About Me

I have been involved in music for most of his life. I started playing piano at an early age and was involved with a church bell choir as well. During High School, I played in the Bishop Lynch High School marching band drumline as well as the school’s symphonic band. At the tender age of 16, I picked up the guitar, inspired by the Guitar Hero game, little did I know how difficult the real thing was! I persevered and discovered that music was my true passion and in 2009 was accepted into the University of North Texas’ prestigious music program. During this time, I played in the Trinity United Methodist’s worship team for a year and half, playing both lead and rhythm in the band. I graduated magna cum laude from UNT in Spring 2012 with a bachelors in music with a concentration in classical guitar. I have received guitar lessons personally for 5 years from northern Plano guitar teacher Earl Bailey and University of North Texas Doctorate students Mike Morey and Armin Abdihodzic. I enjoy composing music in my spare time in addition to working as a teacher and a freelance musician. I also play in the Dallas group known as Guitarchestra which plays classical music in a rock band setting.

*** Lesson Details ***
I have a generally set curriculum for the first few months and it gradually evolves to the student's wants, needs, and desires over the course of about six months. Much of this depends on a student's practicing, willingness to learn, and apt for the instrument. I will be teaching them to play chords, scales, a few basic songs, know the fret board, and some minor improvisation to their favorite tunes. Every student starts off from the same place but once the first few months has passed, the floodgates to some real fun will open and the possibilities are endless!

*** Studio Equipment ***
The in-studio lessons are taught in the living room which includes seating for parents. Upon request, parents can use WiFi to access the internet on their phone, tablet, or computer. Room includes music stands, materials, has 1 acoustic guitar, multiple electric guitars and amps. No pets. Non-smoking. Parking: a few spaces available out front or roof of garage with elevator access.

*** Travel Equipment ***
I provide the equipment for my own instruments. I also provide the student with printed material which includes a beginner packet as well as more intermediate/advanced material as the student progresses. The student must provide their own equipment including a personal amp, guitar, and music stand.

*** Specialties ***
I specialize in blues, rock, and metal. I also specialize in music theory and song writing.

Guitar, Music Theory

About Me

I am originally from Germany and started playing the guitar at the age of 10. After two years of classical guitar instruction I enrolled at the School of Rock Guitar in Offenbach (near Frankfurt, Germany) for a one-year program. After that I started performing with many well-known regional musicians and bands until graduating from high school in 1995. After high school I moved
to Boston, Massachusetts to study music at the world renown Berklee College of Music from where I graduated in 2002 with a Bachelor's of Music Degree (Magna Cum Laude). I majored in two areas: Guitar Performance / Contemporary Writing & Production.

While in Boston I performed in many ensembles and played in a Classic Rock Cover band for 2 years. I have also participated in many projects during this time in various styles including recording sessions for film-scoring projects, radio jingles and I also composed 45 minutes of music for a Kung Fu School's Cardio Kickboxing DVD. After relocating to Dallas I discovered that I really enjoy teaching music and guitar and have been doing that for over 10 years now. I am always very happy when I see my students succeed. I have had several students that started performing in bands and participated in competitions throughout the Dallas metroplex area after a few months of lessons.
Some of my students went on to study music at Universities.

I always create a personalized lesson plan for each individual student based on musical background, current abilities on the instrument, musical preferences (styles, bands, artists, songs) and student goals. For students with no prior musical training I prefer to go through a beginner's guitar method book along with my own materials to cover all the basics (parts of the guitar, tuning, reading standard music notation and tablature, rhythm, basic chords). If students are unsure about what songs they want to learn, I also have a huge collection of song transcriptions for different skill levels and in many different styles (Blues, Rock, Country, Jazz, Classical). Even though I can teach all these styles to a certain degree, my specialization is in Rock and Blues. At Berklee I have studied with a lot of great guitar teachers. Among them Jon Finn and Joe Stump. I have studied extensively with Joe Stump in private lessons for 6 semesters and incorporate a lot of the material I have learned there into my own lessons. At the intermediate to advanced level I cover all important solo guitar techniques (Alternate Picking, Legato, Sweeping, Hybrid Picking, Tapping).

If you want to get a very good overall music education based on Berklee's curriculum I can provide it without the cost of several thousands of dollars. Topics that can be covered include Ear Training, Harmony, Arranging, Composition, Music Recording & Engineering, and of course Guitar!
If you are stuck or can't get through certain barriers, I may be able to show you techniques or new ways to break through these barriers. You can finally get the results you always wanted or achieve skill levels you never imagined were possible. It does not need to take 10 years to become proficient at an instrument. Big improvements can be experienced after just a few months with the right training.
And most importantly, I believe music should be fun. I always try to make the experience of learning the guitar as enjoyable as possible.

*** Lesson Details ***
My lessons are all about fast results!

€ If you see fast results you will have more fun.
€ If you have more fun learning the guitar you will practice more.
€ If you practice more you will get better faster.

