I am a very laid back instructor, though the classes are very well structured.

Usually, we progress with a chosen curriculum according to the student's or parent's vision and initial overview during the 1st few classes. However, all curriculums are supplemented to enhance student performance and comprehension. Our supplemental material is used to go swifter for material that you grasp well and understand, and slower with more repetition for that that you need more practice, without being monotonous. It is also used to provide appropriate but exciting reinforcement of all material to ensure that material is retained.

We are forever updating material and also incorporate games and enhanced activities to keep lessons interesting and refreshing as well!

I also have experience in teaching autistic, ADD, ADHD and those with varying degrees of brain damage.

About Wendy
With music programs being eliminated from many school's education, I feel it is even more important than ever for children, off all ages, to participate in some form of musical experience. Being a piano teacher for over twenty five years, I have seen many benefits for those taking music lessons. Some of these benefits are building self esteem and confidence, learning to focus, developing mental discipline, overcoming the fear of getting up in front of crowds, not to mention being able to play songs that we enjoy.

My philosophy of music is that you don't have to be an expert to be able to enjoy playing an instrument. It is not that difficult to learn to play piano or guitar; it just takes a little time and effort. I believe that practicing doesn't have to be hours a day either, unless you want to be a concert pianist or guitari
st, but you can accomplish a lot with 15 to 30 minutes of practice each day. There is time to fit music in with many other activities that we like to do. So keep that in mind as you are deciding how you can fit music lessons into your daily schedule.

I studied guitar for five years, then began to take piano lessons which continued through many years of my life. I studied under many classical teachers, and teaching methods such as Royal Conservatory of Music and Western Board. These lessons also included Music Theory. As I developed as a musician, I began to play piano and guitar in churches for worship services. I also accompanied soloists, both vocal and instrumental, and played for many special events such as weddings, funerals, graduations, etc. Eventually, I stepped into music ministry, which included planning music for church services, working with children's music programs, leading, rehearsing, and directing choirs etc. I have taught choir and music theory in schools over the years, as well.

At some point in my life, I decided it was important for me to go for a music degree. This degree gave me four years of classical vocal training, more classical piano instruction, and ensemble work. It also gave me more experience with directing choirs and orchestras.

My formal education is: Bachelor of Arts in Music Ministry with Applied Music.

Church Piano Certification

College Level Music Theory and Classical Voice

*** Lesson Details ***
When taking lessons from me, students can expect to work hard, but have lots of fun. Their music training will be very detailed and will include all aspects of learning music. In addition to learning how to read music and play piano or guitar well, students will learn theory and technic. Theory teaches students the understanding of how music is written; this will assist them in the future is their interests turn to writing and arranging music. Technique is the exercises for their fingers which teaches them control and agility. I accept students of all ages and abilities up to advanced intermediate levels in piano, guitar, and music theory. I accept beginning vocal students.

Piano lessons consist of learning to play and read music. Students can expect to be classically trained, but will also get to choose and play songs or musical styles that they enjoy. Theory and technique will be included in their study program.

Guitar lessons consist of learning how to play both notes and chords, and how to read both notes and chords, as well as lead sheets specifically written for guitar. Students will also learn the written theory for guitar. I like to include extra books of songs or music styles that the students like. This encourages them to learn and practice because they are playing something that they know and like to play.

Beginning classical vocal students will learn basic breathing technics, vocal exercises and will sings a variety of songs. I don't start out with classical vocal unless that is what the student wants. I let them choose music that they like to sing, as we can learn and practice vocal concepts with all types of music. I encourage vocal students to take at least basic piano lessons, so they can learn to read and understand musical concepts.

Music theory goes along with any instrument and vocal instruction. Piano theory is the basis for all music theory. I have the ability to teach through college level theory for those that are interested in writing or arranging music or wanting to have this level of theory to go along with their musical instrument.

Practice times start at 15 minutes a day, 5 days a week for beginners. As students progress, their practice time increases. Advanced beginners will practice 30 minutes a day, early intermediate level will practice 45 minutes a day, and intermediate level will practice at least 1 hour a day.

I encourage students to take one lesson a week for 1/2 hour. As they advance, then this may increase to a 45 minute lesson, once a week, then perhaps 1 hour once a week as needed.

