Reading and Phonics is a bi-weekly program with classes
between 2-5pm on Wednesdays & Fridays ONLY!

Want lessons that will cater to your needs or the needs of your child and not a book?

My Reading and Phonics lessons are made to dazzle and awe your child into an understanding of letters, sounds, and the written page with several learning enrichment programs including but not limited to "Teach Your Child to Read in 100 Easy Lessons", "The McGuffey Reader Program", " The Bible Phonics Program", "The Abeka Curriculum", "The Bible ABC's for Kids", "The Endless Alphabet, Reader and
Words Programs", as well as numerous supplemental material. I also love to work with teachers when possible and use placement tests to determine where to start and periodically to know how to continue. (The kids just think they are games).

All of my lessons are designed to foster a love for reading or music and focus on your reading and Phonics goals or your dream in the music world as well as build knowledge and expertise for both!

Whether it be a specific genre, general, academic reading or repertoire, just not wanting to stumble over words or just wanting to play or sing the songs you enjoy, I have the curriculum and supplemental material to reach your reading or music goals!

Beginner? We can get you started on the right foot! I have experience with adult beginners, seniors and children of all ages. I have special curriculum and activities that enhance interest, reduce stress and help you to maintain what you learn.

Pre-schoolers have a curriculum all their own that teaches phonics, reading or music through lovable animal characters with games on tablet, computer and other resources that teach, reinforce and excite their hearts to learn and retain what they learn.

Does your child have some knowledge but just has not excelled in phonics or reading? We can tailor lessons for just that.

Maybe you have some music knowledge but just can't play or sing that special song? We can tailor lessons for that, too!

Maybe your child knows letters and sounds but just hasn't made the leap to reading? We can tailor the lessons to get your child from point B to Z!

Can you read music but not play on your own? Can you play by ear and not read music? I have experience bridging the gaps.

Is your dream to become a Soloist, harmonizer or karaoke star? Accompany yourself or others or just play for fun? Then why not you and I embark on that exciting journey together!

Is your dream just for your child to be able to read at grade level or above? I will give it my all for them to do so.

Is your dream to become a church musician or play for a choir? or Are you already a church musician but need help with a particular song, program or musical?

Does your Church just sing Hymns? We can do Hymn Lessons.

Does your Church sing only Gospel? We can do Gospel Lessons?

Does your Church only do Contemporary Christian? We can do Contemporary Christian Lessons.

Want to learn it all?

Worship to Him and service to others is the reason that I do what I do!

Try us! You'll be glad you did!!!!

I am a very laid back instructor, though the classes are very well structured.

Usually, we progress with a chosen curriculum according to the student's or parent's vision and initial overview during the 1st few classes. However, all curriculums are supplemented to enhance student performance and comprehension. Our supplemental material is used to go swifter for material that you grasp well and understand, and slower with more repetition for that that you need more practice, without being monotonous. It is also used to provide appropriate but exciting reinforcement of all material to ensure that material is retained.

We are forever updating material and also incorporate games and enhanced activities to keep lessons interesting and refreshing as well!

I also have experience in teaching autistic, ADD, ADHD and those with varying degrees of brain damage.

I'm in a country band where I sing and play guitar.

About Ben
Hello, my name is Ben and GUITAR IS MY BUSINESS...AND MY BUSINESS IS GOOD so please consider me. I've been playing guitar for over 18 years and have been in playing bands for 12 years. Recently after the band broke up, I decided to further my education and went to Musicians Institute in Hollywood California. There I was taught by the best guitar players in the world. Marty Friedman, Paul Gilbert, Scott Henderson, Tommy Emmanuel and Johnny Hiland were just a few of the great players who gave clinics there. I received a degree in Guitar Performance and the knowledge I received there made me UNDERSTAND the mystery that is the guitar.

I can teach Rock/Metal, Country (lead and rhythm), Blues, Alternative, Acoustic, Classical, Chord Melody, Melodic Soloing, Twang, Chords, Scales, Modes, Many different lead and rhythm techniques a
nd more importantly any song you want to go over.

I feel learning to play your favorite songs is the most important and the most fun about guitar playing. After playing songs, some of the information given (scales, chords, theory, ear-training) starts to make some since and you begin to slowly figure the guitar out.

