Acting

The process of unlocking, discovering, and understanding your body and voice is an intimate and exciting process. I love to partner with my students on this journey; I have been so lucky to have incredible teachers in my life who give me so much inspiration. 

I've worked with complete beginners to working professionals, and I strive to create a welcoming and nurturing learning environment where it is safe to learn, practice, and be vulnerable. I also believe that singing should be fun!

I completed my Master of Music from Mannes School of Music in New York City and have two bachelor's degrees: a Bachelor of Music in Voice from Pacific Lutheran University and a Bachelor of Arts in Anthropology from Pacific Lutheran University.

Lessons will be completely individualized within the framework that we mutually agree on together. We will work collaboratively to meet your goals and find your unique voice. Have you ever thought to yourself "oh no, what do I do with my hands?!"
Singing can be challenging enough, but adding acting into the mix can feel even more daunting sometimes. Together we will go over acting techniques and discuss how those can be incorporated into seamless performances. 

The course will include live performances in which students can receive individual feedback. Additionally, watching each other can be a great learning tool! The class will be a supportive and welcoming environment for everybody, so bring your songs and let's work on them together! 

Acting for Singers

Marissa is an excellent teacher. She has been teaching my eleven-year-old who is just starting out with voice (and was feeling very nervous). Marissa did a great job of helping her feel at ease, and working with her. She says that Marissa is always kind and friendly and she's learning a lot.

I had never taken a voice lesson in my life prior to working with Marissa. Wow, what a fantastic instructor. She has taught me more than I ever thought was possible, and she is also such a genuine and supportive teacher. The absolute best.

Marissa helped me prepare for community theatre auditions, and I cannot recommend her enough.

I took several singing lessons with Marissa this summer and had so much fun! My goals were to better understand important aspects of using your voice as an instrument- gaining better control and breathing techniques. I learned a lot and gained confidence in my singing.  I would love to take lessons with Marissa again in the future!

Lessons are my favorite part of quarantine. Marissa has such a warm and welcoming personality that has encouraged me to keep working towards my goals.

I studied with Marissa for two years when we both lived in the same area she moved and I went off to college. She is such a positive, kind and hard-working teacher. On the rare occasion that she doesn't know something, she does her homework and comes back with a novel of information. If I was ever unsure about a concept and none of her (many) techniques worked, she would always heavily research before the next lesson. She was always great at communicating with her students and goes above and beyond. She has a great reputation and was able to help me get into my dream college. My voice teacher here is very impressed with what I have learned from her.
