Gio A. New York, NY

I took up clarinet several years ago and have done some writing and recording for clarinet. I'm happy to offer my skills and to work with novice players on proper fingering and technique, embouchure, music notation reading and theory, phrasing, and musicality.

About Gio

I studied music at UCF (Orlando), focusing on classical and jazz guitar, but I also have years of experience playing rock, blues, folk, hip-hop, and musical theater on both guitar and drums. I have been teaching guitar, drums, and piano for about eight years to students of all ages. Music is what I'm passionate about and it's what I enjoy. I want to inspire that same passion into the hearts and minds of others. *** Lesson Details *** I am a laid-back teacher, fun, and I focus on the needs, abilities, and ambitions of the student. In turn, students must realize that learning an instrument takes a lot of work and dedication. One can't expect to learn very much if s/he only practices or thinks about the instrument during the lesson. If the student is willing to put some time into ...

Great, creative teacher

Gio has a great way of thinking outside the box and teaching my daughter each week. He uses creative methods to engage her and help her relate to the material and provides easy instructions for practicing during the week. He is patient and easy going which allows for her not to feel overwhelmed as she's just learning the guitar. I'm very happy with how he's teaching her!

Attentive and great at teaching technique

Gio truly focuses on the student's needs. I've met too many self-absorbed musicians in the past, but Gio really pays attention to details in the student's playing. He is excellent at teaching technique and was the first guitar teacher to help me fix physical problems regarding posture and arm tension. His kind, easy-going manner makes a student comfortable. He has a wealth of musical knowledge to share.

Lessons are adjusted to the goals we set together with you. Its not about the amount of time you have to practice every day, its all about quality of the time spent practicing and of course continuity. Based on these two premises positive results can be almost guaranteed, no matter talent or age !

About Andres

Depending on the instrument and body built starting age may vary. For flute and clarinet around nine years old, both male and females. For saxophone, again based on body built, starting age would be around ten/eleven years old.

Debra K. Bronx, NY

For beginning students who are children, I like to start with either the Rubank Elementary Method or Hal Leonard's Essential Elements, as I find these provide a strong foundation in proper technique and sound, and reading music. As we move through this method, I will introduce exercises to help the student further develop a good sound on their instrument. At the same time, we will also begin to play solo and duet repertoire. I enjoy playing with students as a way to help them hear proper sound and technique and also develop listening and ensemble skills. For adults, I tailor the lessons to more specific styles of music they may be interested in learning, while also developing sound and technique according to their ability level. A specialty of mine on clarinet is klezmer, a beautiful genre of music that features that clarinet.

About Debra

I am a passionate musician and educator who is dedicated to helping students not only learn to play their instrument but to become a well-rounded musician. I love working with students of all ages and sharing my experience and love of classical, jazz and world music styles. I graduated from the Eastman School of Music with a Bachelor of Music degree in Saxophone Performance and Music Education, and went on to receive a Master of Music degree in Jazz Saxophone Performance from Manhattan School of Music. Performing all over the U.S. and abroad has been one of the highlights of my life as a musician. I lead my own jazz trio and quintet and perform as a featured saxophonist and clarinetist of several award-winning ensembles. I look forward to sharing my love of many styles of music with my ...

My daughter began learning sax in her school band, but she didn't begin PLAYING sax until she started lessons with Debra. From scales and exercises to actual pieces, Debra coached my daughter with real insight, sensitivity, and patience. Her knowledge of the instrument and feeling for music - along with her easy-going,"kid friendly" personality - make Debra the ideal teacher and musical mentor.

Hello, my name is Rodney James and I've been a student of Chase at the Juilliard Music Advancement Program for two years. During my time with Chase, I have improved tremendously on my improvisation, technique, and fundamentals on the saxophone. Chase is one of the most experienced and knowledgeable teachers I have ever studied under. The learning process with Chase is very easy and comprehensive because he breaks everything down to the bare roots. He treats all his students with respect and is a very supportive person in general. If you're looking to improve exceedingly on the saxophone, then you're at the right place.

Jackie B. Bronx, NY

I teach music lessons starting with and building upon basic techniques-including proper hand position, reading music, counting rhythms, maintaining a steady beat, and for wind instruments-proper breathing technique, embouchure, etc. I think it is important to establish these foundations and build upon them to keep music frustration-free and joyful. I enjoy playing along with and modeling the playing of my instrument so that students can hear and strive toward producing a good sound.
