I have been singing since the age of 9 when I joined Contra Costa Children's Choir and have studied classical voice for 13 years. It was around the same time I began singing that I began studying the piano and continued my studies for 7 years. I went on to receive my Bachelor's degree in Music at Mannes College of Music in New York City and finished my education at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music, where I received my Masters. I graduated from SFCM in 2009 and have been performing and teaching ever since. I have a BS in music education, I am a professional musician/ composer/ arranger.I received my teaching credentials at SFSU and have been a General music teacher as well as a, band teacher. I have studied trumpet with Classical and Jazz teachers and big band arranging with Frank Foster( saxophonist and arranger with Count Basie Band). At present I am retired and teaching privately.

I have been teaching music for over 30 years as well as being a professional musician. I enjoy teaching because it allows me pass on what my teachers taught me as well as what my experiences have been. I have found that teaching music builds confidence in students, not only in music but in other areas as well.

In every culture that we study, music is one way we learn a lot about how they lived. If we don’t pass this knowledge on we will be forgotten. Teaching to me is not only a pleasure but a duty I must perform for our survival.

I love to teach- over 14 years of teaching piano and voice students, I know that music is one of the most fulfilling and joyful activities human beings engage in. I have helped many students, of all ages and abilities, to experience greater satisfaction from their practice and/or performance, and to experience an excited intellectual curiosity to learn more.

I was originally a classical pianist, but in 1997 I began study of jazz arranging and piano. Following this, I spent 8 years as a touring musician in various bands, traveling mostly around the eastern half of the country. With the dream of writing orchestral music, I then returned to school at Jacobs School of Music (Indiana University) to study classical music composition. I got the opportunity to write for large ensembles there, and then became so interested in experimental music that I decided to come to Mills College, where I am currently teaching as a T.A. and continuing composition study.

I am a soprano with a degree in vocal performance and I am looking to build a fun and supportive studio in the Bay Area! A little bit about myself first: I have been singing since I was six years old. I joined choir first and then started taking private lessons when I was thirteen. I knew that I wanted to be a singer from the time I was a kid and never looked back! When I was twenty, I moved to Orange County to study classical vocal performance at the University of California at Irvine. I learned a deep appreciation for the music we studied and developed into an effective and artistic communicator through the art of vocal performance. I love teaching because I honestly believe there is no greater feeling in the world than giving a performance that truly moves your audience, and helping others in this process is always extremely rewarding. I began taking piano lessons with my grandmother at the age of 6 and hold a Bachelor's Degree in Piano and Music Education.
I have a classical background, but am interested in all kinds of music. By the same token, I like to encourage students to find educational value in a variety of music.

I am a classically trained pianist and trumpet player with a
bachelor's degree in music education. I have taught for over 20
years, to both adults and children, with a focus on classical basics
and music theory for beginners and stylistic development in various musical styles for intermediate and advanced students. I teach from a standard
method, but adapt my teaching style to the personality and learning
strengths of my students.

I have been a professional performing musician and teacher for going on a decade. I've studied jazz guitar and film scoring at Berklee as well as bass and composition at Lewis and Clark. I've toured across the country several times over, playing everything from jazz to funk, metal to pop. More importantly, I've been teaching privately since high school when I'd bike to students houses around my neighborhood. Since then I've taught at the local branches of School of Rock in Portland, OR, Boston, and New York, teaching privately, coaching ensembles, directing student concerts, and teaching theory workshops. I also have been working to integrate cutting edge digital technology into my teaching practices should students wish to explore contemporary practices. Music has long been my life's love, and my highest hopes lie in in sharing its rewards.

From the moment Kat was tall enough to reach the keys she made so much noise on her family’s piano that they eventually bought a kid-sized version to keep in her room. When Kat turned 7 her family got her the best present ever; lessons with an amazing piano teacher.

Kat also began to study flute several years later and soon realized that music was the life for her. She majored in music in both high school and college graduating with a BA in Music from St. Norbert College in DePere, Wisconsin.

Kat has had a very diverse career in music. From a full time private music teacher to the Musical Director of a Burning Man Opera, to the Section Leader for a Youth Orchestra, to the keyboard player in a Theatrical Heavy Metal Band, Kat is always thrilled to stretch her wings and try new things.

Devin is a composer/pianist and music instructor based out of San Francisco. He holds a Bachelors degree in Music Composition from the University of the Pacific and a Masters degree in Music Composition from the San Francisco Conservatory of Music, and has had works commissioned and performed internationally. He is also an active performer and songwriter, playing piano and guitar in a wide variety of musical ensembles, from jazz trios to indie rock bands.

Devin has over a decade experience in private music instruction in piano, guitar, and composition/theory/songwriting. He has established and maintained a well respected studio of students spanning all ages, musical background, and goals. He has a versatile musical background, and can accordingly offer lessons that are based on the individual students' goals. His genuine passion for the art of music ensures that his students get the most out of the experience.

Born in Los Angeles, California, Nancy C. grew up in the Bay Area in Northern California. She began her studies in piano at the young age of four. After a few years of college studying physics, she went into the corporate workfield. Deciding that her corporate career was unsatisfactory, she went back to college to study music. She studied with Ellen Wassermann at CSU Hayward focusing in piano performance where she received her Bachelor's in Music.

Nancy continued her education at CSU Hayward to obtain her master’s degree in 2005. Her focus changed from performance to music composition where she studied with Frank La Rocca. In addition to teaching private piano lessons, Nancy also teaches for the Oakland East Bay Symphony's MUSE program, which brings professional musicians to public schools without music and arts program.
