I took piano lessons when I was in elementary school and again when I was in college. I've always played for fun. I will have some suggested books, but I can also supplement what you might already have.

About Chelsea
I have a Master's in Music Technology from Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis and a Bachelor's in Music (Technology and Recording) from the University of Indianapolis.
I started on the piano when I was in elementary school. I began playing the clarinet, my primary instrument, in 6th grade. I then started playing the saxophone in 8th grade and started playing the flute in high school.
I have performed on all of these instruments in various types of concerts and have taught lessons for the past five years.

*** Lesson Details ***
I can give lessons in person (my house or yours) or online! Lesson prices vary based on location.

*** Travel Equipment ***
I bring some music and some sight-reading materials. I expect students to have their instrument, a music stand, and to buy music and method books as needed.

Chelsea did a great job at our first lesson! She was patient and encouraging. She gave my daughter good suggestions on how she could improve and things to try in areas she was struggling. My daughter felt so much better after the lesson. We will continue to take lessons with Chelsea

We sent music to Chelsea in advance and she was able to help my son with the difficult parts of his music. The time was well spent and she explained things well. We look forward to our next lesson and working with her over the next month to help him catch up.

Student lessons are designed and planned according to the his or her knowledge of music and level of playing as the student progresses. I teach the very beginner and those who have advanced in their playing.

About Charles
Charlie is a certified music teacher, who teaches in areas surrounding Wendell and travels to teach in the Raleigh, Zebulon and Knightdale areas. He teaches in his home in Wendell and travels to other areas on certain days. (See availability)

He first began teaching guitar and piano during his music studies at the University of Southern Mississippi in Hattiesburg, MS. At the university and after receiving his degree in music education, he has taught and performed in various musical settings and venues which has included the genres of classical, jazz, blues, rock, folk and country. Besides teaching and performing, Charlie also is a songwriter who writes songs for his groups performances and teaches his more advanced students songwriting.

Drawing upon his education and experiences as both performer and teacher, he strives to rel
ate his background to his student's learning experiences and progress. As each student comes with his or her individual musical wants and interests, student lessons are designed to meet these needs of a particular student. Charlie has young students of ages 5 to 14 as well as students of upper ages. According to a student's level of musicianship (beginner, advanced or in between), students are taught how to read music, music theory in relation to their progress, chords, scales and how to write/compose their own songs. He has designed a method of teaching which is full of great musical exercises & fun illustrations for the young student to enjoy while learning skills on their instrument.

For example, students can began with simple fingerings of chords & beginning melodies played in slow rhythms to allow the student to develop at a comfortable pace. Students that can not read music notation begin simple reading exercises of note recognition, time signatures, note values, eye hand coordination and more.

*** Lesson Details ***
I design student lessons according the age, playing level and music related interests as lessons can cover a broad range of interests and musical styles. For my beginning students- to develop their understanding of playing chords and rhythms,
I teach chords as they relate to musical keys and some common rhythm patterns used in many popular songs.

For guitar students, I have designed & developed my own materials for guitar (sheets & accompanying CD) which guide students in practicing chords progressions, strum/rhythm patterns & scales/melodies in relation to chords. My students have shown much success in these methods of concentrating on developing that essential sense & feel for playing different rhythm styles. Piano instruction is centered on learning to read music notation and music theory as it relates to the student's progress.

As students advance, more emphasis is placed on improvising on melodies, different approaches to soloing and chord extensions and substitutions. Also, students are taught music theory as it relates to their progress to enable them to create their own music.

I have a good selection of method books and materials to fit each student's level of musicianship and choice of playing style(s) to extend upon their interests and goals.

My approach to teaching is to make lessons fun and enjoyable in a comfortable and relaxed setting to allow the student full
concentration on each lesson. But, also to provide the necessary guidance and encouragement to challenge and motivate students to improve and develop natural strengths and new skills.

*** Travel Equipment ***
I have a good selection of materials (many I've developed), extra instruments if needed and recording equipment. The student will need the instrument and an amp for electric guitar.

*** Specialties ***
Teach theory as relates to students progress- examples, chords as relate to major scales, understanding of I IV V chords
in popular music genres, develop knowledge of chords & rhythmic sense before learning songs. I teach in styles of blues,
rock. jazz, country and classical.

I began piano lessons with Charlie as a total beginner and he quickly helped me find my footing. He was always patient and encouraging and asking questions designed to make sure the lessons were structured in a way that would most efficiently achieve my own personal goals. I'm usually a pretty nervous person, but Charlie has a warm presence that makes it easy even for people like me to be able to open up and focus on what's important, the music. I highly recommend him to anyone who's been thinking about learning the piano but hasn't quite been able to take the plunge yet.

