Hi! My my name is Shelby and I can't wait to work with you!

I graduated from Saint Michael's College in Vermont with my Bachelor's in Musical Theatre and am now pursuing my Master's Degree in Drama Therapy with Lesley University. 
I have worked with companies including Saint Michael's Playhouse, Cape Rep Theatre Company, and Barrington Stage Company. I was a member of the inaugural Musical Theatre Conservatory at Barrington Stage Company. My work as an actor and choreographer has been recognized by the Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival, including a nomination for the Richard Maltby Jr. Award. My choreography was also featured at the Vermont College Dance Festival for 2 consecutive years. 

My passion is coaching specific pieces for auditions, recitals, concerts, etc., although I do provide comprehensive vocal and acting training. I believe in finding material that suites you, not changing you to fit into the material. You are a unique, individual performer and my goal is always to highlight that! My style of coaching is quick, direct, and high-energy. I am often found jumping up and down and celebrating my students' successes as they are going through a piece. We are in this process together!

Developing a character is a key part of performance. In this 45 minute class, students will engage in a process that guides them through character development. The work includes enrolling in the character, embodiment, understanding character wants and needs, character interviews, and derolling. Students are welcome to bring in a character from a show or monologue they are currently working on, have worked on in the past, or create a character of their own to explore.

I've have taken a couple of classes with Shelby now for my speaking voice and she is awesome! She's a knowledgeable and enthusiastic teacher. Shelby's classes have a comfortable environment that encourages learning. Would highly recommend her!

My daughter absolutely loved her and was easily able to apply the corrections and coaching to her songs.  She is looking forward to their next lesson together.

She worked on breathing exercises and helped me with practicing sirens! VERYYY FUN CLASS.

In just one lesson Shelby taught me so much! She really knows her stuff! She is a very supportive and encouraging teacher and coach. I really enjoy the way Shelby helps me work through my songs. She always starts with the technique and making sure I am able to sing the song. Then we work on stylizing the piece and the acting component. She has so many tips and tricks to get those high notes! I love working with Shelby and plan to continue doing so.

Shelby is extremely versatile and can play a wide range of genres and styles. She has a phenomenal singing voice and is skillful at interpreting music and lyrics. She knows how to make bold artistic choices that enable her to express the music and the words in a song with dramatic intention, clarity and nuance. Shelby is dedicated to the discipline involved in developing her craft. She is mature, considerate and has a wonderful sense of humor.

Shelby was super helpful! She picked great pieces for my audition and got them better than I could have expected. She is detail-oriented and picked up on little moments that made my package even better! She even took the time to help me film the monologue and song so that I would have it to send in for auditions. I can't wait to work with Shelby again!
