Lessons begin with stretching, vocal warm ups, scales, and extensive breath work, as well as resolving any tensions that may be hindering your vocal production. I then through collaboration with the student, work on beginning repertoire that is suited for the voice, and challenging at the same time. I record all lessons, and email them to the student so that one has the opportunity to review the warm ups, and hear the improvement in the voice, I also write a review of every lesson, with notated warm-ups and a list of "To Do's" for the week so that the student will have a structured practice week. I provide music, and if needed recordings of the pieces so that the student can take the materials back to their homes and practice them on their own.

Singing/Audition and Resume Coach:

Lessons begin with stretching, vocal warm ups, scales, and extensive breath work, as well as resolving any tensions that may be hindering your vocal production. I record all lessons, and email them to the student so that one has the opportunity to review the warm ups, and hear the improvement in the voice, I also write a review of every lesson, with notated warm-ups and a list of "To Do's" for the week so that the student will have a structured practice week. I track the range of
the voice, and usually within a month it will have improved by at least 4 notes either higher or lower.

It is important to note that learning voice is a highly individualized journey, each person will have their own set of strengths and weaknesses, as a teacher it is my job to asses this in a person and craft a curriculum, and style that will fit those individual needs.

I am also adept at navigating local opportunities for students in the Seattle Theater world. I have had students receive callbacks at 5th avenue, perform for Seattle Childrens Theater. Young Actors Institute, Driftwood Players, win multiple pageants and score high in talent as well as acting opportunities in movies and modeling. I am a performer as well and had to navigate through the college system as well as the Seattle theater system and can provide much guidance to those interested with resume, repertoire and audition coaching.

There is no feeling in the world than the freedom and beauty of singing, it is a joy to hear in my students, and very fulfilling to teach this kind of wonderfully positive experience to people of all ages!

I received my B.A. in vocal performance from San Francisco Conservatory of Music in 2009. I am a classically trained singer, however I enjoy all genre’s of music and firmly believe having a classical base in a singing technique will enrich any style of music you wish to work toward. I am devoted to healthy singing, and unlocking your true timbre and voice with extensive breath, and vowel work. As a graduate from a highly competitive music institution I can help in guiding students along the right path of pursuing this art form at a collegiate level.

Theory/Song Writing techniques:

For some students learning music is just as much a part of the lesson as learning to sing. I love teaching people of all ages how to read music, so that the student can be an independent teacher for themselves and learn music on their own at home, this I think is very important in order to improve skills for singing, the faster the student can learn music, the more time can be spent working on technique and improving the sound of the voice.

I graduated from a prestigious Conservatory and had to take very advanced theory classes in order to receive my degree. I also played flute and oboe in orchestra for 10 years, and taught myself how to play piano. I have assisted some of my students interested in writing their own music on chord progressions, and have offered my musical expertise on their compositions. There is nothing like being involved in the creative process of composing and I love supporting my students that decide to explore this art form.

Speaking Lessons:

I have a studio in Bellevue where I work closely with the transgender community as a vocal coach to feminize my clients voices transitioning from male to female. It is a wonderful process and anyone interested please do contact me!

I also teach language diction classes. I am fluent in IPA (international phonetics alphabet) in English, French, German, Italian, and Spanish. I can help with accent reduction in English or pronunciation in any of the above languages.

A little bit about me:

“Playing alongside Drumheller were a number of young performers like Jordan M., who appeared as Cousin Hebe. A past member of Tacoma Opera's Young Artist Program, she is an emerging artist with a beautiful voice and very appealing stage presence who is slated to appear in several shows in the region this year.” whereissandy.com, Sandy McDade Chair of the ArtsFund Board, 2015

Soprano Jordan M. kicked off 2015 with a role debut of Nancy In Albert Herring with Vashon Opera. She was thrilled to make her 5th Avenue Main Stage debut in The Sound of Music, and to sing in Cry To Heaven part of 5th Avenue's New Works Department, which was a collaboration with writer Anne Rice and academy award nominated composer Matthew Wilder (whose credits include the music of Mulan).  She joined Tyrolean Opera this last summer on a full Scholarship in Maurach, Austria on Lake Achen (Achensee), in a role debut of Gretel in Humperdincks Hansel und Gretel.

