I started with piano at the age of six and studied into college as a music major. After my first year, I decided not to become a classical pianist, and switched my major to Journalism and Communications with a minor in music. Life took its course with marriage and children and in 2002, I re-visited my music background and began to write songs both on piano and guitar. Since then I have recorded 3 albums, having worked with some of the best of Seattle's musicians and I can help you get started at the very basic level and develop your talent! Much of my work and performances are dedicated to "Destiny House", a project I and my husband spearheaded for the restoration and healing of survivors of human trafficking. I'm a professional composer, teacher, and pianist - and I like to keep active doing all three throughout my community. My piano and composition lessons are very in-depth, but also very flexible. Because of my thorough knowledge and experience with music, I can teach all ages, skill levels, and an array of important subjects - including piano, ear-training, music theory, improvisation, composition, creativity, music history, ethnomusicology, and percussion. Greetings! My name is Ken and I am a piano and voice teacher teaching from my studio in the Beacon Hill neighborhood of Seattle. I graduated with a Bachelors of Arts in Music from Western Washington University in Bellingham with an emphasis in voice. As a freelance vocalist, I perform many different styles from opera, musical theater/Broadway, sacred songs and hymns, as well as old-school ballads. I have sung all over the Pacific Northwest (WA, ID, OR) with many different groups and organizations, including the Bellevue Opera, Puget Sound Opera, Fat Chance! Opera Company, Seattle Glee Clubs, in numerous community events, fundraisers, and churches. I was also a first-place winner in the Performing Arts Festival Eastside in the vocal/opera division. I've been playing and teaching music for the majority of my life, and I love it :) In fact, I cannot imagine what life would be like without music.

I received my first instrument (a guitar) as a Christmas present when I was only nine years old. My life was forever changed that day, and I can still remember the first couple of guitar lessons that my dad gave me over the weeks that followed.

After thousands of hours of playing instruments, years of private lessons, and a professional music education from Pacific Lutheran University, I found that sharing the gift of music with others was my greatest talent.

I spend most of my days composing, recording, producing and teaching music (in the greater Seattle area), with much of the work performed in my Tacoma-area studio.

Pianist, Rian D., holds a Bachelor of Music degree in piano performance from Washington State University where he graduated at the top of his class. During his time at WSU he was a recipient of the prestigious Presser Scholarship, which is awarded to college students based on academic merit and performance experience. He also placed in numerous local and regional piano and chamber music competitions, including finishing as a finalist in the Washington-Idaho Symphony Young Artist Competition and performing as a soloist with the orchestra.

He currently performs as an accompanist and teaches piano in the Seattle area privately and at a local music and dance academy. As a member of the Seattle Music Teachers Association he stays in touch with and is active in Seattle's vibrant music community.

With over 25 years experience teaching voice, including at the college level, I bring a wealth of experience to my students. I earned my Bachelor and Master of Music degrees in vocal performance, studied at the Tanglewood Institute, as well as with many other professional singers and acclaimed teachers. I have sung professionally with opera companies, symphonies and other presenting organizations. My students will learn vocal techniques that work and that will allow them to be the artists they want to be! I create a safe, supportive, and fun atmosphere for my students. I play piano, guitar, bass, and the touch guitar. A guitar with the octave range of a piano, by which the performer plays bass and guitar simultaneously by touching (or tapping) the strings. I've been playing touch-style for 20 years and I teach master classes on the technique. I also teach music theory, harmony/arranging, and musicianship/performance classes.

In addition to being a graduate of the Hartford Conservatory of Music [Hartford, Connecticut], I also studied at the University of Limerick, Ireland, and the University of the Arts [Philadelphia, Pennsylvania]. I have performed solo tours in the United States, Ireland, Belgium, and Holland. I've also performed with Ray Brown (jazz bassist), Glenn Branca (avant-garde composer), and many other talented musicians.

One unique thing about me is that I've have experience in MANY different musical situations ranging from performance and education to arranging, band leading, touring, recording, and writing. I began as a punk rocker as so many people my age did. Learning the songs of the bands I listened to. As I got older and more proficient at my instrument, I began playing for the high school jazz bands and choirs in the area I grew up, beautiful Bremerton WA. When I was 16 I began my formal training at Olympic College where I played bass in several of the school ensembles as well as studied Theory, ear training, and history courses. At 18 I graduated with an AAS degree, took a year off to tour with a vocal jazz group called Jazz line, then applied to Cornish College of the Arts the following year.
