Dancing since the age of 3, I'd love to spark the passion of dance in anyone that's interested! With a Bachelors of Fine Arts with a concentration in Ballet Pedagogy (the art or science of teaching) this is what I've trained to do.
I specialize in Ballet, Modern and Jazz ages 5-18 beginner to advanced students. I focus on strong foundations in technique and musicality. I am also comfortable choreographing solo work for auditions.
I started dancing at the age of 3. I am well versed in Ballet, Modern and Jazz. I attended Joffrey San Antonio (2004) and Paul Taylor New York (2010) intensives.
While in high school I taught Ballet, Jazz, Pre-Pointe and Pointe classes to dancers age 3-14.
In 2011 I graduated from the University of Oklahoma with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Ballet Pedagogy (which is the art or science of teaching).
Since moving to NYC 5 years ago I have been focused on performing with such dance companies as Exit 12 Dance Company (2011-2012) and Community Dance Project (2013-2014). While not dancing with specific companies I have choreographed and danced in two music videos.
I can't express my love for teaching enough! To know that I could help spark the passion of dance in a young person is extremely inspiring.
I would prefer to teach students with professional or aerobic goals. Social dancing is not one of my subjects.

My specialty is teaching tap as a musical instrument. For me, the movement serves the sound rather than a visual effect. No matter if you're a beginning, intermediate or advanced student, you will discover the potential of the human body to help internalize musical concepts such as phrasing, form, improvisation, and self-expression, as well as gain organic access to complex musical structures. Whether your focus is on building tap dance skills, seeking to connect body and mind in a profound and musical way, or are a musician who wants to become more connected and physically involved with the groove within - you are in the right place with me. The tap steps are merely tools to access your unique voice. My tap lessons combine technique, improvisation, and combinations with mindfulness, breathing, and body awareness exercises. Find the groove that is within you!
My performance credits include Thomas Marek's show NOLA, the sound art/tap performance Homöostep, the Tap Ahead Festival, and Daniel Luka's T.A.P. My current main project is Neosole, which explores tap as a music instrument, as a full member of the rhythm section, not just soloing as a gimmick on top of the music, but being fully integrated, comping and providing a foundation for the musical context.
I have been invited to teach at renowned facilities such as tanzhaus nrw, tap club, and Rebeltanz, and to be a tap dancer in residence at Thomas Marek's Studio Footprints.
My artistic works have been featured in publications such as Average Art, The Tap Love Tour Podcast, What Moves You, and Not Random Art.
I first started tap dancing at the age of 10 under the direction of my Mom.
I consider myself a musician, and the tap shoes are my instrument. My style is deeply rooted in the aesthetic of jazz music and heavily shaped by playing in numerous jam sessions around Europe and New York City, however, my art transcends the boundaries of genres. It is merely a tool to create the most genuine and sophisticated expression possible. A catalyst to explore art as an extension of the human experience.
I call myself a tap dance musician because neither dance nor music could exist without the other. However, I don't move to look a certain way, I move to sound a certain way.
I tailor the sessions to the participants desired result and personality. I am very flexible, open, reliable and will use both of our experiences to create a space for exploration and celebration. I always make sure participants feel comfortable and empowered. I have a lot of experience in different genres of dance, fitness, choreography and much more and as a result I have a lot of insight and joy to offer.

I love dance because it gives me a way to express my emotions and it gives me confidence to be in control of my body in a way that only dance can make me feel. Dance also is a way of making music visual which is a wonderful form of art. And of course...it is so much fun!

Hi there! My name is Aqeela (or Ms. Kiki for kids) and I am a professional dancer with over 20 years of experience. I have lived in LA and worked professionally in the industry. My dance credits include Nick Cannon, Beyonce, Sean Paul, and Kat de Luna. I have appeared on the Ellen show as well as Hulu. Aside from dance, I also have extensive experience teaching children. I went to school for Early Childhood Education and have worked as a Daycare teacher, Gymboree teacher, and Kindergarten. I have started my own dance team for kids in every city I have lived in. Can't wait to meet you!
Through Calo Gitano, Aqeela met artists from Spain such as Miguel Vargas, Carmen Ledesma, Lydia Caballo, and Daniela Tugues. After a year of studying Flamenco with Calo Gitano, she spent the summer of 2018 at the National Institute of Flamenco studying under Joaquin Encinias. During this time, Miguel Vargas had convinced her that she should move to Seville and train to become a bailaora. So she bought a one way ticket for Spain and in August she found herself studying intensively under Miguel Vargas, Ursula and Tamara Lopez, Lorena Franco, Ana Morales, and Alicia Marquez. Now, in her second year of studying flamenco, Aqeela knows more than ever that she wants to spend her entire life studying and learning this beautiful and passionate form of expression. Her dream is to one day open up her own school where she teaches children a variety of styles they can use to express themselves.

It was amazing. I learned so much as an educator and those kids left the cAmp so proud and eager to learn more about dance because of her. Oh ya and she also led them to design a dance for a showcase for their parents and community.
By far the best dance instructor I have ever worked with and cannot wait to work with her again. When my son grows up I will definitely be reaching out to her so she can teach him the moves.
My passion for teaching began at the age of 13 and I have continued to train students all across the country for the past 17 years now. I train students to add the sparkle of performance quality and passion on top of their skill. I train them to not just be great performers but to also embody lots of professionalism.
Growing up in Atlanta, I trained extensively at Dance Makers of Atlanta and Dekalb School of the Arts in the styles of ballet, tap, jazz, lyrical, contemporary, pointe, modern, hip hop and musical theatre dance. After gradating from high school, I continued my training on a collegiate level at Point Park University where I earned a BFA degree in Dance. Immediately after graduating from college, I booked my first national tour “Bring it On: the Musical” which led me to my Broadway Debut after completing the national tour. Since my debut and introduction into the professional theatre community, I have had the honor of being a part such acclaimed shows such as Hamilton: ...
