About Me

I am a classically trained singer living, working, and teaching in NYC. I have a degree in vocal performance from The University of Maryland at College Park. While in the D.C. Metro area I performed as a chorister and soloist at The National Shrine, Metropolitan A.M.E Church, and the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts. My exposure to a wide range of music, from baroque to contemporary gospel and musical theater, has strongly influenced my teaching. My goal is always to help a student develop their own understanding and experience of singing in a way that is fun, interactive, and personal while also progressively building a strong technique.

*** Lesson Details ***
My lessons are generally split between technical work/ warm-ups and repertoire. I like to adapt my concepts to a students individual personality and capability, in that sense I am flexible about the approach taken achieve optimal results. Every singer thinks and communicates differently and I see it as my job to figure out what will work best for you. I think that a foundation in a classical approach gives students the biggest tool kit with which to work. Once the fundamentals are firmly established, that singer then has the ability to approach any style of music in a way that is healthy and secure.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Programmable Digital Piano and Recording Equipment.

*** Specialties ***
The approach I take to the voice is based in the tradition of classical bel canto singing. It is always my goal to help students understand how to use their breath and body to produce sound that is free of tension and, therefore, beautiful.

About Me

Hello! Thank you for stumbling across my profile. I offer voice lessons in multiple genres to students of all ages! In addition to teaching privately, I have worked on developing curriculum for and teaching an after school music and theater class for under-served high school students in the Bronx. As an experienced nanny, I am very comfortable with and love working with young children!

As a soprano trained at the Manhattan School of Music and McGill University, I have had the great pleasure of working with leading teachers and directors in the opera world. I have performed in various venues on the east coast including NYC's Lincoln Center, and the Brevard Music Center in North Carolina.

Throughout my performance career, teaching has always brought me great joy! I look forward to meeting you and getting started!

Maybe you want to land the lead in your school musical, maybe you want to get accepted into your dream conservatory, or maybe you simply want to learn more about the art of singing!

With a strong background in opera, I will spend a lot of time teaching the importance of breath support and proper placement of the voice. Together, we will choose appropriate repertoire that will help you grow as a singer, and that you love! There is such a wealth of vocal music in this world, there is no reason to sing any piece that you don't absolutely love!

-sing "on the air" or "on the breath"
-sing a beautiful, connected legato line
-have clear, effective speech for speaking and singing
-practice!
-learn a piece of music

-walk into a room and present yourself for an audition or performance

You will also have learned how to:

-read music if you do not know already

About Me

I started my musical training as a pianist at YAMAHA institute at age 4 in Japan. I was selected to enter perfect pitch class. It was designated for students who have perfect pitch and potentials to be professional musicians.

I enjoyed playing piano and electric piano and won the 1st prize at Kitakantou Electric Piano Competition hosted by YAMAHA institute. Because of the intensive training, I have been accompanying my students' recitals and performance exams.

As much as I enjoyed playing piano, I discovered that I also love singing, so I started to take singing lessons and majored in vocal performance during my college days.

Since I have graduated, I have been performing opera professionally. My career highlights include roles as Pamina (Die Zauberflote) with Opera Manhattan Studio, Frasquita (Carmen) with One World Symphony, Zerlina (Don Giovanni) and Clorinda (La Cenerentola) with Capitol Heights Opera, Alice (Le comte Ory) with West Side Opera Society, Adele (Die Fledermaus), Susanna (Le Nozze di Figaro), and Myrrhine (Lysistrata) with Opera Avanti, Gilda (Rigoletto) with Academie Internationale d'Ete de Nice, and The First Spirit (Die Zauberflote) with the Opera Company of Brooklyn.

My international credits include studies at the Academy Internationale d'Ete de Nice, France; the Daniel Ferro Vocal Program in Chianti, Italy; the International Vocal Arts Institute in Tel Aviv, Israel; and an appearance at the Young Artist Concert Series in Tokyo, Japan.

As a versatile singer, I was presented as an aspiring opera singer on the website of Maybelline New York. My voice was featured in short films for NEC, the Japanese technology company.

I was also selected as a finalist at the Opera Idol Competition at Lincoln Center, the Hariclea Darclee Voice Competition in Romania, and the Mario Lanza and Elaine Malbin Vocal Competition. In the summer 2014, I received a scholarship to perform at The Savannah Voice Festival that is founded by Metropolitan Opera/Grammy Award Winner Opera Star Mr. Sherrill Milnes

Besides being an opera singer, I have been teaching piano and voice for 10 years. I have been fortunate to study with the world renowned teacher Mr.Gerald Martin Moore and would like to share my skills and experience with you. Since I perform often, I can coach you how to perform on stage in addition to building solid technique and languages. Also, I have taught various kinds of music, such as Rock, Broadway musicals, Pop music, so we can work on all kind of music.

I look forward to teaching you soon!

*** Lesson Details ***
My students can expect to improve their skills and start to enjoy music more as we work together.
I believe that learning music is fun and enjoyable. However you also need to be serious and focused.
I can demonstrate various and specific techniques, phrasing, and interpretation and will always coach on how to develop your skills. However, I feel it is important for students to think critically on their own and take the first try at solving a problem themselves. I cannot emphasize enough that primarily it is you who find the ways to improve. Leaning music is a collaboration between teachers and students. I hope that through my lessons, students will become more self-sufficient and confident as musicians.
Let me help you become a better musician.

I hold a Master of Music in Vocal Performance from the University of Miami's Frost School of Music and a Bachelor of Music in Vocal Performance from the University of North Florida.

I strive to create a lesson environment that is open and honest, where my students are never afraid to ask questions or try something new. I am always happy to explain concepts in a different way and I encourage improvisation and creativity in addition to healthy technique and strong musicianship.

In-home lesson equipment requirements:

Piano: Piano (preferred) or full, 88-key, weighted keyboard with bench; desk or table nearby for written assignments and assessments.

Note:Students are expected to purchase all music, curriculum, and other materials as appropriate. In many cases I can obtain the necessary materials prior to the first lesson and the student/parent can reimburse me at the lesson.

About my specialties:
While my specialty as a performer is opera and other classical music, I am also experienced in teaching Broadway/musical theater, pop, R&B, folk, and other styles and genres. I encourage my students to explore new styles and apply good technique to any style they may choose to sing or play.

I specialize in helping prepare singers for auditions for college, performing arts schools, choirs, musicals, and competitions. As an active performer myself I have auditioned many, MANY times for different organizations. I have also been on "the other side of the table" and I know what qualities audition panels are looking for. Several of my current and former students have been accepted to college music programs, performing arts magnet schools, audition-only choirs, and theater programs to continue their studies.
