Samantha D. Allentown, PA

Subjects Taught

Cello, Clarinet, Flute, Guitar, Music Performance, Music Theory, Oboe, Piano, Saxophone, Trumpet, Violin

About Me

Samantha started taking piano lessons at age 3 from her mother, who was also a music teacher. She played piano continuously through school, and also learned to play clarinet, guitar, flute, trumpet and sax, often playing different instruments in her school's band. She also learned the violin and cello all before graduating high school and starting college. While still in HIgh School, she started teaching young beginners in her mothers studio.

She attended Pensacola Christian College in Florida, majoring in Piano Performance, under the watchful eye of Mr. Daniel Nagy from Brazil. She transferred to Clearwater Christian College, Tampa, FL, her Junior year to study with Dr. Craig Ralston, graduating with a Bachelor of Science in Music.

After graduation she took a position at Seffner Christian Academy, near Tampa. There she taught Beginning and Intermediate Band and assisted the Advanced Band class.

From there, she returned home to Delaware to teach at Milford Music Center's music school, owned by her mother. This was also the same school where she learned to play most of her instruments and where she taught throughout High School.

Now in Allentown, Pennsylvania, she is passing on her love of music to her students.

*** Lesson Details ***
Samantha believes in teaching the fundamentals of music first, which will make the following lessons easy and fun for the student. She has used a variety of methods on different students and will use whichever method will be best understood by each individual student. She enjoys getting to know the strengths and weaknesses of each student and building on the foundation teacher and student have built together. As a team, teacher and student will put together short and long- term goals and work towards each goal with every lesson. Samantha asks each of her students to commit to practicing and to give their best effort at each lesson. If the student can make that commitment, goals will be reached quickly and easily.

The student will also see marked improvements in their school work, attention span, and overall well - being.

Students learn music theory, basic improvisation, harmony, music analysis, technique and interpretation.

Mike's approach is to use the student's own musical tastes to develop an appreciation for the instrument. If you like rock, you learn by playing rock. If you like jazz, you learn by playing jazz. Mike's approach makes it painless to learn to read, train your ear and develop monster chops quickly.

Mark P. Northampton, PA

Subjects Taught

Music Performance, Music Theory, Songwriting, Violin

About Me

Hello all, my name is Mark P.

I have been playing Violin for 13yrs, studying with teachers
from many prestigious schools:  Mannes,
Juilliard, Curtis, St. Petersburg and Moscow Conservatory.  In high school, I participated in all of the
PMEA string festivals, making it all the way to All-Easterns Honors Ensemble.  I performed with the Philadelphia Youth
Orchestra from 2004-2007.

I went to Mannes the NewSchool for Music for a year and a
half, studying with Ann Setzer.  Though I
did not find my passion in the Classic Conservatory, I transferred to Mansfield
University and made friends that have the same modern ambitions.  In Mansfield University, I still went through
a classical regime, but also studied jazz and contemporary with friends and on
my own.  Through this experience, I became
fantasized with the Ipad as a musical instrument.  The Ipad made it very simple to learn theory
and to experiment with many sounds, which has helped me with all my
song-writing.

*** Lesson Details ***
From my experience with teaching students before and during
college, I enjoy seeing my student smiling and laughing.  It brings the warmest feelings to see any
student of mine enjoy playing music.  The
catch is once I notice my student not practicing within several lessons, even
through several approaches, then I discuss what is it that my student wants to
gain with her/his musical career/hobby.
I believe every student has the drive to learn and do great things; it
is the student’s ambition and motivation to drive her/himself to be as
successful as she/he can be.

With my approach as a violinist, I center my attention
towards the bow (whether you are a righty or lefty) because it is the most
vital part of learning violin or any bowed instrument than that of any other
stringed instrument.

*** Travel Equipment ***
Student should have a violin. If not, I know reputable makers in Philadelphia and NYC.
I also provide in lessons IPADS for theory purposes and songwriting; if the student has one, that is a big bonus.

*** Specialties ***
All genres and methods vary depending on the student.