After 3 months, beginning students will be able to play simple folk songs with right hand melody and left hand accompaniment. At 6 months, students will have learned 3 different positions or keys on the piano, will be playing songs that are a little more complex, and can now add supplemental fun books to their lessons. I encourage my students to participate in two recitals a year. I try to make this a fun, not a stressful, time for them. I also encourage family and friends to attend and cheer on the students. If students wish to compete in music competitions or adjudications, I can assist them in doing so, as well.

There are studio locations in Colorado Springs, Colorado 80917 and Falcon, Colorado 80831

*** Studio Equipment ***

*** Travel Equipment ***

*** Specialties ***
Classical piano is my strengths; however, I can teach any style from christian to contemporary to jazz. Vocal styles are basic classical, modern, and christian. Guitar styles include basic instruction on learning to play guitar, chording, fingerpicking, using different positions on the finger board. I can teach beginning to college level music theory.

About Joel
I started playing recognizable melodies on the piano at 18 months old. At that time I was told that I even had perfect pitch. By age 5, my mother started giving me classical, gospel, and improvisational lessons. I was one of her 50 students until my senior year in high school. Through elementary, junior high, and high school, I received a lot of performance experience from school marching/concert bands, choirs, church choirs, piano concerts, band/choral conducting, and composing.

I received my BBA in Finance from the University of Texas at Arlington; through college and to the present, I have received over 25 years of performing/directing experience from overseeing two mega-church music ministries. At these ministries, I served as the department head, responsible for lead piano, directing, arranging, worship leading, and departmen
tal oversight.

I have produced 10 personal instrumental projects, and I have produced and recorded over 40 projects for other local, regional, and international artists. I currently travel with national, jazz, recording saxophonist, Joseph Vincelli, and my personal band Zamar. We have performed with a number of acts from Kirk Franklin, Darren Rahn, Kirk Whalum, Boney James, Fred Hammond, and many more.

As an instructor, I have been blessed with an ability to be relatable, relevant, musical, creative, fun, and engaging. I understand the language of music as a performer, and instructor, but most importantly, I value the ability to help the student find their own path of learning the joy of making music vocally and instrumentally. With over 18 years of private teaching experience and 30 years of group experience, I have gained a wealth of knowledge on how to be instructive and personal with the young or older beginner, intermediate and even advanced players. Let's grow together musically.

*** Lesson Details ***
My teaching style is very laid back, although goal-oriented. We have fun while seeing progress. For piano, I typically use the Alfred Series "Alfred Basics 1 - 6" or the Adult All-in-One for the Older Beginner. In the first 3 - 6 months, one will become familiar with basis technics and concepts behind creating music. These concepts will be the foundation behind learning how to read music, play by ear, and create your own songs in any style.

We would move a little faster for the older beginner and work through the Alfred's All in One in conjunction with introducing my 5 steps to performance for any popular style. These steps have been very valuable for those that are wanting to play piano, guitar, bass, or even sing.

For vocalist, I work through Estelle Liebling, Vocal Course, Alfred Piano (as an instrumental reference) and a number of practical performance techniques that I have gained over the years to sing in more of a pop, jazz, gospel setting. We will work on performance techniques and develop the ear to gain confidence to perform in various popular settings. I will also introduce creative ways to make up original music using basic theory and ear training.

I teach my students how to understand how music is put together so they can learn even more on their own.

I read, write, and play all styles and I focus on teaching the student fundamentals that work in all styles of music ....AND I get them going on the style they are interested in - pop, rock, country, folk, etc.

I have spent my entire life in the music industry and I can show you how to use what I teach to apply to the real world. I have also been a successful songwriter and I can work with students to learn about song structure and song writing.

I am also good at preparing students for college music classes.

I like to break it down into small steps and accomplish them, then move on to the next.

Each person learns differently and I am good at connecting with how you learn - then we can use a boo
k or CD or not according to your needs.

I have several books to choose from as well as CDs and other tools. BUT .....some things are learned best through 1 on 1 instruction and explanation without a book.

I like to see progress every week and I usually do.

I am a singer-pianist-actor Or a pianist-singer-actor. :-)
I have a bachelors degree in voice performance and a minor in piano and theater.
I have a masters degree in voice as well as a second masters in piano literature.
i have a certificate in comedy improvisation from Second City and am a professional actor. I am the owner and senior talent agent of a large talent agency in the DFW area.
My post graduate work is in vocal pedagogy.
I have been a professional teacher and performer for over 20 years.
I own and manage a professional talent agency in the DFW area.
My students come in every model imaginable - and I wouldn't have it any other way. Raw beginner or veteran actor or musician, professional recording artist, College music major or American Idol wannabe.