In 2014 she was excited to be in the world premiere of Yoshinaka, by Garrett Fisher with the Fisher Ensemble as Tomoe.  It was an adaptation of the traditional Japanese Tales of Ise, which made it’s world premiere at Seattle’s ACT Theater “Central Heating Lab Series”.  It was a noteworthy collaboration with Munenori Takeda, and The Takeda Noh troupe which consists of members who are Living National Treasures in Japan for their Noh artistry, this collaboration was featured on the front page of The Arts section of the Seattle Times.

Other notable credits from 2014 include 2nd Lady in The Magic Flute,  Rosina, in Il Barbiere di Siviglia with Tacoma Opera and a recording for Kakitsubata, with The Garrett Fisher Ensemble for Jack Straw Production Studios.  In spring of 2014 Ms. McClellan sang Papagena and 2nd Lady with Skagit Opera, and  N.O.I.S.E. (Northwest opera in schools) for their Washington tour, as well as various Rossini arias with Bremerton Symphony, and two solo recitals with Second-City Chamber Series, and Music Northwest.  She also continues to be involved in recording sessions for Hollywood’s top video game soundtracks, including Starcraft and World of Warcraft.

Jordan is equally at home singing song repertoire as well as early music. She was chosen to participate in Lieder Alive! Singers Studio with Håkan Hagegård in San Francisco, CA where she delved deeper into lieder classics, culminating in a public masterclass.  Ms. McClellan has since been invited to sing several recitals with, Second City Chamber Series, in Lakewood, WA, Music Northwest, in Seattle, Wa, Hearthstone Chapel Recital Series, in Seattle, WA, Skagit Opera, at Lairmont Manor, as well as with Tacoma Opera.  Her recital repertoire varies from Italian Art Song, to Fauré Chanson, Lieder, American Songbook Classics, as well as Irish Folk Songs.  She has particpiated in Accademia D’amore, a summer program lead by Grammy Award winner Stephen Stubbs who is  devoted to educating singers about early music, baroque dance and rhetoric.  Most recently she participated in Bach Meisterkurs, in Leipzig Germany (Bach’s hometown) to learn the art of stylistically singing Bach’s passions.

Past credits include a 3 month tour with Portland opera singing Hansel in Hansel and Gretel, Phylo in the West Coast premier of Pénélope by Fauré with Vespertine Opera, and her Italian concert debut in Urbania, Italy at the Teatro Bramante.

Her upcoming engagements include, starring in a local independent film as an opera singer, a role debut of Adalgisa in Skagit Opera’s Norma, singing a solo recital with Music Northwest, a performance with the Fisher Ensemble at Folklife Festival, as well as a performer at the Sankt Goar International Music Festival in Germany.

My name is Evelyn and I'm 33 yo. I'm also transgender MTF and have always wanted to sing with my new voice. Jordan is incredibly patient and shows a lot of care for what I have tried to accomplish. Without her I would have been too afraid the let my singing voice be heard. I'm so lucky to have found a professional like her to help me find my singing voice during the journey of my transition. I highly recommend her to anyone who is new to singing or wants to improve their existing voice. She's worth every minute.

Students will learn how to present their repertoire with healthy technique, appropriate stylizing, and intentional dramatic choices. Students will also get practice performing in front of others

*all lessons are always taylored to be appropriate vocally and dramatically for age, voice type, and ability

About Serena
Hello! My name is Serena!

Music shapes my life and has made me the person I am today. My experience in training in opera, musical theatre, jazz, and pop has expanded my musical skills and knowledge. Not only have I been trained in performance, but I have also studied music history, music theory, conducting, movement training, ballet, Alexander Technique, acting, yoga, stage craft, improvisation, other languages, diction and the International Phonetic Alphabet, voice science and anatomy, and vocal pedagogy. I have completed my Bachelor of Music in Operatic Vocal Performance from the prestigious Jacobs School of Music at Indiana University under the tutelage of the legendary Carol Vaness. I have also studied with acclaimed teachers and coaches around the world including Dr. Kari Ragan and Maestro Dean Williamson.

