Regular lessons are half an hour long. An hour per week is usually required for the student that is studying for competitions or performance. Day times and evenings are available.

Our instruction area is spot on. The bright and large studio provides an exceptional learning environment and contains amplifiers, acoustic, electric and bass guitars. We have the latest technology in keyboards, and the use of drum machines makes the lesson more fun utilizing the feel of being in a band. We are conveniently located just off Hampden Ave. and Tower Rd.

The basics: music theory, music reading, chords, chord progressions, melody, harmony, technique etc...

This is my grandson's first 3 months with Kevin.Kevin is very laid-back and his cool looks makes my pre-teen grandson want to learn from him, which is important. Sometimes, Kevin's critique is unclear and his verbal follow up instructions don't match his written instructions. All and all, he might be prefect for my grandson, who is also very laid-back. Two laid-back peolple might not be a good combination. It could be that my grandson would learn more from someone who is a little more structured. I thought about trying a different teacher but my grandson seems to like Kevin and he is learning to play, which is the bottom line. So, we will stick with Kevin for now.

Excellent!!!

Kevin is an amazing instructor and is very patient with the students. I have only taken a couple lessons so far but I have learned so much within that time it shocks me that I could even learn that much. Before I started taking lessons with him I would try and pluck away at the strings of the guitar but I'm gradually getting better thanks to him. Thank you!
Evan K. Arvada, CO

About Evan

I have been playing lead guitar since 2004 (bass guitar and drums since 2006) and have invested my life into the creative process. Over the said amount of time, I have been applying my technique to genres such as heavy metal, jazz, blues, funk, classical, and anything in between. I have written over 30 original works which include guitar, bass, drum, and vocal scores. Once the work is completed, I would proceed to creatively construct in a one-on-one or group scenario. I have also been student teacher and guitarist for the Standley Lake High School jazz band. The jazz band at Standley Lake regularly played clinics in which professional jazz musician's would critique the group on a particular set. This would include breaking it down to the single musician's parts and pin pointing ...

I've been teaching bass for 10 years. I let the student chose whether they'd like to focus on pick, finger, or both use. Chart playing, and arpeggios are key to my curriculum.

About Greg

Hey everyone, my name is Greg. Some of you may know me as the lead guitar player from the metal band Allegaeon. What most of your don't know is I love teaching!! Here's a little bit more about myself:

I have a passion for a wide range of music including fingerstyle acoustic, classical, jazz, heavy metal and funk. I'm currently in the internationally known metal band Allegaeon, on Metal Blade records. Excellent Teaching and Super Nice!

Greg is a fantastic music teacher! His skills on a myriad of instruments are quite impressive, and its very easy to see his passionate love of music. Learning from Greg is fluid and fun, as long as you are willing to push yourself (there is no Mary Had a Little Lamb here). Its wonderful that he helps you learn what you want to learn, and doesn't constrain you with a strict curriculum. I would recommend Greg to anyone who is looking for an effective and fun atmosphere.

Great teaching approach

My goal was to be able to play songs around a campfire and TJ has been fantastic at tailoring our lessons to this goal. Every week I learn something a little new, but I also learn a song that is simple enough for me to play and which incorporates whatever new chord or technique he's introduced. I much prefer practicing actual songs vs. excercises and he always leaves me with a new song to play. He is also instantly likeable and lessons feel more like hanging out with a friend than a teacher. I would highly recommend him as a guitar teacher.

Fun and inspiring teacher!

If you are looking for a fun, optimistic, and talented teacher TJ is your guy. Every time we get together to make music TJ is full of life and always has a smile on his face. His knowledge about music theory and history is amazing and he can back up that knowledge when he picks up any instrument whether it be guitar, piano, bass, or even mandolin. The great thing about TJ is he inspires you to want to get better at whatever it is you want to get better at. He is patient and understands everyone learns in different ways and at different paces. He can get along with anyone of any age. I highly recommend TJ as your teacher no matter what level you are at.

Fun, ridiculously talented teacher

I've been dabbling with acoustic guitar and was on my church's worship rotation for a few years, and I inherited my Dad's electric guitar and amp a few years ago, but you'd think after 20 years I'd be much better at it. After that long with no formal instruction, and now that I'm a family man having virtually no opportunity to jam with friends, it's difficult to get better. So my wife surprised me with TakeLessons, my first true opportunity to have regular guided instruction on the guitar, and I love it!! Having lessons in the comfort and convenience of my home over Skype is the only way this father of 4 could have this amazing opportunity, and it works incredibly well.

I believe the main reason TakeLessons via Skype works so well for me is because of TJ. He's been my instructor for several months now. He always makes it fun and challenging and balances his lesson plan with asking me what songs I'm personally interested in learning to play. He's crazy good on the guitar...I want to play like him when I grow up ;)

Out in my rural home, my internet isn't always reliable, but TJ is always super patient about it and has on many occasions allowed the lesson to go a few minutes over to make up for the technical difficulties (thankfully, the problem seems to be fixed now and we've been able to keep on schedule). And with my hectic schedule and 4 kids, I don't always get the fun and luxury of investing time practicing guitar, but TJ is always encouraging and supportive.

I honestly feel like TJ's my friend. We get along great! Even though we listen to different artists, we share that passion for music that moves you. I travel to Denver once or twice a year for my job and we've already agreed to meet up whenever I'm there, maybe even go skiing together.

Keep up the fantastic work, TJ! You inspire me every week and I'm stoked to have you as a new friend!!

Bass lessons consist of proper technique, classic rock bass lines, and sight reading.

About Steve

When I was growing up I thought music was like magic and that only special people with super-human powers could play. I would think to myself, "How are they doing that? I would never be able to play music in a million years!" It wasn't until I was 14 I discovered guitar magazines and a method of reading called guitar tablature that I realized anybody can learn guitar! With determination, patience, and practice I learned as many songs and techniques from my heroes (The Beatles, Jimi Hendrix, Led Zeppelin) as I could. I realized there is so much to learn about music that I could learn something new everyday. This still holds true to this day. I keep digging to find that magic place to which music can take you. It is my goal as a musician and a teacher to help other aspiring ...

Steve has been great so far. His skills are up-to-snuff and his manner is perfect for a young child with a wild imagination. But more importantly, Steve communicates very well and is on time. This may seem like small stuff but it's uncommon in the private music instruction realm.

Joshua has been a great instructor for my daughters 15 and 13 yrs. old. At this age it can be tricky to build trust and feel comfortable with an instructor. They have been playing and singing since January and I love hearing them laugh together and am enjoying seeing the progress. I feel very fortunate to have found an enthusiastic instructor for my girls. And the greatest thing is that they are practicing together! Love it!