The arts are such a great language for communicating. I grew up
with two parents who were professional musicians (mom is a concert pianist) and I also raised 3 children who are professional musicians. We made music our native language in our home. We all have the ability to speak music when it is spoken to us. I don’t ever remember not playing the piano. I started winning piano competitions in high school. I minored in piano, and then did additional post graduate work in piano. I “speak” piano. It has served me so well as a teacher, composer, opera coach. It is really a gateway to understanding all other instruments. The same scenario with my singing.

I began my professional career as an opera singer which has taken me around the world. I have premiered works by Leonard Bernstein and Samuel Adler in addition to principal roles and concert work with Pittsburgh Opera, The Pittsburgh Symphony, Dayton Opera, the Tuscia Opera Festival and hundreds of professional engagements. I have also had the wonderful opportunity to belt the National Anthem for several major league teams in a television appearance- and has done so on multiple occasions. (Pittsburgh Pirates, Pittsburgh Penguins, Pittsburgh Steelers, Cincinnati Reds) I am passionate about vocal jazz and musical theater and am frequently found as a performer in various national and regional venues. Feature concert works include PBS (Gershwin in Concert) as well as featured solo concert works (Pergolesi Stabat Mater) on Italian Public TV.

My approach to music has always been to do what you love. I have never limited myself as a performer to a genre or an instrument. I have explored, applied myself to and enjoyed a very diverse musical career. If you have a passion for an instrument or style of music let's start there first... and then let's discover together all the things you do that uniquely define your musicianship style.

Your lessons will always be engaging, challenging and fun!

I am very consistent in my approach to technique, my focus on goals and my demand for excellence. I constantly am working to access with you what your goals are and to provide feedback and support to help you achieve them.

I am very flexible in utilizing a wide variety of repertoire, resources etc. Your lessons are personalized to your skill set and your musical interests. I utilize audio and video recordings almost every week for all my students. I routinely promote and encourage my students to participate in a wide variety of competitions, recitals, workshops and master classes.

I have a very low turnover rate for students and a very high rate of students who have progressed to professional full time careers in music. Students like being a part of my studio and really like the confidence they have in their music abilities in a very short period of time.

I do not use the same curriculum for all students, in face, each curriculum is customized for that student. The components are similar: technique, repertoire, theory, listening, composing, recording and performing.

You can expect the following:You will feel very encouraged and supported in your talent. You will have measurable improvement in your skills. You will have a personal advocate to encourage and direct you in finding and creating opportunities to succeed in your music personally, academically and professionally.

I can't wait to get started!

Music has been a very important part of my life for a long time. I began taking piano lessons at age 9 and also started as a church musician that same year. Some people would say I was a very fast learner! I was, and still am, very interested in every aspect of music. I began singing in church and school a few years after that. I have played and performed a variety of styles of music but I have the most experience with Christian music, classical, pop and R & B. I am confident that I can teach you whatever style you are interested in! I am currently a high school choral director and a minister of music for church. I also play in a band with a group of my co-workers where we perform mostly pop, rock and oldies. I have been doing private lessons since I was in high school and have taught school music for 25 years. I've taught genera
l education, choir, band and general music. I also do some composing.

I attended Jarvis Christian College (1984-1989) where I majored in All-Level Music Education. I received a Bachelor of Science in Education degree in May of 1989.

After I was hired at my first school, I started working on additional certification at Texas Christian University and Texas Wesleyan University. I completed the required subjects and received certification in general education in 1991. I am currently certified in 3 areas: General Music 1-8, All-Level Music K-12 and General Education 1-8.

I believe that all students can and will learn something if they put forth some effort! I also believe that learning music should be fun! I'm a pretty laid back person but I am very serious about my time and yours being well spent! I use a method book for piano lessons, as well as, a variety of other materials based on your interest and level. I also use a variety of materials for voice lessons. At the first lesson I will find out what your goals for learning music are. I will also find out what types of music you are interested in and we'll go from there! I do believe in challenging students. I do expect you to sincerely want to learn and to demonstrate your interest through weekly practice and attendance at your lessons.