This year has been w
onderfully packed with performance for Seattle Opera. I just closed out a 78 performance run of CINDERELLA IN SPAIN where I sang the role of CINDERELLA and was even on the poster! I also performed the roles for the Seattle Opera preview performances of GRETEL in HANSEL UND GRETEL, VIOLETTA in LA TRAVIATA, KATYA in KATYA KABANOVA, and QUEEN OF THE NIGHT in MAGIC FLUTE. I made my Seattle Opera debut singing ALITSA and RACCOON in their touring production of "OUR EARTH", as well as performing on the mainstage in many productions. My upcoming performances include singing in the Seattle Opera kick off to the season SUMMERFEST in July; and OLYMPIA in LES CONTES D'HOFFMANN with Pacific Northwest Opera. My other roles include ALKANDRE in PENELOPE with Vespertine Opera in Seattle, WA; FRASQUITA in CARMEN with OperaBend in Bend, Oregon and Pacific Northwest Opera; and SUSANNA in LE NOZZE DI FIGARO with the Seattle Opera Guild. I also made my international debut in December 2014 singing GRETEL in HANSEL UND GRETEL with Opera Mariposa in Vancouver, BC. I have also been the featured soloist as "Christine" in Ten Grand's Phantom of the Opera at Benaroya Hall in Seattle, WA, and many lead roles in both opera and musical theatre: such as Semele (Semele), Marie (La Fille du Regiment), Gretel (Hansel und Gretel), Countess Ceprano and Gilda (Rigoletto), Blondchen (Die Entfuehrung aus dem Serail), Maria (West Side Story), La Fee (Cendrillon), Sarah Brown (Guys and Dolls), Cathy (The Last 5 Years), Rosina (Barber of Seville), and more! I have also been part of jazz ensembles, and won the Battle of the Bands at Indiana University with a rock group! I am proud to have won the Seattle Opera Guild/Opera Plus Young Artist Scholarship Award for the 2015/2016 season, the Encouragement Award in the Metropolitan Opera National Council District Auditions, First Place in the National Classical Singers Competition, the C.M. Gerber Scholarship, Music Dean's Scholarship, Music Faculty Award, First Place at Washington State Solo and Ensemble Competitions, First Place in the National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS) National Competitions, and many more!

Teaching brings me such joy! To share the love of music and to educate the musicians of tomorrow is both gratifying and inspiring. I have been teaching since 2005 and provide a fun and focused learning experience where there are no "wrong" questions, and everybody's unique voice is celebrated! Many of my students have gone on to study music in college, and have landed lead roles in musical theatre, choir solos, All State and All Northwest choirs, and won awards in Classical competitions.

In my spare time, I like to hike, eat good food, and spend time with family and friends!

*** Lesson Details ***
My studio provides musical knowledge through private lessons including healthy vocal technique, basic understanding of music theory, and basic piano skills. I encourage a fun and focused environment. Come ready to learn, and let's make music!

A typical lesson will include vocalises that detail proper technique, some ear training work, some music theory training, and will be followed by repertoire. During this time, students will learn how to produce clear and authentic diction (English and other languages), breath management, phrase shaping, smooth transitions between higher and lower pitches, stylistic ornamentation, as well as dramatic involvement of the piece.

Students will learn the importance of the foundations of breath support, and how to create a healthy sound for any genre while keeping the unique qualities of their own voice-- no cookie-cutter singers here! Students will also learn how to read music, practice effectively, perform authentically, and take care of their delicate instrument for a lifetime of singing!

While Skype is a marvelous tool that has revolutionized the world of teaching, nothing can replicate natural acoustics. In-studio lessons are suggested for a clearer and more personable lesson.
**Skype lessons are reserved for long distance students only**

STUDIO ABSENCE and CANCELLATION POLICIES:
Regularly scheduled and attended lessons are the best way to see positive changes in your voice! The smooth running of the Studio Schedule helps make that happen. Therefore, missing lessons is discouraged and make up lessons/cancellations are not given in the Studio unless:
- I have had a performance or rehearsal that conflicts with our lesson time and cannot have the lesson as scheduled. If this occurs, I will inform you of the event as soon as possible and give you the option of a make up lesson or cancelling the lesson.
- Notices of foreseen cancellations (family vacations, religious holidays, school functions, special occasions etc.) are eligible for rescheduling or cancellation if given before the first lesson of the month.
- Of course, life can throw us for a loop! Illness, emergencies, and unforeseen events may possibly be given make ups or cancellations and will be determined at the Studio's discretion. (In the matter of illness: standard procedure is that if the student can attend work/school, they should come to their lesson. A cold can easily be worked around. If the voice is affected (for singing students), Studio time can still be used to work on ear training, music theory, music history, etc.)