I teach using a combination of your books and Hal Leonard method books depending on your level. I specialize in playing ergonomically and musically so that you can enjoy making music!

About Julia
I have a Master’s in Opera Performance from the Boston and New England Conservatories as well as graduating from Vocal Performance programs at Boston University and Western Washington University. I have sung professionally with Boston Lyric Opera, Children’s Theater Companies, churches and synagogue and have toured on the east coast as well as Athens, Greece. Premiering new music is a specialty. I can help you prepare your pieces for auditions.  My students have successful auditions for college opera and music theater programs, and as choir soloists.

Students gain a larger vocal range and an easy, natural way of singing whether it is in a rock band, choir or as a soloist. Together we find the joy of singing while building a solid technique.

I have worked with small children as a Musikgarten teacher and have toured artist residency
programs which introduce children to music and theater in schools.   I was adjunct faculty at the College of St. Benedict/St. John’s University and local music studios as well as maintaining my private teaching practice.

*** Lesson Details ***
I am persistent and positive! Working and performing with singers and master teachers has helped me to be a resourceful teacher who understands the process of becoming a singer. I believe that a sense of fun and play helps you to accomplish your goals quickly.  For beginners you will learn how the voice works and how to care for and develop your instrument, I recommend adults take 45" - 1 hour lessons weekly for skill building. The price of lessons DECREASES by 10% after each 5 lesson purchased for the first 15 lessons. Studio policy is located at VaaraMusic.com. We will choose music that interests you and helps to build your voice starting with basics before moving to more complex and challenging music. Understanding music theory and sight-reading will help you get the most out of your singing. After 3 - 6 months you should have a good command of breathing and an understanding of how to sing with an expressive tone. For the advanced student, I can help you work on trouble spots and give you tools to help with the changes that voices naturally go through.  I look forward to giving you my full focus and celebrating your growth and accomplishments!

*** Studio Equipment ***
Condo w/ open area with piano. Visitor's parking lot w/ seating in studio for parents to listen. Parents with younger siblings can use play areas outside.
Basic library of vocal music, giving the student a way to sample different kinds of songs before purchasing books or downloading songs on their own. Music stand, iPhone plug-in/Amp for accompaniments and examples you want me to hear.

*** Travel Equipment ***
I provide a basic library of vocal music at my home studio and will bring targeted books with me. Students should print out their favorite popular songs from such services as Music Notes website.
I expect my students to provide a keyboard, music stand and notebook as well as a low distraction environment.

I have played piano for rock bands and worship ensembles for several years. I was also required to take 4 semesters of Functional Piano in college and prove myself a proficient pianist to graduate. I also use piano on a daily basis for arranging, composing, and teaching.

About Jordan
13 years ago, I picked up a guitar and began my life-long pursuit of music. This pursuit has led me in a wide variety of directions. Today, I am the worship leader for Living Life Church, an on-staff music-producer and session musician at Drive35 Productions, and a passionate instructor.

I have a passion for a wide variety of styles of music. For several years, I was the lead guitarist, singer, and songwriter for multiple independent rock bands, the most notable being an indie psychedelic band called Tod The Fox. I have led worship for many churches including Grace Fellowship UMC, Brazos Pointe Church, The Cornerstone College Ministry at UTA, and FUMC Allen in varying capacities. At UTA, I studied Jazz and Classical guitar under acclaimed guitarists Sam Walker and Billy Robertson. Here, I also studied theory, piano, sight-singing, an
d music-production extensively. I graduated Magna Cume Laude with a Bachelor of Music-Media from UTA. After school, I spent 9 months interning/assistant engineering with acclaimed musician/composer/producer Brad Nyght at The Bakery Studio in Dallas- whose credits include being the drummer for The Michael Gungor Band and Desperation Band. Then, got hired as an on-staff session musician and music producer at Drive35 Productions. I have also played guitar, mandolin, and bass for multiple pit orchestras and guitar for the North Lake Jazz Ensemble with director Jim Eger.

My teaching style varies from student to student. Music is a wonderfully diverse subject and every student has his own aspirations. I will do my best to cater each lesson to the student's goals and interests. Whether that is classical guitar method, rock, jazz, folk, country, pop or anything in between.

I have an excellent internet connection and microphone set up for online lessons. I also utilize screen-sharing to make the lessons as close to real life as possible.

A few of my favorite artists include: Michael Gungor, Joe Pass, Andrew Bird, Chopin, Led Zeppelin, Glen Hansard, and Radiohead.

*** Lesson Details ***
Lessons will vary significantly from student to student. Not only does every student have different goals in mind, they all learn differently as well. I do my best to customize my lessons for each student's goals and needs. A typical guitar, bass, ukulele, or piano lesson may involve music-reading, chord studies, technical work, scale practice, theory, and of course learning awesome songs!

