My first lesson with Zach was great! 5 stars. He asked the right questions as to what aI am looking to do. And we quickly came up with a lesson plan that with the right amount of work in my part will get me headed in the right direction. Zach does a great job of making his students feel comfortable and good about their abilities.

Nancy is kind and caring. She really takes the time to get to know you and your voice in order to craft a method that works best for you. I started out with no real experience and a bunch of bad habits, and she has been able to effortlessly work with that. I look forward to my lesson with her every week. I knew the moment I saw her profile that she stood out from the rest. Don't hesitate to give her a try!

Nancy is the best instructor i could have hoped for! I was very shy and insecure about my voice. She knew exactly how to work with me to sing confidently.
After a month of working with Nancy, i realized that with practice, i too can become a good singer. My goal is to have a mini concert for friends this summer. I’m confident that my lessons with Nancy will get me there

I tell people that I came out of the womb acting, dancing, and singing as these have and still are passions that drive my career as an artist. I went to a Flemish-speaking Kindergarten and Elementary school where we did a musical stage production each year. I am so grateful that my parents and maternal grandmother saw my gifting in the arts and put me in one of the best English-speaking private schools in Belgium that had a renowned arts program from 7-12th grade. I was in plays, musicals, drama classes, drama clubs, international theater festivals, voice lessons, dance lessons, received drama and music awards, and at the end of high school received an International Baccalaureate certificate in Theater. Then I went on to receive a Bachelor of Theater Arts with a concentration on acting and directing. I would love to coach/teach you or your child about acting on stage or for the camera. I can also teach/coach on improv, method, or Shakespearean acting. I am currently living in Los ...

She is very passionate about the craft and is a genuine person. She knows how to work with each actors' strengths to bring out their best performances. She works with you on getting of rid of habits that hinder your true potential. I am so blessed to have worked with her. "Exceptional! Toya is a working artist herself, so she is beyond knowledgeable about acting and voice. A lot of my daughter’s lessons ran longer than the time I paid, which is a rare, and very generous thing. Toya makes sure you get what you pay for and more. She’s so passionate about helping talent find their way in the arts. She is equally great at helping parents who know nothing about the arts, like me, learn the best way to support our kids in the arts, which is just incredible. She is beyond talented, very professional, and an absolute inspiration to all those she teaches. My daughter started out with no experience, and learned it all from Toya. She is now working as a professional actor thanks to Toya! My family and I will get to see my daughter in a major film in theatres! By far the best acting/vocal instructor on TakeLessons or anywhere else, hands down."

My most favorite thing about him is that he has legitimate acting experience in television and film, and doesn't charge $30-$60 per hour per class. He is a busy man, but he always makes sure that he has time for his students. I would recommend him to anyone who wants to take up acting :)"

How to Read & Understand Stage Directions

If you’ve ever been in a play or musical you will be familiar with the term ‘stage directions’. For those who don’t know, stage directions are,  “an instruction in the text of a play, especially one indicating the movement, position, or tone of an actor.” Stage directions can also be instructions for the director, such as the way the stage should be lit or what kind of sound effect could be used.  Stage directions can also tell an actor how to deliver a line— pace of speech, emot …

What is Acting: A Deeper Look at the Craft

Hollywood actress, Rosalind Russell once said; “Acting is standing up naked and turning around very slowly.” Although meant as a joke, this is the best description of acting I have ever heard. At the core of acting, is truth and vulnerability. You cannot hope to be a successful actor without baring your heart and soul for the craft. But what exactly is the craft?  The History of Acting In order to truly understand acting, one must understand the history of the craft. And, what a history i …

How Do Actors Cry?

Actors often draw their audience in through strong and seemingly authentic emotions.  Perhaps you watched a particularly emotional scene in a movie or play and wondered to yourself whether or not the emotion the actor was showing was truthful.  Perhaps they were crying and you could see the tears falling.  Are those real tears?  The answer is, probably, yes. Crying on command is tricky business and like everything else, takes preparation and practice. However, there are some tips and tri …
