Trina G. New Hyde Park, NY

About Trina

I'm a friendly, patient, enthusiastic, experienced teacher, joyfully instructing piano professionally since 1999. Music transcends words, and I have a deep understanding of music/ piano, both personal/ experiential, and technical/ academic which I truly enjoy sharing with my students. A classically-trained pianist, I've been taking piano lessons since age 6 and playing "by ear" from early childhood. I continued to study piano throughout elementary school, high school, and college where I studied piano, music history and theory. I studied and completed fieldwork and internships in music therapy and psychology, and have extensive experience working with students with special needs. In graduate school, I studied piano and music theory under David Holzman, world-renowned ...

My 5 and 8 years old sons have been learning piano from Ms.Trina almost a year. I was amazed at Ms. Trina's unending patience. I cannot believe I can find a piano teacher with good patience dealing with my sons. My 5 year old son was always lacking confidence to do every single thing, but through Ms. Trina's encouragement, he has gain confidence and he actually feels proud of himself when he plays something well. My 8 years old son likes to complain every single things, but he was so happy with Ms. Trina and he even told me Ms. Trina is the best teacher. Ms. Trina also customized each lesson according to my sons' needs. She is creative and fun approach to work totally engaged my sons. She is such an amazing and one of a kind teacher- her love for her work is apparent in her commitment to her students.

I am a NYS certified teacher who has been teaching in the school system for 20 years. I hold both my BM and MA degree in Music Education, and Jazz guitar was my major instrument in college. Incorporated in my system of guitar training work in music reading, music theory, fretboard navigation, pick-control and fingerstyle techniques, and ear-training applicable to most contemporary styles of music. *** Lesson Details *** My lessons follow a structured format. I begin with technical exercises for both the picking/strumming hand and the fretting hand, leading to good sound production. As students learn to achieve well-balanced tones, they learn to apply that to the written page using standard music notation and the TAB system. When the year started and I wanted to get serious playing guitar and becoming a better performer, singer, songwriter and just overall musician, I said to myself, "Where do I start?" To find someone of Bernadette's talent, quality, and patience has truly be amazing. She is great at setting up a practice structure and teaching theory as well as building up your skills and open to directing the lessons to exactly what you are looking for. My confidence on the guitar has grown by leaps and bounds and I looking forward to continuing the journey...5 stars!!!!!

I've had 4 lessons so far with Bernadette. I am an adult and feel I am making great progress. The lessons are a good mix of learning to play the guitar, learning to read music and theory. She recommended a good beginner book and while we stick to it she tailors the material according to how I am doing and need to learn. She also makes notes and gives me additional work in a music notebook. The lessons are never rushed and because there isn't a student after me usually are 5-10 minutes over the 45 minutes.
I feel fortunate to have found someone with a Masters in music education and 20 years of teaching experience.

Jason is a fantastic drum teacher. I would highly recommend his services. Jason is a professional, dedicated, great personality and caring person. He is the type of person after meeting him we felt like we have known him for years. He taught my son not just to play the drums but also to be a performer. My son would always come home excited after lessons. Jason makes it fun for my son to learn. Within a few months my son played at our school talent show and he gave the performance of his life!