All other absences will result in the lesson being marked as "missed". A hard copy of the Studio Policies and further details will be given to the student at the first lesson. Please feel free to ask any questions or clarifications.

*** Studio Equipment ***
The studio lessons take place in a designated area of my home. The room includes seating for parents to observe lessons as well as a weighted keyboard (88 keys), music stand, desk, and materials. No pets. Lots of street parking is available. Shopping and coffee/food located within walking distance.

*** Specialties ***
Specialties: Classical/Opera
Other styles and genres: Musical Theatre, Jazz, Pop, and Rock.

I had my first singing lesson with Dan in person, and he was awesome. It started right away with me singing a song of my choice for him so that he could get an idea of where I am at and how to work with me. From there, Dan explained in great depth and detail with helpful analogies and examples of basic techniques that I can use and apply right away after my first lesson. Already, I can tell I have found a very good teacher to help me on this new journey.

Alignment is the basis a great technique. Each person is different, and knowing how to help them release unwanted tension is critical.

The vocal folds are the core of the sound, and must be given the utmost care and consideration. Proper hydration is essential. They are also muscles, that need strengthening exercises and time for them to change. This will improve your vocal endurance and range. As a highly trained voice teacher, I can hear if the vocal folds are behaving in a healthy and efficient manner. It is essential that your teacher understand how to care for these delicate components of the human voice.

Vocal resonance is how opera singers are heard without amplification. It can be enhanced through awareness and coordination of the various portions of the vocal tract. There are two main components that help magnify the sound. The pharynx, also known as the throat, and the soft palate. Having an open throat and lift soft palate not only help your boost the ...

I put this subject here because I wanted to be clear that I am willing to work with all singers, experienced or just starting out, from people who are simply interested in how their voice works to those looking for professional level training. I am also happy to work on different styles, including basics of jazz and pop, as well as musical theater and classical music.

About Natalie
Hello, I'm Natalie, and I am a soprano. I enjoy performing as a soloist, chamber singer, and professional chorister in the Pacific Northwest, Midwest, and Italy. I taught private voice lessons to middle school and high school students at an independent school, as well as free-lance lessons with adult singers, for my last three years in Chicago leading up to my move to Seattle recently. I also became a certified teacher in Illinois in music for K-12, including general music, band, orchestra, and chorus, which is what I used to do full time before deciding to balance my career more evenly between teaching and performing.

As a soloist, my recent performances include my Artist Diploma recital with Byron Shenkman (harpsichord) and Janet See (baroque flute), the Bach's Lunch concert series with Henry Lebedinsky (harpsichord, organ), and th
e Classical Music Nights at Cafe Racer concert series, all here in Seattle. Other significant solo performances include Mahler’s Symphony No. 4 (2015), Purcell’s Te Deum Laudamus (2014), Mendelssohn’s Hear My Prayer (2014), Fauré’s Requiem (2013), and Bach’s Magnificat (2012). As a chorister in 2013 I rocked it hard singing with the Rolling Stones. I received my Bachelor and Master of Music degrees from the Chicago College of Performing Arts at Roosevelt University in 2010 and 2015, respectively. I am a recent graduate of the Artist Diploma in Early Music program at Cornish College of the Arts.

Lessons are fun and invaluable for all levels of performers, whether you're looking to brush up on your karaoke skills, or enhance your career. We'll work on proper use of shape, space and placement, increasing resonance and range, proper body mechanics, and breathing. Each lesson will be tailored to your needs, and beginning students can work on the basics, while advanced students work on polishing technique, stage presence and performance practice. All lessons are informative!

About Christopher
H, there! My name is Chris, and I love teaching people how to sing! Whether it's brushing up on your karaoke skills or getting ready for the next school contest or professional audition, I'd love to help!

