I have a degree in music with a teaching certificate. I have been teaching cello privately for 10 years. Depending on the age of the child we will start with either Essential Elements or Suzuki cello book one. They will start with proper positioning and plucking. Once they have 8 notes down, we start bowing. As we progress, we will be doing scales, and etudes.
I have been teaching private violin for over 20 years, and private viola/cello for about 10. I have taught in Charles and St. Mary's County Public schools. I am a member of American Strings Teacher's Association, National Association for Music Educators (Maryland Music Educators Association), and t

I focus on three key aspects when teaching singing lessons:
1) Technique-- Ensuring that the student is singing in a healthy manner. This includes work on proper posture, breath support, diction and enunciation, phrasing, tuning, etc.
2) Comfort and Support- It is my belief that no student, child or adult, learns well with a teacher that doesn't put them at ease. I provide a comfortable, supportive atmosphere for my students. I help them develop confidence and belief in themselves as singers.
3) Individualized lessons-- I do not follow a set curriculum, as I believe that each student has different goals. Rather, I create a curriculum for the student to follow based on their current ability level, experience, short-term and long-term goals.

I completed 2 years of music courses at Alvin Community College and I’m moving on to my second year at Texas A&M University Commerce where I will soon be finishing my Bachelors of Arts in Music. I can help you with breathing, diction, dynamics, placement, musicality, and so much more! We will learn good technique and put that into practice in your repertoire. Message me if you have any questions and I look forward to hearing you sing :)

Ms. Chris is awesome. My son started taking lessons to see if he really liked the violin about 3 1/2 years ago and fell in love with the violin. I do believe he likes it simply because he has an AWESOME teacher. She pushes him when he needs to be pushed and encourages him to audition for performances. He has done a wonderful job and we highly recommend Ms. Chris Heins!"