Theory and Ear-training I feel are very important to learn when trying to understand music. It just gives you a basic mathematical way of understanding how music works. It can be very frustrating to learn and takes some time to sink in so if you don't want to learn it then that is great. Ear-training is cool because when you start to understand it you can actually hear music and not just listen to it. You can listen to a chord progression on the radio and go home and play it and also improvise over it.

I encourage BEGINNERS through EXPERT to at least hear what I have to say. I have A LOT of information to give about the guitar. I played for ten years made 2 demo CDs, one full length album, another demo specifically for Metal Blade Records, was in a big cover band and so I thought I knew it all and was a great guitar player. Then I went to GUITAR SCHOOL in Hollywood and reality hit me.
I wasn't as good as I thought. When you hear the best guitar players in the world everyday for a year and a half like I did at Musicians Institute it makes you want to be better and practice, practice, practice. I learned everything there about guitar and music and I know the Right way to teach.

Please consider me for your guitar teacher I will make it fun and a good learning experience as well.

Thank you,
Ben

It depends on what level the student is on and that is where we will go with the lesson. If you are a beginner we will start with the very basics. I try to make it to where you can easily understand everything taught. The most important part of the lesson is you are having fun with playing the guitar and also getting as much information as possible. Upper level students may want to go over a song they are learning or want to know about theory or chords. Usually we will talk about where you are at with your playing and then go from there.

Thanks.

*** Specialties ***

Teaching practical classical tips to develop the ear and the voice in order to perform various popular styles of music.

About Joel
I started playing recognizable melodies on the piano at 18 months old. At that time I was told that I even had perfect pitch. By age 5, my mother started giving me classical, gospel, and improvisational lessons. I was one of her 50 students until my senior year in high school. Through elementary, junior high, and high school, I received a lot of performance experience from school marching/concert bands, choirs, church choirs, piano concerts, band/choral conducting, and composing.

I received my BBA in Finance from the University of Texas at Arlington; through college and to the present, I have received over 25 years of performing/directing experience from overseeing two mega-church music ministries. At these ministries, I served as the department head, responsible for lead piano, directing, arranging, worship leading, and departmen
tal oversight.

I have produced 10 personal instrumental projects, and I have produced and recorded over 40 projects for other local, regional, and international artists. I currently travel with national, jazz, recording saxophonist, Joseph Vincelli, and my personal band Zamar. We have performed with a number of acts from Kirk Franklin, Darren Rahn, Kirk Whalum, Boney James, Fred Hammond, and many more.

As an instructor, I have been blessed with an ability to be relatable, relevant, musical, creative, fun, and engaging. I understand the language of music as a performer, and instructor, but most importantly, I value the ability to help the student find their own path of learning the joy of making music vocally and instrumentally. With over 18 years of private teaching experience and 30 years of group experience, I have gained a wealth of knowledge on how to be instructive and personal with the young or older beginner, intermediate and even advanced players. Let's grow together musically.

*** Lesson Details ***
My teaching style is very laid back, although goal-oriented. We have fun while seeing progress. For piano, I typically use the Alfred Series "Alfred Basics 1 - 6" or the Adult All-in-One for the Older Beginner. In the first 3 - 6 months, one will become familiar with basis technics and concepts behind creating music. These concepts will be the foundation behind learning how to read music, play by ear, and create your own songs in any style.

We would move a little faster for the older beginner and work through the Alfred's All in One in conjunction with introducing my 5 steps to performance for any popular style. These steps have been very valuable for those that are wanting to play piano, guitar, bass, or even sing.

For vocalist, I work through Estelle Liebling, Vocal Course, Alfred Piano (as an instrumental reference) and a number of practical performance techniques that I have gained over the years to sing in more of a pop, jazz, gospel setting. We will work on performance techniques and develop the ear to gain confidence to perform in various popular settings. I will also introduce creative ways to make up original music using basic theory and ear training.

I have been singing as long as I can remember and teaching for more than 20 years.

Because the voice is uniquely individual, my approach to each student is strictly based on their needs as a vocalist. I listen to each student and develop a program for development based on the needs I hear as well as the desires of the student.

