I picked up my first guitar about 10 years ago and have been studying and playing ever since. Having a strong interest in composing and writing original music I gigged regularly (3-4 shows a month) performing original material in a rock band in the East Bay until I moved to Boston to study at Berklee College of Music. At Berklee I received rigorous training in traditional and Jazz music theory, Music technology, and guitar performance. Currently residing in the East Bay, I continue to compose, perform, and teach guitar lessons to all ages.

I have been a musician for over 20 years. I have a BA in Music & Sound Recording, and am equally comfortable in the studio as I am on the stage. I currently lead my own band which plays all original music and I have released two CDs of my own music, in addition to playing and recording with many local acts. I also write, record and produce music for TV and movies. Let's just say I wear a lot of hats.

I love music, and surround myself with it at all times. There are very few styles that I don't like or don't listen to, and I try to stay current as much as I can. I play a number of different instruments besides the ones I teach, including harmonica, piano, organ, drums and percussion. I also have been singing for as long as I can remember.

Travis grew up in a musical family in Santa Cruz, CA. His father was a professional guitarist and his Grandfather was the head of the music program at Cabrillo College in Aptos, so naturally he grew up with an instrument in his hand. After years of toying with the guitar Travis began formal lesson at the age of 9, quickly developing into an exceptional musician. By the age of 13 Travis was in several rock bands and performing frequently. Once in high school, Travis had no doubt that being a professional musician was what we wanted to do with his life so he started studying jazz and classical piano at a college level, studying with jazz trumpeter/arranger Ray Brown and classically trained pianist Ivan Rosenblum. Travis excelled and quickly began playing in the top Jazz Combo at Cabrillo College and in the top Big Band as well as playing professionally. I have been playing the guitar for 30 years, and to date have recorded and produced 8 cds of my original instrumental music. I have performed in numerous bands over the years, currently I lead a jazz/rock instrumental trio, and play in a Spanish pop/rock/folk band. I also have over 20 years of experience recording and producing music, and am passionate about recording and audio technology.

I have been a professional performing musician and teacher for going on a decade. I've studied jazz guitar and film scoring at Berklee as well as bass and composition at Lewis and Clark. I've toured across the country several times over, playing everything from jazz to funk, metal to pop. More importantly, I've been teaching privately since high school when I'd bike to students houses around my neighborhood. Since then I've taught at the local branches of School of Rock in Portland, OR, Boston, and New York, teaching privately, coaching ensembles, directing student concerts, and teaching theory workshops. I also have been working to integrate cutting edge digital technology into my teaching practices should students wish to explore contemporary practices. Music has long been my life's love, and my highest hopes lie in in sharing its rewards.

I have spent the last four year writing, producing and licensing music in New York City, and have written modern and classical music on piano and for various ensembles. My work can be heard on HBO, Showtime and in various films.

I began playing guitar by ear around age ten. I learned rock songs from records for a few years, and then I began a more serious study of theory in high school. Over the next several years I alternated between pursuing my music degree and playing in bands all over the midwest. In 2004, I transferred from Indiana University to Sonoma State to focus completely on jazz and finish my degree. I have worked with groups and privately, with all ages and skill levels. I am very flexible with the direction of your study and will help you with whatever aspects of your playing you would like to develop.

Calen is a life-long musician who loves to teach and also perform his own music as a singer-songwriter. After earning a music degree at Saint Michael's College in Vermont, he moved out to San Francisco to work with inner city kids through the Boys & Girls Club and pursue his interests in music. He has played electric guitar in a rock/pop band (The Astral Force) and acoustic guitar in a folk duo (Zej & Calen) that have each enjoyed success in the Bay Area.

He remains passionate about teaching and encouraging others to reach their goals. He has been teaching students of all ages for about 10 years and plans to continue as long as he can!

My Teaching:
I love to teach music to all ages, and have taught hundreds of students in the last 15 years. What you can expect from me is a clear, patient, and understanding teacher who is able to able to meet you where you are on your musical journey, and assist you to expand your knowledge and mastery of the instrument, usually having a lot of fun along the way. I am very comfortable even with teens who know what they want to learn, as well as absolute beginners and kids who need %100 guidance in there practice. I really enjoy students who come to me with some experience and want to learn songs that they love. I enjoy teaching music theory as well as reading, but do not require it.

With over 13 years of experience in teaching, performing and recording music for the guitar, Max Rich has traveled through both the United States as well as Europe astonishing audiences with his concerts both as a soloist as well as a studio musician. After completing a Bachelor's degree in Music Performance at California State University Northridge, Max set his sights on a musical conquest of Europe. Well versed in styles ranging from blues, rock, pop, funk, classical, jazz and many more genres, he has established a reputation throughout as a powerful and creative musician. It all started with The Beatles, and a high school band which led the way to going to Berklee College of Music and receiving my Bachelor's Degree in Music there in 2006. Since then I have taught Rock guitar and music theory to children and adults while I was the Music Director at a community center in Boston. I'm currently serving as a MusicianCorps Fellow with the Music National Service. This keeps me very active as I spend 4 days a week teaching music to Middle and High School age students.

Rock is my main thing but also perform Soul, R&B and Bossa Nova. After many years of learning and performing songs, I have realized that learning a song is not enough. You have to give it enough practice and passion so that you can make it your own.