So, your goals are most important to me and help in designing your lesson plans. If you are unsure I can help in setting goals. To reach your goals it is sometimes necessary to fill in gaps that prevent you from getting there, such as an understanding of music theory concepts (scales, chords, arpeggios, etc.) and improving technical skills on the guitar (legato, alternate picking, sweeping, etc.).

*** Studio Equipment ***
Music room downstairs: computer desk, speakers, amps, music stand, two chairs, stereo and ipod, room for parents to wait in living room

*** Travel Equipment ***
I expect students to have their own instrument. If it's an electric guitar they also need to have an amp and a cable. I would also recommend getting a music stand and a tuner (an iPhone- or Android app will work well for this also). I provide all materials such as books, transcriptions, and other lesson documents.
I carry my own guitar(s), amps, and other accessories needed with me to the lessons.

*** Specialties ***
With more advanced students I generally follow the Berklee College Of Music Guitar Department's curriculum. For beginners I like to go through books such as Fast Track Guitar Method or similar Hal Leonard books. I have also accumulated a lot of my own materials and transcriptions over the years that I use all the time.

I can teach almost any style of Music (Blues, Rock, Country, Classical), but I am best in Rock Styles, especially Classic Rock from the 60's, 70's, 80's. I especially like to teach Blues Guitar, Hard Rock and Modern Rock Guitar Styles.

Clarinet, Guitar, Oboe, Piano, Singing

About Me

I have been a music teacher and private lesson instructor for the past 17 years. I have a bachelor of science degree in Music Education and hold a teaching certificate for all-level Music Education. In my private studio I have taught students from 3-70 and have enjoyed them all! In addition to teaching music I also serve as the Music Minister for my church. Students coming to me can expect a tremendous amount of experience as well as a committed, honest and caring teacher.

*** Lesson Details ***
For beginning piano students I like to use the Alfred series, supplemented, of course, with songs/styles of music that interest the student.

Guitar, clarinet, and oboe students can expect to begin with the Essential Elements series as a primer and introduction. I've had a lot of success with these books.

Voice students are a bit different in that I don't use a specific method to instruct. I have many books that I draw from when teaching voice due to the unique nature of the individual. Depending on the style of music, from classical to jazz/pop, I have music that will teach proper breath support, vowel placement and tone.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Home studio: converted dining room with 3 guitars, young percussion instruments, upright piano and f/w keyboard. Seating available for parents.
Music ministry at First Christian Church in Terrell. Access to choir room with upright piano. Seating available for parents.

*** Specialties ***
Degree in all-level music education with specialty in voice.

About Me

My name is Mike E. I am a resident of Lake Highlands. I played by ear for eleven years before starting training on music and how to teach by Mr. Terrill Gardner. Terrill took me through music from the Rolling Stones all the way through "Modern Method for Guitar" books I, II, and III from Berklee College in Boston. He was my mentor and taught me a method that he spent thirty years perfecting. It works, guaranteed. He also taught me on bass guitar and banjo. I can help you.

Lessons are customized to meet the needs of the individual, with the primary focus on playing songs as soon as possible. I am talking about playing along with the pros, not reading notes for months and playing "Mary Had a Little Lamb." I have combined my "by ear" knowledge with Terrill's training to provide a unique approach to music, chords, music theory, ear training, and more. Even piano lessons start with learning chords. Chords are what the musicians play behind the vocals.

Give me thirty minutes of your time and I will show you why students keep coming back to me, even after stopping for a while.

*** Lesson Details ***
Not accepting "Pay As You Go" from TakeLessons.com,
ONLY MONTHLY students at this time.

Note Reading provided on request only.

Beginner Guitar - We start with simple chords and eight easy one-verse songs. These teach chords, timing, hand technique, ear training, song construction, and the start of music theory.

Intermediate to Advanced Guitar - all of the above plus tablature, different styles, advanced chord theory, performance, lead guitar, and more.

Beginning Piano - We start with simple chords and go straight into the songs the students like. These teach chords, timing, hand technique, ear training, song construction, and the start of music theory. I can teach you every major chord on piano in one sentence.

Bass Guitar - We start with learning the location of notes on the neck and move immediately into major chords so you can start playing with songs. The chords are divided into their single notes, but viewed as chords because that is what the other musicians are playing during the vocals.

Banjo - I teach from the book "I Can Teach Myself Banjo" but you really need a teacher/mentor to show you all the things that seeing and being able to ask questions covers that just can't be covered in a book.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Piano, amplifiers, cords, computer, free WiFi, all in a spacious room with a window for parents to view the teacher and student. Parents have a large, comfortable waiting area. Restrooms and water fountain provided.

*** Specialties ***
I specialize in mentoring, being a friend as well as a teacher. I have never gotten mad at a student and never will.

I have written three books on chord theory, "Chordmaster Chord Theory for Keyboard," "Chordmaster for Beginner Piano Students," and "Chordmaster Chord Theory for Guitar." You can learn more about these online.
