Welcome to my studio! Here is a recent blurb about me:
Marci began her classical piano studies at 8 years old, in the private studio of concert pianist Elaine de San Miguel. In addition to recitals, concerts, camps and master classes, Marci branched out into performing in a variety of venues, as an accompanist for vocalists, instrumentalists, choirs and musicals. When she wasn't playing the piano for people, she was taking voice lessons, singing in both traditional & show choirs, and performing in musical theater. Her favorite TV show is currently "Phineas & Ferb"! (Great music on that show, if you hadn't noticed!)
Marci holds a teaching license in the state of Kansas, and is classified as "highly qualified" according to the No Child Left Behind Law. She is currently working on finishing a PhD in developmental and behavioral psychology, and for 5 years taught Child Behavior & Development classes at the University of Kansas in Lawrence. Because of her education and experience teaching in public schools, she is unique in that she has an understanding of children and young adults and how they learn. She encourages her students to work towards their goals, but is patient and knows when a skill is currently beyond the child's grasp due to his or her individual development. Every child learns and develops differently, so each person's lessons are highly individualized.

David picked up the guitar when he moved from his hometown of Phoenix, Arizona in 2001 at the age of 19 and hasn’t looked back since. 7 years and countless hours of practicing, performing and teaching later, David plays at multiple venues in the Kansas City area while teaching from his studio at Guitar Source in Overland Park,, Southland Conservatory in Raymore, and in home tutoring service Mobile Music Teachers. David also teaches and records from his home studio in Raytown, MO where he offers lessons for home schoolers during the daytime hours.
As a guitarist David is motivated primarily by his passion for music. Growing up he was influenced by classical, jazz, and film scores. Since picking up the guitar he has been inspired by guitarists from such diverse backgrounds as Eric Johnson, Robben Ford, Pat Martino, Pat Metheny, Martin Taylor, and James Taylor, to name a few. Today David plays and teaches a variety of different styles, ranging from rock and blues to classical and jazz.
David started to play the piano after years of playing the guitar. Although a second instrument, it in many ways it was the first as everything David has aspired to on the guitar is pianistic, and he draws much of his inspiration on the instrument from piano players. Correspondingly, it wasn’t long before David picked up the piano itself, studying privately first with Tatev Amir and later with Karen, Kushner, Professor of Piano Studies at UMKC. David applies many of the same principles to the piano that he does the guitar including stressing a comprehensive knowledge of music theory, self transcription, ear training and classical technique as well as the more traditional facets of piano pedagogy such as sight reading and rhythm work. Students learn music theory as applied to the keyboard, sight-reading, improvisation and the application of classical technique to modern styles.
As a pianist David is motivated primarily by his passion for music. Growing up he was influenced by classical, jazz, and film scores. Piano, Music Theory, Songwriting
At age four I sat at a piano and figured out "Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star" by ear, having never seen the music before. My mom and dad clapped for me, but I turned to them with a sorrowful face, and said, "But I do not know 'Ode to Joy' yet."
Since then, my musical growth has spanned many styles—classical, musical theatre, rock—and many applications—piano, voice, composition, and conducting. At the center of it all, though, is outstanding musicianship and a love of facing new challenges. I believe a great ear and a great mind are the foundation on which we all make great music!
I earned my undergraduate degree in music at Yale (intensive, with honors), and went on to study composition and choral conducting at the University of Texas at Austin. I'm excited to share my approach to music with you. Whatever you want to learn, I'll help you approach it with a pinpoint ear, a blazing mind, and, of course, all of your heart.
