Alex is not only fantastic at helping someone find the perfect rep for an audition/cabaret/book/etc., he's equally fantastic at helping you craft each song to be something more than just a standard piece. His overall knowledge of music theater and the anthology of music therein is top notch.
Alex is also a great person to turn to when you find yourself stuck in the same old habits. If something is feeling stale or you aren't sure why it isn't working, Alex's keen eye for actor crutches or cheats helps you break away from the same old traps and discover something new in every piece.
Truly a wonderful person to turn to when you're looking to turn your rep upside down!!

Last Minute Save

I needed a specific song for a last minute audition. For 15 minutes before the audition Alex played it for me and offered some ideas and different choices I could make. Not only did it help me connect with the piece but it also helped me vocally. The following day I went to an audition and booked the job with just one fifteen minute session.

I think what is most important to me, especially as a dancer, is that he provides a very comfortable environment where I'm not afraid to explore or try new things. He is also able to break it down into terms and ideas that are easy for me to understand and apply.
Melissa C. McKinney, TX

About Melissa

Hello! Melissa C. here and I can't wait to meet you! Here's a bit about me. I have a BFA in Musical Theater with a minor in piano from the University of Oklahoma. I also became a certified Montessori preschool teacher while living in NYC. I have performed in some great places such as Hershey PA, aboard the MS Maasdam cruise ship, Seoul South Korea, traveling tours and of course, good old NYC! I had the great fortune to be in the original cast of SCHOOLHOUSE ROCK LIVE! on Broadway as well as many other Off Broadway musicals such as the It Girl. Here in Dallas I perform in plays and musicals on a regular basis and I love it!! What gets me excited now is teaching kids, teens and people of all ages to sing or play the piano! I teach in several schools to groups of children and I ...

Melissa has been beyond helpful and informative as an instructor. I've taken 3 lessons so far and I can say that I see a big difference in my singing in such a short amount of time. Before taking lessons, I thought I could only learn how to sing in my "head voice" (ex. Phantom of the Opera) but when I started taking lessons with Melissa, she helped me discover my "chest voice". It really amazed me on how much she can pull out of you!

I can also say that each time I take a lesson with her, I regain a higher amount of self confidence. I honestly couldn't have asked for a better instructor!

Thanks a million Melissa!

Ryan is so great with my 6 yr old son. He is very patient with him, and even though we are having our son learn piano for now, his ultimate goal is to learn the guitar. With Ryan knowing this about our son, he also allows him to strum the guitar every so often so that it reminds him how his piano lessons will ultimately pay off in the end. Ryan is super great with kids! I highly recommend him to anyone.

Ryan is an amazing Piano teacher! My son is 7 and requires a lot of patience and redirection, and Ryan is very good at keeping him on track. We had to switch teachers after the previous one was not a good fit for my son's strong personality. I highly recommend Ryan if your child is easily distracted and strong willed. :)
Thomas S. Richardson, TX

About Thomas

Hello, I'™m Thomas, but most people call me T. I started taking private drum lessons when I was 6 years old from Lucy Flohr. Ms. Lucy was one of the most influential and important people in my development not only as a drummer but in life as well (she's the lady in my profile picture). I met her at 6, and we'™re still friends 30 years later. After Lucy I started lessons with professors at UNT (which in those days was NTSU). My glam band, Skin Deep, was getting major record deal offers, but it was 1992 when grunge took over. So under guidance of our attorney we didn'™t sign any offers. With my high hopes deflated and a musically defeated heart I had to make a change. So instead of going to UNT to study music which I had been being groomed to do, I chose to go to Austin and attend ...

I have been taking lessons with Thomas for a year and a half. He is very patient and explains things very well. I had no drum experience before I met him. I can read music and play better than I ever though I could for the limited amount of time I have been paying. I highly recommend Thomas for adults and kids. I have a busy work schedule and he has been gracious and flexible with my schedule.

Fantastic Teacher for Kids

My 8 year old son has been taking drum lessons from Thomas for about 4 months and he very much enjoys it. What I really like about the lessons is that Thomas custom designs the next lesson based on how the student is performing in the current lesson. His homework assignments are very detailed which is great because I, as well as my son, know what he should be practicing during the week. I can definitely see a big improvement since my son started and I have no doubts he is getting a solid foundation in drums as well as music theory. Thomas is a super nice guy and very patient which makes him fantastic for kids. My wife is a music educator and she is just as impressed with Thomas as I am. We highly recommend him.

Awesome teacher

I have been taking lessons from Thomas for about 4 months. I knew nothing about drums when I started. I have learned so much so fast. T's teaching style is flexible and he is able to adjust the way he explains things so I understand. I have so many light bulb moments in the lesson and when I am practicing at home. He is professional and a lot of fun. My drum lesson is one of the highlights of my week. T is not only teaching me how to play the drums, but how to not be so hard on myself. We laugh a lot and I always leave feeling great about my lesson and that I have accomplished something. I am an adult student and would recommend him for any adult or kid. I can see how young people would relate to him as well. He is laid back, but very professional and knows his stuff. I have recently moved 30 minutes away from him, but will continue to make the drive because he is awesome and worth the drive.

Having an Awesome time taking lessons with Zach

I got solicited into making this review after our most recent lesson. I would be lying though if I said I hadn't enjoyed the lessons we have been taking. I know I can be rather impatient during our lessons, I like to try and play ahead, but Zach is good at reeling me back in and keeping me focused on the task at hand. He's really friendly and outgoing and I'm glad he's my teacher!

Great teacher!

Zachary has been a great teacher thus far! I started off with no knowledge of guitar and in two months I'm already feeling comfortable enough to show off my new skills to my friends and family. He is very friendly and patient, and moves along at whatever pace is right for you. The homework he gives to work on between sessions is really helpful, so I don't feel lost when I'm on my own. I will definitely recommend him to everyone!

How to Practice Singing: Practical Tips for Memorizing Lyrics
Need to memorize lyrics--quickly? Take a look at these helpful tips from Ann Arbor, MI voice teacher Elaina R...   For many people, memorizing words is easier if the words are set to music–that is why songs are often used in education (there is even a song that lists all 50 states!).
