I have been happily playing music for over 12 years now and it has always been the light in my day. Now it is my hope to shed that same light onto you or your child. I am a very friendly and fun teacher with a great deal of professionalism and patience, even more importantly I LOVE teaching and I LOVE music with a passion. I have been playing an instrument since the 4th grade (cello) and, as I learned how music works, was slowly able to pick-up a greater variety instruments with an increasing degree of ease. I am originally from Northeast Kansas, where I started playing guitar and studying music at the age of 9.

While studying guitar, I had several influential teachers, including internationally renowned finger-style guitarist, Andy McKee, and University of Montana Professor of Music and Classical Guitar, Dr. Luis Millan.

Later, in my teens, I also began playing the Banjo, Mandolin, accordion, and other various instruments.

While attending college at Washburn University in Topeka, KS, I began teaching private music lessons to students of all ages, and experience levels in Northeast Kansas. During this time, I also recorded and regularly performed with my bluegrass/country/cajun band.

I have experience playing and teaching numerous genres including rock, pop, country, blues, jazz, bluegrass, cajun/zydeco, reggae, classical, folk, etc.

Let's see, first and foremost I'm a music lover of the highest order. Whether it's jazz, rock, indie, classical, hip-hop or country, if it's good music, I love it. I take great pride in the fact that when I go out for a run and put my ipod on shuffle, I could end up listening to just about anything; from the Beatles to the Arcade Fire, Miles Davis, Igor Stravinsky, Stephen Sondheim, Phish, Kanye West or Johny Cash.

I grew up obsessively listening to everything i could get my hands on, and began playing guitar at the age of 11. That was cut short, though, when the next year I almost lost my middle finger on my left hand in an ice skating incident. It took 5 years for me to regain the strength and motion, during which time I was forced to give up guitar playing altogether. I never lost my passion for music, though, and in my heart i never stopped dreaming about what it would be like to be a professional musician. I started taking piano lessons at the ripe age of 4, but I quickly found my calling on the guitar. At the age of 20, and with 13 years of playing experience, I graduated from the Roberto-Venn School of Luthiery (guitar building), after building both an acoustic and an electric guitar and receiving repair certification from Fender.
I later completed my Bachelor’s Degree of Music in the field of classical guitar performance, at ASU in 2007.
During this time I expanded to other instruments such as the Ukulele, Banjo, Mandolin, Dulcimer and Bass Guitar.

I am involved with a number of extra musical activities that are available for you. First, I am part of a weekly jam session where my students meet and jam on a rotation with other music students in the phoenix area (drummers, singers, piano players, other guitarists of all ages) From this has spawned a number of bands. I started taking music very seriously in middle school when I began guitar lessons at a local music shop. I was inspired at the time to learn all of my favorite Beatles songs as well as the punk music I was totally obsessed with. At the time I was fortunate enough to have been learning from a college educated musician Dr. Mark Cook, director of Composition and Music Theory at Shepherd University and Gerry Kunkel, Guitar chair at Maryland University. My passion for music grew exponentially from this point on and I spent the next years playing in as many ensembles as possible in school as well as my own bands with friends, a chance for me to work on my own compositions. As my drive for music increased I began taking lessons for other instruments including piano, trombone, and voice. This constant practice and dedication to the study of theory eventually resulted in my acceptance to the University of the Arts in Philadelphia to study jazz guitar performance.

I have been teaching guitar for over a decade and love doing it. Before we get into how you can succeed as a guitarist here is a little background about me. I grew up in a small town and began playing guitar at age 12. I was taught a few chords from friends and tried to learn songs from tabs on the Internet. After a couple years I realized the need for formal training, so I began taking classical guitar lessons. I was introduced to formal music instruction and my abilities really blossomed. I became enamored with the guitar, and music as a whole, and decided to pursue music as a profession. I attended University of Colorado at Denver and received a Bachelors in Jazz Guitar performance.

Born in Arlington, Texas, I began playing guitar and bass guitar in high school. After studying for several years under Joey Faust, I studied Jazz, Classical Guitar, and Music Theory at TCC in Fort Worth. I've been teaching since 2003, my students ranging in age from 3 to over 70. I also play piano, mandolin, banjo, and ukulele.

John was born and raised near Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He began playing the guitar and composing music at the age of twelve. From 2002 to 2004, John attended Indiana University of Pennsylvania where he studied classical guitar performance and became the guitarist for the University Jazz Ensemble. John transferred to Berklee College of Music in the fall of 2004. At Berklee, he performed in guitar quartets and quintets and majored in Composition. He will receive his Bachelor's Degree in May of 2011.

I've been teaching guitar, mandolin, banjo, bass, and songwriting for 20 years, both privately, in music stores, and through various schools and adult education. I also perform and record as a singer/songwriter, am working on my 5th CD, and lead music in churches.

My passion is teaching! I could search my whole life, and never find anything I enjoy doing more. You could call it my "calling," for lack of a better term. That's probably why I've been so successful in my career. I've taught students as young as 4 years old, and students who are in retirement.

My name is Felipe and I am a graduate of the University of North Texas where I studied Music Theory and am classically trained at the guitar. I am currently persuing my master's degree at Texas State University. I can play many instruments and love helping others learn how to play and have fun.

My introduction to music was when I got a drum set my sophomore year of high school. I taught myself to play by playing along with my favorite bands like Pearl Jam, the Smashing Pumpkins and the Beatles. I started teaching myself to play the guitar two years later during my senior year of high school. Soon after, I learned how to play electric bass, ukulele and mandolin.