Of course, good technique is universal and there are some exercised I use with all of my vocalists to develop good habits.

About Lisa
I have been a music teacher and private lesson instructor for the past 20 years. I have a bachelor of science degree in Music Education and hold a teaching certificate for all-level Music Education. In my private studio I have taught students from 3-70 and have enjoyed them all! In addition to teaching music I also serve as the Music Minister for my church. Students coming to me can expect a tremendous amount of experience as well as a committed, honest and caring teacher.

*** Lesson Details ***
For beginning piano students at the pre-reading level (ages 3-6ish) I like to use the Faber "My First Piano Adventure" series. I love that this series enforces solid technique in a fun, child-friendly way.

For older beginners and players with some piano I like the Alfred series, supplemented, of course, with songs/styles of music that i
nterest the student.

Guitar: I've found that guitar method books are nearly as diverse as the guitarists that play them! That being said, I typically start with the Essential Elements for guitar for a solid introduction to music reading and a touch of theory.

Depending on the style of play the guitarist is interested in I move on from there. Mel Bays Classical method is always a solid choice as is the Christopher Parkening Guitar method. I also have a few tab oriented books and some rock/blues oriented books.

For clarinet and oboe students I like to compliment what their band/orchestra director is using when possible. I also love the Klose method for clarinet. The Rubank is also a tried and true book I use. I've had a lot of success with these books.

Of course the best method books are for naught without adequate practice time! When theory and technique work get too dry it's always fun to throw in some fun selections to compliment the "work."

Voice students are a bit different in that I don't use a specific method to instruct. I have many books that I draw from when teaching voice due to the unique nature of the individual. Depending on the style of music, from classical to jazz/pop, I have music that will teach proper breath support, vowel placement and tone.

Michelle was so excited when she finished her first lesson and said, "Mrs. Lisa is just like my Aunt Jenn.. She is sweet, kind, she encouraged me and made me feel like I could learn to play my guitar."

I start every lesson with vocal warm-ups. Then we learn different techniques to increase range, posture, and breathing. I can make song recommends and we work on songs that the student wants to learn. I set up video for my students to see and hear themselves. I accompany the student on either the piano or the guitar.

About Melody
My musical experience began at the age of 4 on the piano. I have been classically trained for most of my life. I have performed on soundtracks, played with bands (in genres from Jazz to Metal), and accompanied choirs. I have taught intro to piano and music theory since the age of 15. Currently, I teach throughout the Dallas metroplex, play in several bands, as well as write music for Television and Film.

I see music as a language. Once it is mastered, it can be shared with anyone, anywhere. My goal as an instructor is to provide my students with an opportunity to discover their own musical potentials. From breaking the ice from playing for the very first time, to perfecting even the most structured and difficult pieces, I feel there are no limits. I feel comfortable teaching in any genre and always tailor my classes to match my studen
ts own individual learning style. In my lessons, I highlight important principles right from the start, such as posture, proper fingering, and rhythm training, to ensure no bad habits form that later are hard to break. As we become more confident in our playing, we transfer some of the traits contained within us. Those traits become the character and style of our "musical speech," which will help to define us as musicians. I recommend books and provide sheet music when we start learning songs. Learning music with me has been said by many of my students as, "the most fun they have ever had playing music."

In addition to music, I teach science in the subjects of Chemistry, Biology, Anatomy and Physiology. I have my 200 hr yoga teaching certification and teach private class to aid people in living a healthy, fulfilling life.

Thanks again for reading my profile. Hope to meet you soon.

I am passionate about bringing out the artist and music lover in all of my students. I am vocal coach, but also an active performer and recording artist in the rock/pop/R&B/metal genres. I tackle the styles or genres that the student is interested in while implementing healthy vocal hygiene and practice rituals. I have and utilize extensive knowledge of music theory in order to teach students how to understand and perform harmony and melodic improvisation. I work to make my students gain a refined and powerful, yet unique voice. My studio comes with connections to professional audio engineers and videographers for when a student may want any recordings or media done. I also assist with songwriting for students interested. I want to bring out the best in you as both a person and a musician!

I do audition coaching and actor training as well.

About Anthony
