I have a huge passion for teaching and playing guitar. I also teach you a wide variety of music such as rock, metal, blues, etc. This helps you not get stuck with one style of playing. I can teach all ages. I'm very patient and I'll always work at your level, so I won't go too fast for you. I'm dependable and always on time. After studying with me you will have a good understanding of music theory, a complete understanding of the instrument, how to write your own music, and how to play multiple different genres of music.

About Phoenix

I love to write music in multiple different genres such as jazz, blues, metal, etc. Music has been in my family for years starting with 3 of my uncles. I love to meet new people. I play and teach many styles and guide my students through the genre of music that they feel most excited about. I explain/demonstrate technical aspects of playing, musicality and theory and show each student the quickest path to success.

About Josh

My experiences with Josh have been great. I have played guitar for many years, but my approach has always been lacking in relation to technique. Josh has helped me form a better mechanical understanding of my posture and movements. The adjustments he has helped me make have resulted in less stress on my fingers, wrist, and arms. He has always been thoroughly prepared for lessons. I would absolutely recommend Josh, especially for new musicians who want to learn their instrument in a fundamentally sound and detail oriented manner.
Paul W.
Been a student of Josh's for a few months now and feel very fortunate to have found him. His attention to detail, continuity between sessions, and obvious broad knowledge base are a few of the elements making this a very rewarding learning experience. I am learning to read music, understand music theory, and develop technique. I have very much looked forward to each lesson which Josh takes the time and effort to build upon with clear assignments and follow up. Josh is highly personable, professional and supportive. I highly recommend Josh.
Mark J.
Excellent, takes time to explain music so I can have a better understanding of the whole process.
I look forward to each class as I learn more.

Guitar has been a passion of mine since I was 15, and I've played in numerous bands. My first guitar teacher was Michael Knust (Fever Tree guitarist) at the Dale Mullins studio in Houston TX. I've also had the opportunity to study with legends such as Bob Brozman. Passing on the lessons I've learned to new students is my way of honoring my teachers.
My emphasis is on technique and theory while keeping the "play" aspect in mind. I'll teach you how to express yourself musically while learning song structure and playing by ear.
I've extensively studied blues guitar as well as classic rock, and I'm equally comfortable with acoustic, electric, rhythm, lead, finger picking, and slide playing. In addition to playing, I can also help you get the tone you want from your instrument with a combination of technique and equipment settings.

About Mark

The most important thing about playing guitar is having fun. Knowing how to play popular songs, jam with other musicians, and create your own songs helps you have the most fun possible. Learning the guitar can be a lifetime journey of exploration. Choosing a teacher is very important. I like to

If your a total beginner... I'm gonna suggest you check out my bass page. Bass is fun. I promise, I wouldn't play it if it wasn't.

Really, Like right now.

No?

Well if your still here, alright. Let's get crackin' on the 6 string. If you read my bio, you see I talk about the "waves" of music. We gotta learn how to surf the waves and stick with a band. The flashy solos will come in time, but just like real surfing, you gotta learn to ride the waves created by the bass and drums before you can start doing tricks on it. Once you have a grasp on meter (the pulse of the waves) we can start talking about some music theory and how the flashy solos can be built upon those waves.

Gonna mention the bass page again. They create the waves... its a lot easier to play in the waves when you know how to make them.

If you are so dedicated to rockin the 6-string that your reading this, then read no further. Message me and tell me what it is you want to play, and we will jump right in.

Aside from being proficient at a craft, a good teacher needs the skill of communication. Being the best physicist in the world doesn't make you the best physics teacher. Knowing how to do something and knowing how to make other people understand it are two very different skills. Lets be honest,

I played an organ years ago ( I am 70 years old) and lost a lot of skills. I now have a digital piano, but I was not satisfied with my progress.

So I signed up for lessons with Steve. I took piano lessons from Steve for about 18 months. I moved about an hour away, so it was not practical to continue with him.

The lessons from Steve were exactly what I was looking for. He figured out my skill level and set up a plan for me. He stressed the fundamentals while teaching a song at the same time. Being able to play a song, even a simple one, was a great reward. Then we progressed to develop more skills and more interesting songs.

Steve is patient, attentive and a good coach. He genuinely loves teaching and finds that “spark” in to build on. I saw this many times as I would listen to him teaching the student before me.

Steve is a great teacher and I strongly recommend him.
Nicole
Steve is a great instructor and took the time to work through any challenges and helped our son grow as a drummer. He has a great virtual setup that makes it sound you are in the studio with him.
Gavin
He is a excellent teacher and an amazing musician. I’m so grateful I get to work with him every week and that he teaches me in a way I can understand. I can’t wait for our future lessons.

At 9 years old, I was skeptical that he would not have the attention span to maintain playing, but we’ve recently lengthened his lessons!
