Fun, engaging, personalized, and productive, lessons with me are enjoyable and highly effective. I'll help you reach your goals!
I've been teaching professionally since 2/1999.
Every June, I hold an annual Piano Recital so parents, family, friends can see the students’ great work.
For young beginners, I use the Music for Little Mozart's books or Alfred Premier. For ages 6-7 through early teens, I typically use the Faber Piano Adventures lesson book, For adults, the Alfred Basic Adult Piano Course, or any lesson book of their choice.
Each student is given a Music Journal in which I document homework; what and how to practice. I have an extensive library. Students / parents are welcome to request a tutorial video.
After learning the fundamentals, my students are free to choose which songs they want to learn; multiple genres of music.

About Trina
I'm a patient, friendly, enthusiastic, highly experienced teacher. A classically-trained pianist, I started playing keyboard "by ear" from around age 2, and started piano lessons at age 6. In college, I studied piano, music theory/history, and psychology in addition to fieldwork in music therapy (which prepared me to teach students with special needs). In grad school, I specialized in classical piano and theory/ composition.
Lessons with me are personalized. However. proper technique is taught to all students. Overall, I want the love of music to be the reason my students want to practice and attend lessons. I believe the rapport between student and teacher is tantamount. I strive for my students to develop a love of music that will last a lifetime.
*I hold annual Student Piano Recitals at the end of the school year.*

About Matthew
I have been playing professionally for over 30 years and have taught for over 10. I am proficient on keyboards, guitar, bass, ukelele, as well as lead and harmony vocals and songwriting. My focus is on developing your musical intuition through ear training, and accessing the music within. I have a home recording studio to help with the learning process. I provide a fun, safe, non-critical environment where you can access your inner musician in the most enjoyable way possible.

Many of my students have gone onto become prolific songwriters and musicians and have recorded albums. Even beginners can learn quickly from my method which emphasizes techniques for keeping learning music fun.

My 10th CD was released last year on Sojourn Records and was featured as NPR song of the day. Over the years my music has received much critical accl
aim as I have continued to tour the world. I have opened for legends such as David Bowie, Ron Sexsmith, Robyn Hitchcock, Morphine, Bob Mould, Freedy Johnston, among many others. I have produced over a dozen albums by other artists and songwriters, and composed for major motion pictures including last years film, WON’T BACK DOWN starring Maggie Gyllenhaal.

“In a career spanning more than 20 years, he has established himself as one of America's great under-the-radar songwriters. Had he emerged five decades back, he might have been a Tin Pan Alley stalwart, turning out intelligent, accessible songwriting with the clockwork genius of and Gary Goffin. His work is rife with the clever, incisive tunefulness that marked that era.”-- National Public Radio

Students can expect to discover or re-discover their love for music and and their own natural musical inclinations. Many students report an increased sense of joy and possibility in their own lives. Curriculum depends on level of student, but is focused on being able to play favorite songs, develop comfort and ease in playing style, and accessing creativity and originality in approach. After 3 to 6 months working with me, most students can feel comfortable calling themselves a musician!

*** Specialties ***
I teach mainly guitar, keyboards, ukelele, and voice from beginning up to intermediate. I try to incorporate songwriting into the process as i find that it speeds up the process and helps to encourage enthusiasm and a more focused effort and better results. I am fluent in most styles but come from a folk, rock, country, pop background. I also have a home studio and use recording techniques to develop style and vocal ability.

Had my first lesson with Matthew last night. He was great - quickly figured out my skill level, and came up with some songs that fit me well. They were easy enough that I can learn them, but with some challenging parts to make it fun. The pace of the lesson was great; we mixed teaching with playing, and he even threw in some intro music theory tidbits to help me understand better what I was doing. I left motivated to practice, and I'm looking forward to my next lesson.

You will be expected to improve your playing in a very precise and sharp way, such as digging into developing techniques and training your ears to understand the piece.

With jazz, transcribing will also be included in the lesson.

About Cheong

My classes are very flexible when it comes to what the student wants. I can go from just teaching very basic bass playing to advanced harmonic concepts and jazz improvisation. On the first class, I give the student the choice of controlling our lessons materials about what they want to learn. Or the student can choose to let me control our classes, in which I will bring my own materials and ideas in which we should work and will go through the whole academic process of learning music.

About Marcelo
Established New York musician. Berklee College of Music Graduate. Have been teaching for many years and know that each student has their own mindset and we need to work around each person`s goals and interests. I teach mainly pop, rock, blues, jazz, classical, funk, RnB. All ages and levels are welcome.

*** Lesson Details ***
Lessons are very relaxed and we will focus on ways to practice and getting the student to learn what he/she wants. Some people just want to come and learn a few tunes, some want to really learn the instrument and practice all the time. It all depends on the individual and I`m more than ready to adapt for each one of my students with the methods I have.
On our first class we will spend some time discussing what are the goals of the student and I will formulate a good plan so we can reach those goals in no time
.
I usually have 3 main paths that the student can choose.
1st - Learn the instrument enough so you can play your favorite songs and have fun with friends.
2nd(most requested) - Learn the instrument from scratch. Study technique, repertoire, a little of reading and music theory and learn how to improvise. This will allow the person to have their own tools to study on their own after attending classes with me.
3rd - Usually people who have been playing before like this one. We will go deep in music theory, ear training, reading, improvising and technique. Always leaning challenging tunes that will develop the student skills. This one allows the student to follow a professional path on the future, or maybe go into a music college.

