I played the sax through high school and then stopped playing until I retired ~ 4 years ago. I started lessons with Julian when he lived nearby and have continued with "skype" lessons since he moved out of the area. He's a great teacher: motivational, thorough knowledge of both classical and jazz, kind, good sense of humor, and a good communicator. I highly recommend him.

I highly recommend Julian as a saxophone teacher. My son started playing saxophone and taking lessons with Julian three years ago, when my son was 9 years old. Julian is patient with my son and has built a good rapport with him. Julian has always encouraged him to try his best and to not be discouraged when he makes mistakes, and that has made my son comfortable with Julian and confident enough to push himself. Also, Julian is reliable and punctual, and is good at communicating through text and email.

As I said in my profile, I play all styles and so I teach all styles. This is an important point as many teachers only teach classical and if you want to learn a song by Sam Smith, the Beatles or perhaps something from "Frozen", they'll say 'buy the sheet music'. I teach music theory (after the fundamentals of music are learned) and if the student desires, he or she can learn how to improvise. This does not mean jazz necessarily, but learning to elaborate on a dull sheet music arrangement.

About David

Greetings, future students. I've been teaching piano for 30 years. I'm a professional pianist working mostly in Manhattan's major hotels. I play all styles of music and so I can teach all styles. Classical (I was accepted to the Juilliard Preparatory School at age 12), pop, jazz, blues, Broadwa

my first lesson with David was great. He makes you feel very comfortable & knows how to highlight the students talents and teach from there. He is also extremely talented. I am looking forward to the rest of my lessons.

Coming back from my third lesson with David, and looking forward for many many more to come. I have been by many teachers before and never had such a good experience. At our first lesson David already knew my strength and weaknesses and together we are working for me to become the "consommé" musician.

I am a Brazilian guitar player who started by playing blues and rock on the electric guitar, and then moved into Samba, Bossa Nova and fingerstyle on the nylon-string guitar. Today, I play mostly Latin styles and a little bit of Flamenco. I also have a year of conservatory training under my belt, as well as a background in West African percussion, and culminate all of these styles together as a composer.

As a teacher, I cater to your aptitude and your goals and make sure that you are having fun while you grow. That means learning actual repertoire of music that you want to study. Some students want more music theory than others: and that's totally fine! But I like to always have a song as a context to study that theory. Afterall, we want to use theory to actually make music!

About Tomas

My name is Tomas. I am a Brazilian-American polyglot musician and language instructor. I play music and teach English/Portuguese for a living, and have been doing so for the past 7 years! I also learned Spanish and French through music, so I know a lot about those languages and the styles of music

"We have had 3 months of piano lessons with Tony for my sons, ages 7 and 9. He is a fantastic teacher! Not only have my kids made great progress with learning how to play the piano, they have also made huge strides in their understanding of music. I am thrilled with how much they have learned in a short time! Getting my kids to practice between lessons was a struggle in the beginning, but this has improved over time because they enjoy their lessons so much. I told them I was writing a review for Tony, and asked for their feedback. They said: "He is nice, and kind, and one of the best teachers ever!" "He is patient and kind, he helps a lot, is very fun, and he wants me to work hard, which is a good thing!""

"To start, I have anxiety and especially when it comes to something as personal as the voice. I am a perfectionist and this is one area that has been a huge issue and is causing a lot of anxiety in me right now. Given that, I think a lot of teachers have sensed that and kinda backed off and tried to fluff me up which is not a good thing for a teacher to do. Eric was super respectable, but didn't let my anxiety keep him from focusing on problem areas and telling me like it is. I took a few days to write this because my nerves keep me from being able to sometimes do what is being asked of me and is more reflected on my time afterwords. Quite a few things I feel have opened up to me of things I had misconceptions of because of his guidance. For example I feel from trying to push with too much effort from my diaphragm I was misplacing my voice to the back which was never mentioned by another teacher. Also from his audio lessons afterwords I was able to research one of the exercises which teaches proper breath control and promotes constant flow. Things feel like they are starting to click well and I feel confident Eric is going to be able to get me to where I need to be."

"Elena teaches our 7 year old daughter acoustic guitar and voice for a few months now. Within those few months our daughter has learned so much. Elena makes sure the goals that are set are met and makes it so much fun while doing so. As our daughter progresses, Elena makes it a little more challenging but not to the point where it gets frustrating. Our daughter LOVES her and so do we. Elena is all what we expected in a teacher and more. Definitely recommend her!"