I attended Pacific Lutheran University for Vocal Performance, where I studied voice with Marcia Baldwin of MET Opera fame, and before that with George Peckham - the teacher of Merrilee Rush, and Ann and Nancy Wilson of Heart. I've had the great privilege of working with such noted professionals as Marvin Hamlisch, Asher Fisch, and Peter Phllpsand with local Jazz legends such as Frank Demiero and Phil Matson.

In addition to teaching and singing, I conduct Illumni Men's Chorale (America's Got Talent, Season 6!), and I was the staff Vocal Coach for the Seattle Choral Company, Seattle SeaChordsmen, and the Seattle Men's Chorus - the
largest male choir in the world.

I love teaching all styles of music, and while affectations may vary, the basics are all the same. If you're interested in lessons, please say hello!

Just Sing!

I've been teaching voice since 2012, and I've studied voice for over 10 years. I have primarily been trained in the Italian school of singing, which emphasizes healthy, individualized singing voices over attaining a specific "sound." My goal is to help you sing the best way that you can, not to turn you into a copy of any one singer! Breathing, posture, diction, expression, and technique are all elements of singing we will work on together.

About Tia
Tia graduated from Dordt College in 2014 with a BA in Music Performance and Pedagogy. An avid vocalist and single-reed woodwind player, she has been studying music for over 15 years with a variety of teachers, and has experience in the Jazz, Musical Theatre, Praise, and Classical styles. Tia has done well at state-level competitions and honor bands/choirs for both single-reeds and voice from middle school through college, whether for NATS or WMEA. Each lesson is tailored to the individual student's goals and needs, and each lesson combines both physical technique and imaginative style/performance to create a balanced musician with a deep understanding and love for the art form.

Broadway comes to Seattle! Let's have fun learning to use your voice! We will vocalize and work on repertoire appropriate to your needs. I firmly believe no two people are alike and will do my best to find what works for you, as an individual. No genre is off limits. I have worked with singers of Musical Theatre, Classical/Opera, Pop, Rock, Jazz, Heavy Metal, etc. I will often choose Musical Theatre and Classical music as teaching tools, but we will always apply the technique we learn to whatever genre you prefer.

About Christie
Find Balance, Maintain a Healthy Instrument, and Experience Freedom to Live Truthfully in the Moment!
We sing because we have something to say; whether a professional singing on Broadway, an amateur singing in the church choir, or a hobbyist singing karaoke. I know first hand the struggle it can be to say what you need to say when your instrument (your voice) seems to be working against you. For this reason, I have made it my mission to learn everything I can about how the voice works, scientifically, in order to understand and then share with my students how we can work WITH our instruments and not against them.

Christie is an amazing voice teacher who focused on what my voice needed each lesson. She is incredibly kind, flexible, and talented and has helped me with not only the vocal quality but the overall performance of every piece I worked on. I cannot say enough on how much I would recommend her.

Christie has been a literal godsend. I am a trained opera singer but have been struggling with nodules and edema of the vocal chords related to a thyroid condition and acid reflux and I feel like I can finally sing again. Her instruction has given me real methods for working around these issues and healing my voice. It has improved my speaking voice as well. The voice is a sensitive instrument and in the wrong hands, you can develop damaging habits. Christie is a teacher you can trust!

I am a classically-trained vocalist and have been studying/performing for the last ten years. Currently pursuing my Bachelors of Music. I have experience working with youth in music and enjoy other genres including Jazz and Broadway Standards. Also able to teach pop/contemporary. My central focus is on technique and building the foundation for healthy, beautiful singing, giving my students tools that they can apply long into their musical careers. I have quite a bit of performance experience and work with my students to develop their stage presence for auditions and competitions. Can also teach basic theory. Comfortable with both female and male voices.

This vibrant young lady was just simply a blessing: knowledgeable, dynamic and simply a pleasure to be around and in-take information from. My child was simply taken by her and was, as it seemed and looked to me, craving every following visit from her. She was able to commence, see through and complete the entire task I set in front of her-for my child to be ready for the next stage in her education. My son is going to be in need of similar educational assistance soon-I have already discussed his lessons with Polina and will definitely call upon her once the concrete dates arise!
I strongly recommend this highly gifted, professional and serious individual to anyone looking for a tutor, in more subjects then one, that can captivate and deliver results, not just talk!
