Welcome!

My name is Julia, and I'm an actor, director, and teaching artist from Philadelphia, PA. I hold a degree in theatre and acting from Temple University, where I was trained by professional actors in the industry such as Amina Robinson (Precious, 2009) and Cheryl Williams (Silver Linings Playbook, 2012). My favorite roles include: Hermia in A Midsummer Night's Dream, Babette in The Arsonists, and Violet in Prude.

My goal as a teaching artist is to help actors trust themselves, trust the process, and foster their individuality. I promote a positive and safe environment where actors can fully explore their characters and creativity. 

I started coaching monologues in college because I wanted to help fellow actors gain control of their audition. Monologues can be tricky, and I want to help actors enjoy them! I also work on scenes with my students, as well as business coaching. 

In my free time, I enjoy painting (poorly), reading, and going on picnics.

I travel to grade schools to perform in student-written plays so students can improve their work. I provide feedback, foster conversations about theater and writing, and help students perform. I teach basic acting techniques to help students boost their confidence.

Classroom Actor

I coach students on monologues and scenes so they can improve their auditions and self-tapes. I help them with material selection if needed, material breakdown, character breakdown, performance techniques, exercises, and much more. My students leave with not only an incredible piece, but also a more in-depth understanding of acting and character work. 

The theater techniques I use to teach acting and coach monologues include: Stanislavski, Meisner, Uta Hagen, and Michael Chekhov. I promote a positive and safe environment for actors to explore their character and creativity.

My lessons with Julia have been the highlight of my week.  I had never taken acting lessons before and Julia went above and beyond my expectations.  She is a thoughtful and considerate teacher.  She started by asking about my goals and sending over some material that I felt was catered to my style and specific goals.  I have found these lessons to not only have improved my acting, but have also helped me in my daily life.  She incorporates a meditative warm up and her empathy and encouragement have helped me to feel more comfortable getting into my body and taking up space when speaking both while acting and in life.

Julia has been teaching me for quite a while now and she has been the greatest teacher I have had. She has taught me so much in such a little amount of time. She makes me feel comfortable while acting, which I find is an amazing quality for a teacher. She also acknowledges how I feel on certain scenes and takes. She is definitely a great teacher.

Julia truly wants to make sure you feel comfortable and prepared for your audition. She also just wants you to have fun. These qualities are phenomenal in a teacher and I could not have found someone more enthusiastic to help me and that I’m more enthusiastic to work with.

Julia has been teaching me for a while now and all I can say is that she is the best acting instructor I could ask for. She has taught me everything I know about acting and she is just overall a great person. Julia is super kind and makes me feel comfortable. I never got tired of the monologue we were working on, thanks to Julia. She is great with monologue work and teaches many different ways to do it. I definitely recommend Julia! :)

Julia has been helping me with my acting for a little while now and I already can see my own improvement! She always gives me tips, pointers and corrections during our time but in a way where I feel supported! Her constructive feedback is always helpful and she is so encouraging when I actually nail a scene. She recently helped me with a self tape and I have to say, with her guidance I think it was my best acting to date! I would highly recommend Julia!

Julia was the best instructor I could have asked for, being that I just started. She helped me understand the process in acting and helped me work on a lot of monologues to get better and find exactly what I want to do. Always punctual and was easy to reschedule if I had any days I couldn't make it.
