If you take lessons with me, you can expect progression! This takes top priority in my mind. It is very important for my students to know that I encourage keeping track of their progress on their chosen instruments. Setting goals and reaching them can be very satisfying! I recognize that every student has different skill levels and I will teach to the style that they best adapt to. One final note to add, they will be loved!

About Katie

At just 6 months old my mom discovered me humming “Silent Night”. By age 2, I would sit in the bathroom, holding aloft a Reader’s Digest from which I would “read” aloud, belting gibberish at the top of my lungs. Needless to say, my mother quickly enrolled me in the children’s performing group “Suns

"I am a novice guitar player and took lessons from Matt for 10 weeks to try to take my playing up a notch. Matt's teaching style is excellent and was driven by what I wanted. He didn't try to force any particular curriculum but built the lessons around what I wanted to learn. He taught me techniques to learn songs I wanted to play and even mixed in some music theory. I had asked to learn a little theory and Matt made it really interesting. I highly recommend Matt as a guitar instructor!"

"Where to begin?

Mr. Burns has been instrumental (no pun intended), in the development of my guitar playing. I was already a professional studio musician when I encountered Jake. He was playing live at a venue I happened to walk into one evening. After the show, I approached Jake. We had a lengthy discussion on music philosophy, style, and feel.

It was apparent to me, that if I was serious about becoming familiar with more complicated styles of play, Jake would be the man to help me achieve my goals. Jake has been a wonderful friend & mentor. You will not find a more professional, efficient & fun instructor. Mr. Burns is warm & inviting! He will help you reach your goals at "any" level of musicianship."

"I took a wild chance finding Francesca online, not knowing anyone who'd worked with her and not knowing whether lessons online would feel right. but I was more than amazed. Francesca is so articulate, enthusiastic, encouraging, intelligent, tuned in, and just plain musical - the lesson time flew by so fast and I hardly noticed that we weren't in the same room (in fact we were 3,000 miles apart!). She's not a musician who happens to teach, she's a truly gifted and accomplished teacher. I'm very excited about all I can learn from her!"

"My Music background: Been in the church choir as a kid and teen. Love country and pop music. Never played any instrument whatsoever. Always wanted to learn to play the guitar. 2013 summer had taken beginner course at community college.

Lessons with Mr. Jeff: Taking group lessons at the community college, left me yearning for more as well as gave me the strong feeling that i was not learning my basics right. Hence decided to try private lessons. Was looking around on the web for Guitar teachers in/around Edison for couple of months. When i found Mr. Jeff online, and read his profile, I knew i had found my teacher. What impressed me most was:
1. His versatility in different genres of music. The vastness of his knowledge.
2. His specialized focus in finger-picking (My dream some day down the line!)
3. His flexibility in offering lessons - he even offers lessons on Skype.

Its been close to 6 months now. And i have enjoyed every moment in my music journey.

My greatest challenge was to unlearn many of the bad habits from the past. And Mr. Jeff has been greatly patient about it and has given me so many different options and tips/tricks to help me get better. He has a close eye and a sharp ear. There is not one note that i can slide under wrongly without him noticing. Right from handling the instrument right, finger positioning, to appreciating the playing of the instrument itself, he not only tells you how to do things right, but always backs it up with logical reasoning as to why he suggests certain ways. He never forces anything on you, but allows you to make your own choice - which i think is great, because since you are not forced to do anything that you are not convinced about, you have greater conviction to stick to it, because it was your choice.

While we follow the Hal Leonard's book for theory, from the very second lesson, i was encouraged to try playing songs that i liked - an effective approach to learn chords in parallel. And since i love to sing and play, (it was quite a challenge - which i didnt realise earlier), i couldnt just download the chords for a song from the net and start playing/singing right away. Mr Jeff puts a lot of effort in making the right chords for me, in the right scale that suits my voice and is in a comfortable range so that the end result is melodious to the listener. And given that am neither a great student (practicing regularly always a challenge!) nor a great singer, he has had to make so many versions in order to help reach my goals. Am honestly motivated by the fact he does not give up on me when i struggle with a song, but constantly finds ways of how I can conquer it. Maybe not how it is played in the actual record, but to an extent that gives me the satisfaction of being able to play that song within my capacity as a beginner. It is a great feeling when you play a song to tune for the first time.

