Diego. At age 14, is where he found his love for brass instruments when he took up the trombone. While in high school he became a featured soloist with the Imperial Valley College Jazz Orchestra, under the direction of the legendary trumpeter Jimmy Cannon. It was this that lead Jordan to accept the Constance Weldon Music Scholarship to attend the University of Miami in Coral Gables, FL.

While performing in South Florida Jordan appeared with major acts including 10,000 Maniacs, and appeared on the Spanish television show "Calle Ocho." He also gained invaluable experience teaching in Miami public schools. His first teaching assignment was at Hialeah-Miami Lakes Senior High School where he directed 3 beginning bands, Concert Band, Wind Ensemble, and their highly decorated Jazz Band. Later Jordan moved into the elementary setting, teaching vocal and instrumental music for grades K-5 at Cypress Elementary.

In 2007, Jordan returned to California to pursue a music career in San Diego. He can be seen performing all over San Diego, Orange, and LA Counties in styles ranging from rock, jazz, funk, blues, hip-hop, Latin, and more. He performs primarily on trombone, piano, and guitar, but is known to pick up percussion, harmonica, and other wind instruments as well. Jordan, along with the rest of the aggressively funky cover band SuperMagnetic, were the grand prize winner of the 2010 Viejas Ultimate Music Challenge 4. In 2011, Tori Roze & The Hot Mess were nominated for a San Diego Music Award in the category of "Best Blues Artist" after the release of their first album "From The Hip." They released their second album "Turbulence" last December, and are heard regularly on local San Diego radio. This album has also been nominated for Best Pop album for the 2013 San Diego Music Awards. This spring, Jordan completed his Master of Music degree in Jazz Studies from San Diego State University.

On stage, Jordan is a talented and versatile performer. He is known for his trombone sound and improvisational ability, as well as his positive relationship with his fellow musicians. In lessons, Jordan is energetic and creative.

Brian B. North Hills, CA

Subjects Taught

French Horn, Music Performance, Trombone, Trumpet, Tuba

About Me

I am a middle school band and orchestra teacher and brass musician with performance experience on horn, trumpet, and euphonium, as well as voice. Some of the ensembles I have performed with include the Los Angeles Philharmonic, Masters Orchestra, and Crown City Symphony. I also coordinate the Los Angeles Hornsaplenty Christmas event and invite my students to participate in it as well as TubaChristmas in Los Angeles or Anaheim, because if you don't enjoy playing your instrument, you shouldn't keep playing it!

I hold a BA in music education and a teaching credential from California State University in Northridge, and have studied with Roy Poper (studio trumpeter), David Washburn (trumpet for California Philharmonic and LA Chamber Orchestra), and Brian O'Connor (studio hornist). For this reason, I tend to favor methods from James Stamp and Vincent De Rosa, but feel that every lesson plan should be tailored to the individual student's needs.

With nearly a decade of teaching experience in the Los Angeles Unified School District, I have guided many students in playing various instruments and continue to dedicate my time and energy to refining my instructional delivery so that it makes the trickiest concepts clear in the students' mind.