*Location
Classes can take place at my studio or at your own location with an extra fee for transportation.

*Under 18 students
For children under 18 parents are more than welcome to stay for the classes, tell me if there is any specific goal you are looking for or talk about any subject that you might want.

*AUDITION PREP
I also help people to prepare for auditions. For this subject, I will tell you how to get ready for an audition. If you are trying to get in a college I have many contacts around the country and know how most auditions work and can help you with any question there might be. For auditions for orchestras or band we can work on repertoire and behavior to get you ready and all set to get accepted.

From a boarding arts secondary school to prestigious conservatories in both the US and Europe, I have honed my craft, and developed a love for sharing my passion with others. I have taught students at the Yale School of Music and at the Eastman School of Music in the United States. My goal as a teacher is to instill my own love for music in my students.

I am a concert pianist with a passion for teaching. From a boarding arts secondary school to prestigious conservatories in both the US and Europe, I have honed my craft, and developed a love for sharing my passion with others. I studied with some of the best teachers in the world at Eastman, the Yale School of Music, the Paris Conservatoire, and the Royal Conservatory of Ghent, in addition to having attended some of the greatest festivals in the world to study with other great pianists and pedagogues. Lessons should be a creative and fun way to challenge your abilities and encourage growth. The curriculum is always designed with custom exercises to keep your goals and musical interests at the forefront.

About Matt
Hello and welcome!

My name is Matt and my goal is to create an enjoyable, safe environment for you to learn as effectively as possible. Music is hard work but it is the most fun when you are improving and doing what you want! Having been through years of many types of music lessons, a master's program and worked in music publishing, I know that what is most important it is to have a mentor who is thoughtful and open to honest conversations about goals, needs, and interests--- someone who invests and goes the extra mile to help you succeed--- someone who inspires and challenges you. This focused, collaborative approach to education is rare but of utmost importance to my style.

I'm first and foremost a composer with interest in using these skills to encourage you to discover and achieve your goals in composition, theory, or beginn
ing piano: additionally I'm in the very beginning stages of developing these ideas into a mobile/web application to further encourage consistent learning habits outside of lessons.

I look forward to meeting with you!

Matthew is an excellent teacher with a ton of patience, as well. Coming into our first lesson, I had some beginner experience, but it had been a while since I actively played the piano. His lessons focus on assuring that the fundamentals are understood, then progressively building into more difficult pieces and even some theory. I would definitely recommend, as I am still taking lessons weekly!

Matt has a better understanding of how to analyze and explain compositional theory and techniques for me as his student than any other source I’ve found. He’s patient, intuitive of your level of understanding, and extremely knowledgeable not just about theory but the meaning and artistic expression that composition on this level has to offer. Thanks Matt!

If you choose to take lessons with me, your money is going toward top-notch private music instruction. My curriculum includes goal-setting meetings and check-ups to ensure that my student and myself are both doing our best to realize his or her musical ambitions. I utilize 'before and after' recordings to show my students just how far they've come without even realizing it, stirring up deeper motivation and reinforcing the power of practicing. Although I've been playing for over 15 years and now perform regularly in the NYC area, I don't expect my skills and experience to simply rub off on my students. When you schedule a lesson with me, you are working with an educator, not a performer.

Although I am a saxophonist professionally, I've been playing piano alongside it for a decade, and I'm fully capable of taking on beginner and intermediate students on this instrument, from classical, to jazz, to blues, to songwriting.

Rest assured, the unique features of my teaching style and ...

About Alden
I'm a baritone saxophonist and a die-hard jazz enthusiast living in Crown Heights, Brooklyn. I graduated from Bard College with a BA in music, specifically jazz performance and contemporary composition. In addition to saxophone, I also play clarinet, bass clarinet, flute, and piano (I'm also convinced that I can play the drums, but my friends disagree).
Since moving to Brooklyn, I've entrenched myself in the New York music scene, playing mainly jazz, funk and pop, as well as composing my own music on the side.

In addition to performing, I teach regularly, giving in-home lessons to my students throughout the NYC area. I teach all levels of saxophone, as well as beginner to intermediate piano, and beginner flute and clarinet. I offer a rich curriculum with my own set of teaching materials such as, goal calendars, practice logs, and be
fore-and-after recordings.
If you are thinking of booking lessons, don't hesitate to contact me via Take Lessons. That way I can ensure that I have space in my studio and that you will get the most out of your experience with me. Can't wait to work with you!

My son has been taking lessons with Alden for about 6 months now and I can notice great strides being made in both his playing and overall confidence. Alden's encouraging nature coupled with his love and knowledge of his instrument and music in general creates an incredibly nourishing learning environment for a student.