Apart from being a keen observer, he is also very good with knowing the mood of the student and the student's perception to a particular music piece. He knows exactly what I think even before I can say it out loud. He clearly knows my strength and my weakness. This tells me that he is able to relate to me at my level and not from thousand feet high where he is. He is quick to appreciate when you do a good job and motivates you to stick on and persevere when it is not a great day at the lesson.
He also always remembers what was discussed in the previous lesson and the areas of improvement, so there is no escape. :) This has struck me most because, i know he is connecting to me as an individual student and that am not yet another student on the line.

He has also been most obliging with last minute schedule changes and has always accommodated me.

His home, where he gives his lessons is also very nice and warm. No awkwardness or discomfort of any sort. Thought i will mention this, because this was one of the thoughts in my head when i was searching for a teacher.

Overall I am very glad and thankful that he is my teacher. I will greatly recommend him to anyone who wants to start or take their skill to the next level, because he is not only knowledgeable and but "he can" teach. Hearing him play a piece, is motivation enough to persevere. I only wish I do him better justice by putting more time into practice.

Thank you very much Mr. Jeff."

"We’ve had a great experience with Brian as our son’s guitar teacher for almost three years. Brian is a patient instructor who has nurtured our son’s interest in music and has helped him to focus on the basics. He has enabled our son to explore the guitar an instrument and to instill an appreciation of how artists play it across genres. As a professional musician, Brian conveys a sense of presence and performance, which has been evident in the periodic recitals hosted for his students. Through the recitals, and the prep sessions for them, our son has learned to play both classical pieces and contemporary songs with a notable degree of poise and self-confidence."

"I started lessons with David a couple of months ago unsure about whether I'd stick with guitar lessons at all. I mean, the web is full of tutorials for playing. But I figured I'd give lessons a try.

I have been extremely pleased with my lessons and my progress thus far. Our lessons are a nice mix of learning songs and techniques and always emphasizing what I want to be learning. Considering I'm 39 and years out of school, this is important for me.

David has also been a remarkable teacher for my 8 year old son. Both my wife and I are very happy with the instruction we have received. Yes, David is slightly more expensive than some others here, but you get what you pay for! I wouldn't hesitate to recommend him for anyone looking for lessons."

Guitar Lessons in Provo

By Chris M. - Provo Guitar Teacher

Nestled snugly in the Utah Valley, Provo is home to a surprisingly thriving music scene. If you're taking guitar lessons in Provo, you're in good company; famous artists such as Neon Trees, Imagine Dragons, The Used, Fictionist, and Mindy Gledhill all got their start right here in Provo.

Want to hear some awesome guitarists in your area? Check out hot spots like Velour and Muse on University Avenue, and The Wall at BYU to see up-and-coming and well-established bands, singers, and songwriters. Many of these venues also host weekly open mic nights, where all are welcome to perform.

Provo is also home to several well-known professional recording studios, like June Audio, Audio West, and Studio Studio Dada. These recording studios boast a diverse clientele of artists from Neon Trees to local groups like the Lower Lights.

While the Provo area is known for its vibrant indie scene, there are lots of opportunities to experience a wide variety of music. Besides live rock music, catch a performance from the One Voice Children’s Choir, a non-profit organization that works to inspire, enrich, and uplift the community through music. You can also check out the Utah Valley Symphony, college performance groups, and performing arts and music venues like the Covey Center for the Arts and the Scera Theatre.

When you're taking guitar lessons in Provo, there are several stores to choose from if you need new strings, sheet music, or any other supplies. Some of the best music shops include Summerhays for pianos and keyboards, classical strings, and band instruments; Best in Music for sheet music, guitars, and electronic gear; and Bert Murdock Music for a mix of all of the above. Best in Music is an especially good place for guitar repair.

I teach guitar, bass, and cello, and I also play occasional gigs in the area. I have hosted clinics and sectional rehearsals at local public schools, and with the Utah Valley Youth Symphony. My first priority is to teach you how to practice on your own. This is, after all, where most of the progress takes place. I also focus on teaching you to improvise solos; we start this as early as one month into lessons. All the while, I incorporate music theory, solid rhythmic security, and a little bit of history (as much as you can handle). I also strive to help you learn to use your body; knowing which muscles are at work, avoiding unnecessary tension, breathing, and managing performance anxiety.

My philosophy is that if you work hard, and dedicate yourself, you can learn to play and perform just like your favorite rock stars! The good news is that I’m just one of several incredible guitar teachers in the Provo area. Start your guitar lessons in Provo today!
