There are multiple approaches to studying Flamenco guitar, depending on the ultimate goal. In the simplest you just learn some techniques and scales to begin or complement your playing. In the more advanced you learn all the intricacies, the details and rules including the structures, "compas", techniques and most advanced "falsetas" or musical segments. Whichever interests you, I would strive to provide you with an understanding and a real foundation. The lessons I offer include some of my own transcriptions of most of the material I teach, including compositions by Paco de Lucia and Sabicas. Flamenco playing will enhance any other forms of guitar playing you may already possess, and will inspire you to reach higher levels.
I started learning Flamenco guitar as a teenager, and this allowed me to experience what is necessary for a young mind to learn and grow in this beautiful art form. Its sounds and techniques captivated me and it is that very beauty what will surely keep you learning, regardless of your musical goa

My favorite. My bread and butter.
I have help clients audition with Shakespeare, directed them, and acted in them for over 15+ years. Shakespeare isn't scary to me, it's beyond fascinating. I've taught it to childen under 8, taught college classes, and directed and acted in many professional productions in NYC. Our approach can be catered to you and also give you tools to take into the audition and rehearsal room.

How to speak clearly with good vocal technique to keep the speaking voice long lasting and healthy
Hello! My name is Serena! Music shapes my life and has made me the person I am today. My experience in training in opera, musical theatre, jazz, and pop has expanded my musical skills and knowledge. Not only have I been trained in performance, but I have also studied music history, music theory
I loved her teaching style! She is calm but also fun for the boy. He loved the warm up exercises. In only 30 minutes of class they were able to play several little pieces. My son could then practice and master them at home. That gave him a sense of accomplishment. This approach is better than working on a hard piece and being frustrated. She focused on sight reading from the start instead of memorizing which is a great habit.

Over the past 12 years, we've given over 3,000,000 lessons to happy customers around the world.
Her techniques and exercises are amazing to watch as the intended result will come out of the student that she is working on. I learned just as much watching other students in the class go through the techniques as I did during my own performances and critiques.
She has a beautiful presence and I instantly felt comfortable around her like I'd known her for a long time. I think that is so important to feel that trust and comfort when opening yourself and exposing things dealing with singing and performing.
I can tell that she is very passionate at what she does and she is VERY GOOD at it as a result. She wants to help people in a positive way and is very encouraging.
I also love how her exercises are not only physical but get you thinking ahead about positive wonderful things that are of your dreams; it helps you to envision and eventually attract the positive things that you dream of. For example, she had us describe our "perfect 24 hour day". That was an amazing concept to me. If you can envision your perfect day and your perfect circumstances, you are so much closer to actually achieving them! These exercises help and instantly translate to better singing and better performing as we witnessed in the class. She is full of these tricks and techniques!
I would highly recommend working with Jan. She has a wealth of experience and wisdom to share with as many students that are lucky enough to work with her."