Ms. Brookins is an excellent teacher. Although I had a few ideas of how to sing, I had no idea how technical it was. As far back as I can remember I have always enjoyed performing music. I can remember during my elementary school years how I would play drums during church service. Some days I would sneak in my dad's closet to play his saxophone. I began learning how to play saxophone in middle school and by the time I was in high school I was learning piano, performing jazz, and composing music.
I went on to get a Bachelor of Music at the University of North Texas. I have been performing professionally for over 18 years. I also have taught band for 11 years in Dallas ISD. I enjoy teaching and mentoring other up and coming musicians. It's a joy to see another world open up to them through music.
Through my warm and positive personality and experience as a certified music teacher and music performer, I understand how to meet the social and education

About Jacqueline
If you're looking for a well-rounded music teacher who can give you the right tools for improving singing and musicianship in a safe and positive environment, you've come to the right place!

I have taught students from 5 to 27, but I can certainly teach older adult beginners. I am passionate about singing, teaching, and inspiring my students so they can enjoy music and singing for years to come. I work in a very sequential manner from a pedagogical standpoint and tailor each lesson to meet the needs of each student individually so that they can truly feel like they are musicians and that they have the proper tools to sing -- because success breeds success! I believe in the beauty of each student's voice I work with and that all students deserve a high quality music teacher. It is an honor and a privilege to help my students - no matt
er what they age - realize their potential, and I am blessed to have the opportunity to do so through music.

*** Lesson Details ***
More lesson times may be available than what is shown. Please send me a message if you would like to find out about other times.

Some examples of goals I can help you with:
- Improving singing technique
- Learning about vocal health
- Developing musicianship
- Learning music theory / how to read music
- Increasing self-awareness of bodily tension and how to release it

When you arrive for our first lesson, I'll start by asking you to sing a couple vocal exercises so I can listen carefully to your voice and how I can help you. I will also assess your ability to keep a steady beat, match pitch, and other basic music skills so we can move forward and see progress!

I always start with a strong foundation in the basics of singing and musicianship. After we spend at least two lessons simply establishing singing technique and going through exercises for singing, I will introduce music that is appropriate for your level of development. To help develop your basic musicianship skills, I use a sound-before-symbol approach, so we will not be reading music until you have demonstrated progress in your aural skills.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Spacious area with a mirror and a digital, weighted, 88-key piano

*** Policies ***
I expect students to be punctual. I will not make up time that was lost due to student tardiness, but I will always make up any time lost on my part. I will always let you know at least 24 hours in advance whether I have to cancel a lesson and I will always make it up on a future mutually convenient date.

Parents or friends may sit and watch and/or take notes for the student, but any visitors must be silent throughout the entire lesson so as not to be a distraction to the student; s/he has to be fully focused in order to get as much out of the lesson as possible. I HIGHLY encourage the older beginner student to bring a recording device to record our lesson to study the vocal exercises in personal practice sessions after our lesson.

*** Specialties ***
I have learned solid classical vocal technique from the very best, and I believe my older beginner students deserve the same tools. (My teacher has had many students that have gone on to have very successful singing careers, all over the United States and some internationally.) As a singer, I have over ten years’ performance experience as a chorister and soloist and four years' experience in singing opera/musical theatre. I am a classically trained pianist, and also have experience conducting choirs from the elementary level to the high school level.

I am a member of many professional music organizations so you know I am not just a performer but am also committed to being the best music teacher/pedagogue I can be. Please see below for the professional organizations I am a member of. I frequently attend conferences and read many professional music journals. My personal music teaching philosophy is based on the music pedagogies of Zoltan Kodaly, Edwin Gordon, and Karl Orff.

My music philosophy:
1. Music is for everyone. Anyone can learn how to sing beautifully and be a musician! However, it takes time and hard work to see progress. I want to give you the right tools (proper singing technique and basic musicianship skills) to help you foster a love of singing for years to come.
2. Mastering the basics of singing and learning about vocal health is crucial! Whatever your goals, starting with and maintaining a good technique with consistent practice will keep you from injury so you can enjoy singing for a long time.
3. The more well-rounded you are as a musician, the better. In ALL singing lessons, I embed aspects of music theory and ear-training appropriate to your level so that you can have a holistic music education and be an independent, thinking musician.
4. Music is meant to be a beautiful expression of your heart and soul! While good technique and musicianship are very important, that is only half the story. At every stage, I work to help students connect with the music inside them so they feel safe and free to express their natural and artistic sensitivity.
5. Listening is vital to understanding music! Students can expect listen to recordings of music and singers to gain insight to and understanding of style. I encourage my students to listen to or watch recordings to work on the more organic elements of music, which cannot be gained from academic study.
