I believe in the extraordinary power of music to communicate, to inspire and, often, to heal. That belief underlies all my work. I’ve been a classical singer for 30 years and have sung leading roles with the Caramoor Music Festival, the Aspen Music Festival, the Britten/Aldeburgh Festival, Glimmerglass Opera and the Orchestra of St. Luke's, among many others. I’ve also been a church professional for all my entire career, singing sacred music of almost every genre, including gospel.

My strongest attribute as a teacher is my sensitive and expert touch with students of all ages and personality types. The fundamentals of vocal technique underlie all my teaching, but the individual approach is tailored to each student, whatever his or her age or experience.

My goal is to help you find the power to express through singing your unique self. It doesn't matter whether your voice is professional quality or whether it's even "good" in the conventional sense. It's YOUR voice. It has its own ...

Nancy is kind and caring. She really takes the time to get to know you and your voice in order to craft a method that works best for you. I started out with no real experience and a bunch of bad habits, and she has been able to effortlessly work with that. I look forward to my lesson with her every week. I knew the moment I saw her profile that she stood out from the rest. Don't hesitate to give her a try!

Nancy is the best instructor i could have hoped for! I was very shy and insecure about my voice. She knew exactly how to work with me to sing confidently.
After a month of working with Nancy, i realized that with practice, i too can become a good singer. My goal is to have a mini concert for friends this summer. I’m confident that my lessons with Nancy will get me there

I have been teaching piano for over 40 years, full-time for the past 15. Besides the actual repertoire, technique and theory are always included in my lessons because they are essential. Sight reading and ear training are also included in some lessons.

I stress accuracy in playing and attention to details! I also teach my students HOW to practice. Slow, accurate practice is the answer. Practicing takes patience!

Please note: Home lessons must be at a location that I can get to easily with public transportation. I do not have a car.

About Emil

I started to study the piano at the age of seven with Hrant Minassian in my hometown of Island Park, New York. During high school I continued my studies with Jack Chaikin , a graduate of the Juilliard School. I attended Hofstra University where I received a B.A. in Music in 1979. At Hofstra, my pian

Kathryn comes with two important strengths. First, she is a working professional, with excellent technique and musicality from real world experience. Secondly, she is patient with students like me who are still figuring it out. Those two things make for a great teacher.
Amanda Testa-Oerth
Kathryn has helped me in my musical journey for a very long time! Over the 15 years I have worked with Kathryn she has been a teacher, life coach, and now musical colleague. Kathryn's teaching style is always warm and very informative. She builds confidence on something I did well, then gives me recommendations on how to improve either a technical skill or with musicality of the piece we are working on. After every lesson, I come out feeling improved and more confident than when I went in. Kathryn has guided me in both classical and musical theater pieces as well as introduced me some very interesting contemporary songs that I have greatly enjoyed. With her guidance and instruction, I have grown into a musician that is confident in my own abilities for preforming and a caring instructor to my own students. I highly recommend studying with Kathryn if you have the chance. It is a fantastic learning experience every class!

Kathryn is brilliant and exceptional. If I could give her more stars I would. She is an amazing teacher no matter what age or evel you are from beginner to pro.

My goal as a teacher is to give you the facility to express yourself through music. The key parts to developing this facility are:

1. theory -- notice i say theory, not rules. learning music theory is not about learning rigid rules that will stifle your creativity. when you learn theory, you learn to identify patterns and give them names so you can remember and reuse them. the more you know your theory, the more ways you know to express your ideas
2. technique -- the last thing you want is for your technique to hinder your ability to express your idea. Having good technique lets your ideas flow naturally. and really, why would you not want to be the best you can be?

When you take lessons with me, you get out of it what you put in. Your job as student is to be honest with what you expect to achieve and my job as teacher is to give you the tools to achieve it

About David

I have been playing music almost my entire life. I first started on trombone in 4th grade then switched to guitar in 6th. I picked up the electric bass in my later teenage years and learned the upright bass (both jazz and classical) in college. My students get the benefit of my education, as well

I tried to teach guitar in the same manner in which I teach every instrument. First I teach students the rudiments of the instrument. Also I teach them how to read and a bit of music theory. From that point I like to follow the students lead. They bring in songs that they would like to learn, or possibly how to play lead guitar, or how to finger pick. At every point I try to point out general aspects of music that need to be learned from the material that they choose.

"Rebecca is an amazing teacher and exudes energy and passion when teaching our daughter. She is also very patient and understanding of little children's attitude and behavior which I know can be very challenging at times. Our daughter has been learning from Rebecca for the past two years and is not only able to play but explain the music to myself and others (who, I should say, do not have any musical ability). Our daughter has a new found passion for music because of her lessons and I can't thank Rebecca enough for her help and dedication to our daughters learning."

"I had the opportunity to work with Kessa when we were both in undergrad and I was trying to decide whether or not to become a music major. I was feeling pretty discouraged with my current piano teacher at the school and talked with Kessa since we had a class together and I knew she was a piano major. I had a few lessons with her and she gave me so many helpful ideas about how to approach my pieces and improve my practice habits. She was very kind and didn’t make me feel bad at all, but still pushed me hard in those lessons because she believed in me. Even though I ended up deciding not to go into music after all, I still value those few lessons I had with her and recommend her to everyone at any level."
