Private Piano Teacher

Phillip teaches any level from ages 4-100. Anyone can learn at any age.
These lesson will, in a methodical way, teach you the skills you need to play piano. The only thing keeping you from reaching your potential is starting lessons. Lessons are geared to your speed of learning and needs.

About Phillip

I am a pianist and singer who started learning to play the piano at age 6, and I love teaching all students of all experience levels. Growing up I competed and placed highly in many competitions including playing with the Symphony Orchestra in my home town of Spartanburg, SC after winning it's concerto competition at the age of 17. In college I took piano from Dr. Charles Fugo at the University of South Carolina and also started taking voice lessons from Tonya Currier and Walter Cuttino. While still in college I worked with The South Carolina Opera company for a season as a member of the ensemble and as Chorus Master.
Professionally, I have worked with different theater and opera companies as a lead actor and as a musician. I have also worked in many different church positions as a musician and singer.
I have many years of teaching ex

perience with piano at all experience levels.

*** Lesson Details ***
I have experience teaching since 1995 while I was still in college. I primarily use Alfred and "Faber & Faber" piano methods for beginners. I teach how to read music, understand the theory behind the music, and the technique needed in a patient atmosphere at the pace of the student. I also teach you how the piano works and the different types of pianos as well as the history of keyboards used for different classical music. The lessons are geared toward the goals of the student no matter what level is desired.
In teaching singing, I will teach you the basics necessary to create a healthy and relaxed sound through technique. With experience singing music ranging from classical to contemporary church music to musical theater, I can teach you how to use the voice in a way that will promote a long time of singing without adding stress to the voice. I will work with any style of music and will give you the technique and confidence needed to become a better singer.

*** Studio Equipment ***
In my home studio is a piano and books with big windows to look out. Pianos are an upright piano and an Alesis Synthesiser. For online lessons you will have a clear view of the keyboard as well as myself. It will be like you are the studio with me.

*** Travel Equipment ***
I expect the student to have a piano or an electric keyboard at home for piano lessons. For voice lessons a keyboard is not required but is helpful.

*** Specialties ***
I primarily teach piano in a classical style using either "Faber & Faber" or Alfred Methods for piano lessons.
For voice, I teach all my students to sing in a way that will be the most beneficial to the health of their voice. Doing this is helpful to all styles of singing.

Bill has been a very good piano instructor! He is very flexible and understanding of our busy schedule and does his best to accommodate us. He has taught a 13 year old girl to play Taylor swift songs, which are her favorite! I would highly recommend bill to anyone trying to get their children into piano!

Carissa Austria, age 8, learned piano with Jeff. Her lessons were instrumental in giving her the incentive to practice on her own. Jeff created lessons that made my daughter curious on how to play on her own and experimented with certain keys and sounds. Thank you Jeff for giving my daughter the deep insight to playing the piano not only from her weekly lessons but encouraging her to practice on her own with minimum supervision.

Sincerely
Gerry Austria

With in a few lessons students will be able to play a simple song and with continued practice and teaching from me develop love and understanding of music. Now working with Preschoolers ages 3-5

About Christina

Hi, there! My name is Christina E. and I can't wait to meet you! I've been teaching private lessons for 15 plus years and have loved helping my students prepare for concerts, school auditions, and just learning music. I attended the Alabama School of Fine Arts high school and Queens University of Charlotte while earning a degree in Music Therapy and Psychology. I am calm as well as patient and my teaching style reflects that. I am excited this year to introduce WunderKeys for Preschoolers age 3-5. Why Wunderkeys – This method helps to encourage first experience in music lessons while helping to provide a long term enjoyment of the piano. The Method book is designed to be a one- on – one , 30 minute lesson that contains 10 lessons in each book. On average it does take a child a full school year to complete the program. Using the this

method book it helps to build confidence, and solidify musical concepts. This is all done through songs and games. Also this year I will be focusing more on individuals that have special needs. As a Music Therapist I am able to adapt music lessons so that it is more teachable for those with special needs. I look forward to helping you reach your goals!

I have been teaching piano for about 7 years, and over that time had over 50 different students. They were all completely new to the piano (and music in general) but throughout the lessons learned to play music in church, and just for fun at home! I love being able to take a completely new student who is willing to learn, and watch him/her learn to play and even enjoy playing the piano.

About Hannah

Hey there! My name is Hannah, I have been teaching piano for about 7 years, and over that time had over 50 students. Most of them have been completely new to the piano (and music in general), but over time were able to read music, understand simple technique/theory, and play music at home, in church, and competition. I love being able to take a completely new student who is willing to learn, and see them learn to enjoy (yes, enjoy ;) playing the piano.

I also teach students who have been playing for a few years and have more experience. Preparing for competitions, learning advanced theory, and working on advanced classical pieces are just a few things I can offer to someone who has had previous musical training.

My kids absolutely love Hannah as their piano teacher. She relates to each one individually and on their maturity level. They are always eager for lessons and to be with her. All three started out with no music knowledge and have learned exceptionally well how to play. I’m so pleased with how they love her and want to learn because her.

Doug is a fantastic music teacher and my acoustic guitar skills have noticeably improved since taking lessons with him. He also has an in-depth knowledge of music theory which helps to make sense of some of the more technical aspect of reading and playing music.

About Maggie

Since earning my Bachelor's Degree in Musicology in 2009, I have been teaching private piano lessons to ages young and old. I use various method books to develop strong fundamentals; which in-turn creates a strong musical foundation on which the student can build. I believe every student has a different learning style and as a teacher, I am constantly learning from my students to develop and expand my teaching methods. Each of my students are on their own individual musical journey and I'm happy to be a part of it.

Maggie is a great teacher. My seven-year-old daughter loves her and she learns a lot from her. My daughter had a different piano teacher before. I like Maggie's upbeat way of teaching better than her old teacher. I personally believe the right attitude and energy helps motivate kids to learn. I like that she has different lesson plans and reward system. Just a little something to show my daughter that she's doing a good job.

We are a husband and wife piano teaching team that enjoy seeing children grow as they expand their musical skill set. We are firm believers of learning the fundamentals. We teach all ages and levels, and want our students to be having fun!

And if your piano needs a tuning, we do that too!

It is great getting a student to think and analyze the task at hand. It might seem too hard at first, but I will walk the student through the process of figuring out how to play a piece. Learning music gives you a lot of skills applicable to everyday life.

Learning from Mr. Higgins has been a great experience. He is extremely knowledgeable and definitely knows his stuff! As a freshman high school trumpet player, I needed a lot of help on various things. Mr. Higgins went above and beyond in helping me improve on those tricky things and always made me feel at home and not at all pressured. For any student that truly wants a professional's advice and is serious about getting better, Sean Higgins is one of the best.

Mr. Higgins is a wonderful piano teacher! He is very receptive to my overall goals with piano and tailors each of our lessons to meet my abilities and ensure that I am learning well-rounded skills. During our lessons we review workbook music, (beginner) classical pieces, technique, and ear training. I'm really enjoying learning from Mr. Higgins, and he makes each lesson both educational and fun!
