I have tutored children for the SHSAT and SAT.
Two of my students have been accepted into Stuyvesant High School, one has entered Bronx Science and three others have been accepted at Brooklyn Technical High School.
I open students minds to advanced logical processing and am efficient at helping students process faster in an engaging manner. This has proven to be both academically as well as practically beneficial to my students. Often times, I tutor children in a manner that dramatically improves their GPA and gives them the tools, work ethic and processing capabilities to maintain a 95+ GPA.
One of my students came to me with a 77 GPA. After tutoring the child for 7 months, his GPA had increased to a 98 in the second marking period of his first semester of high school. I taught him to process faster, work with discipline so as to focus better, and be determined on top of course materials. I tutor people to be more efficient academically and practically so that the result is a better person with greater capabilities. This helps people be more self sufficient and reach their full potential.

Hi! My name is Ian S. I have several years' experience as a tutor and one year of teaching experience in Title I schools at the 8th and 9th grade level. Currently I am transitioning from the Midwest to New York City and am tutoring to pay the rent while I search for a permanent teaching job.
I have a B.A. in Biology from Earlham College. My focus at Earlham was in ecology, evolution, and environmental science, but I took significant coursework in microbiology, climate science, and U.S. History as well. During my undergraduate education I was published in the Cornell Lab of Ornithology's Neotropical Birds Encyclopedia. I studied abroad in Ecuador and the Galapagos Islands. I passed my comprehensive exams with Honors.
I am finishing up my M.A.T. (Master of Arts in Teaching) degree also at Earlham College.
My tutoring style:
I believe that everyone has the ability to achieve greatness and that change comes from within. Seeking tutoring is excellent and displays that you, the tutee, care about your future and your education. I treat all of my tutees with respect and care, keeping in mind the fact that we learn from everyone in our lives, including our students. I'm excited to work with people from many different backgrounds that are taking their education seriously. All that I ask is that tutees come to lessons prepared with questions and topics that they are having problems with.
My rates are negotiable and my hours are flexible.
Until July 11th, I will be unavailable for in-person tutoring, but I am available online.

I have taught chemistry for years, and I know that many students find it challenging. The math is weird, there are lots of details, and it seems to many that their teacher doesn't actually "teach" them anything. Take a deep breath. It doesn't have to be so hard. I can help you navigate the difficult territory of quantum numbers. I can make intermolecular forces make sense. I can simplify stoichiometry so you can determine the limiting reactant. I know chem-is-trying, but I can help you succeed.
"Steven is very professional and extremely helpful. He always has a smile on and is serious about helping you phrase the music. I would highly recommend him to anyone."
"It's been really exciting so far! Jordan has been so helpful, so knowledgeable. I could not have found a better instructor and I'm getting better and better every day."
"My daughter's wedding was weeks away and I had never been able to dance a step. With Jenny's help, I came further than ever before in such short time in any subject."
