I have studied, performed and taught music for over 30 years. Accordion was my first instrument at age 7 followed by drums and guitar. I studied with great teachers in the past as well as at the Berklee College of Music in Boston. I have also performed at the Cape Cod Jazz Festival, The Bakersfield Jazz Festival and numerous club dates and private functions throughout New York, New England and California.

Students will experience an "original" lesson based on how they learn. Some students benefit most from a visual standpoint reading music or tab while others learn best by an auditory or hearing approach. We will explore what works best for you. Whether its blues, rock jazz or other styles, we will find the best avenue to progress toward your goals. At the same time I believe it should always be a fun thing to do!
*** Studio Equipment ***
Guitars - Drums - Amplifiers - Accordion - Ukes and other assorted instruments
*** Specialties ***
Depending on student interest, I teach numerous styles (Rock, Blues Jazz improvisation) by reading music or by ear. Some students are more visual while others are auditory learners. Whichever is best for the student.
Bass Guitar, Drum, Guitar
Learning an instrument in a music recording studio environment has many advantages and is a lot more fun, creative and rewarding. From your teacher jumping on different instruments
for you to develop your independence and timing as a player and
recording prepared projects you've been working on,
to playing at a higher volume to get to know your gear's real sound, the rocking' memories you'll walk away with will fuel your inspiration to practice and improve fast. My focus is to help you achieve your goals on the guitar.
With each individual student, I offer exercises, songs and techniques to practice that will help you to immediately begin seeing positive results. I believe that anyone can play an instrument and sing and take their next step in music. It makes a big difference if you have the right teacher to help you learn the music you love. Most people that have attained musical proficiency had someone that took the time to guide them along their way. Much of what is thought of as difficult to play or understand in music is only mysterious until it is explained and practiced.
Jan has been teaching professionally since 2001. He graduated with honors from Musicians Institute in Hollywood after earning a Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering and IT in Germany. He has been playing music for over 23 years, in bands ever since age 16 as a lead guitarist, keyboard player, bass player and singer. In his newest band he is on drums and vocals. He built a music recording studio in the city in 2004 at which he teaches and has engineered and mixed many bands since. He currently also teaches guitar at Brightstar Middle School Charter Academy in Los Angeles, fronts the band Audiocination, plays lead guitar in Clark 8 and drums with OG Booker T.

My primary style is rock, although I do enjoy playing and teaching Pop, R&B, Gospel, Progressive Metal, and Fusion. I'm looking forward to teaching you how to be a better drummer and musician.
Alphonse musical associations read like a veritable Who's Who of Modern Jazz and Pop Music. His talents cover a broad range of musical disciplines and philosophies. He was the rhythmic foundation for the far reaching musical explorations of pianist McCoy Tyner. He was a charter member along with keyboardist Joe Zawinul and saxophonist Wayne Shorter, of the group Weather Report. Along with guitarist Larry Coryell, Alphonse was co-founder of The Eleventh House, the seminal fusion band of the seventies. Alphonse and Coryell still tour together in a trio and with the Eleventh House.
Alphonse has also played and/or recorded with Gil Evans, Roy Ayers, George Benson, Herbie Hancock, Dizzy Gillespie, Stanley Clarke, Al DiMeola, Les McCann, Ronnie Laws, Klaus Doldinger's Passport, Jaco Pastorius, Ron Carter, Nathan East, Cecil McBee, Albert Mangelsdorff, Joachim Kuhn, Jasper van't Hof, Michel Legrand, Stanley Turrentine, Freddie Hubbard, Hubert Laws, Donald Bird, Chet Baker, Randy Brecker, Michael Brecker, Ernie Watts, Sonny Rollins, Wallace Roney, Arturo Sandoval, Christian McBride, Kenny Barron, Cedar Walton, George Coleman, John Klemmer, Billy Harper, Dave Grusin, Russ Freeman, George Howard, Kirk Whalum, Jeff Lorber, Kenny G., Joanne Brackeen, Horace Parlan, Robin Kenyatta, Ross Carnegie Orchestra, ex-grilfriend Roberta Flack, Sheila E., Celia Cruz, Gloria Lynn, Gloria Coleman, Denise Williams, Freda Payne, Shirley Scott, Anita O'Day, Betty Davis, and in 1991, he performed with Miles Davis on the movie soundtrack album entitled "Dingo". Alphonse has also played with and helped the early careers of Lee Ritenour, David Beniot, Gerald Albright, Sam Riney, Brandon Fields, Greg Karukas, Dave Koz, and Richard Elliot.