I consider myself a healthy balance between professional and light-hearted. As much as I want to make efficient use of the lesson-time, my primary goal is for the student to truly understand and enjoy music.

I have worked hard to be a flexible musician and teacher. I am competent in jazz, rock, classical, contemporary, blues, worship, country, and beyond and will be happy to teach any (or all) of these styles to any student.

I have been working with Jordan for nearly a year, learning ukulele and guitar. Jordan is an excellent teacher, has a friendly and upbeat personality, and is flexible with scheduling. Our lessons typically involve learning a song of my choosing (which makes the process enjoyable) and learning about music theory. I have steadily improved over the past year and am confident that I wouldn't be at the level I am now if I were trying to teach myself through YouTube videos or books. I offer my highest recommendation with no reservations.

I played piano for Brigham Young University's Dance Department for 7 years - sight reading or playing without any music for Ballet and Modern Dance classes. I think sight reading is one of the best piano skills to have because you can play whatever you want in a fraction of the time. So my goal is to get students there. Most people aren't looking to become concert pianists, and my goal isn't that. It's to help them play well enough to really enjoy it and be very satisfied with their progress.

About Richard
My goal is to help students ENJOY the piano by finding ways to make it easier and doable. I have a very useful approach in helping students become self sufficient to sight read very well, to see patterns, understand music theory to either help them play well, or to even create their own music(I compose a lot of great music as well)

I couldn't sight read very well until I was 16, but I had a great sight reading teacher that showed me how to develop it, and now I can say that I'm one of the best sight readers out there that I know. I was a ballet pianist at Brigham Young University for several years where all I did was sightread binders full of ballet/classical music. I play for choirs, church congregations, jazz bands, or musical jam sessions all the time, and I couldn't do that at all if I didn't learn how to sight read well.
I would love to help you learn the piano, and I will do my best to make learning as effective as possible. I especially enjoy teaching those who quit and would like to try again, because I know what that is like.

Concerning my musical background, I've played, arranged, and composed piano for choirs, bands, jazz combos, singers. I've been in bands all my life, and have composed for jazz bands, choirs, and orchestras at BYU and in Eastern Europe. I also play about 10 different instruments. I won two Student Emmys in Hollywood for my compositions to BYU's animations in 2010 & 2014.

I am currently writing music for video games.

*I recommend hour-long lessons for students over 10.

A basic lesson begins with a few minutes of warm-ups followed by songs progressing from the lesson book being used, one or two songs the student likes from whatever genre he/she enjoys playing, and we end with a sight read. My lessons include some music theory and note reading/writing, and at times a brief bit of history behind each composer and/or composition. This helps the student better comprehend music in order to make song writing and performing simpler.
For children under 9, in particular, some of these lesson aspects are relaxed. Regardless of student age, my goal as an educator is to make these lessons as fun as possible for you or your child while progressing at your own comfortable pace. Retention is more difficult when you're not enjoying what you're learning.

About Victoria
I've been teaching piano since 2012 and have been playing since 2000, although my first instrument was the clarinet, which I began learning in 1996. During my final two years at Atkinson County High School, I conducted the band at games and assisted the high school director in leading the band class whenever he was absent or otherwise occupied. My first two years of college were concentrated in piano performance, with more courses in music theory, world music, ear training, and music appreciation. In addition to my music background, have one bachelor's degree in philosophy and religious studies, and took my electives in sociology, gaining an award of excellence from the department of sociology, anthropology and criminal justice from Valdosta State. I graduated from NYU, and earned a Master degree in Music Performance. I've been teaching Piano and Flute since I was in college. My students are ranging from 3 years old to 50 years old. And now, I am teaching at Cary School of Music, I have rich experiences to teach students. I always create different teaching and practicing strategies/methods for different students. I usually combine piano/ flute lessons with music theory, I teach music theory as well as piano and flute lessons while we're having lessons.

As a professional performer, I know how to train my students into a music professionals. However, my students will not feel much pressure to be a music professionals, because I want y students to learn it happily with a high music level standards.

About Julie
I have a very complete formal classical music education background. I have been learning piano when I was 5, and I have been learning flute when I was 9. I was educated in music school during middle school, high school, undergraduate, and graduate school (New York University). I also took many classes, which are related to woodwind teaching in college. I've started my teaching career since 2011, I am good at providing different teaching methods for different students. It would be really fun to work with me, you will definitely like playing flute and piano.

I worked in an orphanage when I was a sophomore. I worked as a general music tutor, some of them were kids who needed special cares, and I did a successful work there. I taught them how to play with music.

And I have organized four solo flute concerts and other different kinds of
chamber and orchestra concerts. You will definitely learn more than you thought form me!!
