Singing Lessons in Atlanta

By Jeremi C. - Atlanta Singing Teacher

I'm originally from the world famous city of New Orleans, where I was born, raised and educated. I enjoyed a quite fulfilling career in music and music education until 2005 when the wind made me chase my kite all the way to Atlanta. As a passionate musician, I was determined to continue to enjoy my musical success in my new home. Making Atlanta my home was quite an adjustment. New Orleans in all about accessibility and everyone has access. Atlanta is more about networking and due diligence. It's fairly common to hear people speak of their favorite places to patronize being spread out across the metropolitan area. Atlanta is a place of options and people don't generally have to settle for less than what they want as long as they are willing to commute. With a network of communities all expecting to have options, most industries in Atlanta are vulnerable to competition.

Atlanta is truly a capital in its own right. It is home to the headquarters of such Fortune 500 companies as AT&T, Delta Airlines, Coca Cola and Turner Broadcasting. Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport has been noted as the busiest airport in the world for some time now. Atlanta, including the metropolitan area is home to 5.5 million + people. That’s a lot of churches, eateries and schools. Because Atlanta has boomed into a corporate capital of sorts, it has become most popularly perceived as a land of opportunity. The number of people present, plus the opportunity to gain affluence has rendered Atlanta a prime location to pursue investments for start up companies and to advertise to the millions of eager citizens as well as all the viewers in TV land following the growing number of Atlanta based TV shows. Atlanta is a hot ticket!

What does any of this have to do with music? Everything! What do companies use to advertise? Music! What do people use to make their commute more enjoyable? Music! What do the churches, eateries and schools use to facilitate a quality experience and connect with people? Music! Because music is such an integral part of the cohesiveness of a community, Atlanta is home to many festivals, conferences, and popular artist concerts. As a result of the number of people, major corporations, and supplementary businesses in Atlanta, people need to play as hard as they work. When people clock out on Friday with thoughts of how to have a really rockin' weekend, street teams have already been deployed to raise awareness of various events, promotional opportunities, and grand openings happening across the metropolitan area. As the people pour out of the schools and offices, happy hour becomes the only salvation for anyone dreading the rush hour traffic that everyone will tell you is the pits! As a business, how do you get people to choose your happy hour over another? You entertain them! How do you get them to stay even after the traffic dies down? You keep entertaining them. Music is the undercurrent of Atlanta's sanity.

Throughout the boom Atlanta has enjoyed since the 70's, many great music artists and venues have become synonymous to the appeal of this city. If you take singing lessons in Atlanta then you will be following in some very famous footsteps, as Atlanta has been home to many popular artists such as John Mayer, Van Hunt, Justin Bieber, Sevendust, Cee-lo Green, Janelle Monet, Julie Dexter, Anthony David, India Arie and Water Seed. Some of these artists may still be known to make cameos at such pinnacle venues as Eddies Attic, Centerstage, Apache Cafe, The Roxie, The Fox Theater, Churchill Grounds, Smith's Old Bar, The Tabernacle, The Masquarade and The Five Spot. Atlanta has also been home to top producers such as Jermaine Dupri, Kenneth “Babyface” Edmonds and The Dream.

I can truly say so much more about the city of Atlanta, but I will leave you with this. Atlanta is a wide open market for many unique brands of music, so beware the pitfalls of comparing yourself to other musicians. In a metropolitan area of 5.5 million + people, surely there's a following for whatever shape your music takes. Keep at it! Don’t just take singing lessons in Atlanta, get out and network with other musicians too. I came here empty handed in pajamas one night in 2005 and these are the insights that have elevated me to the success I now enjoy in Atlanta. Music makes it possible!
