Hello! My name is Eminor (my preferred name!), I'm a state certified teacher with many years of experience teaching and tutoring both in and out of the classroom, and I look forward to meeting you and helping you achieve your goals. I hope to get to know you in person soon, but until then, here are my qualifications and interests. See you soon!

Qualifications:
-     Graduated magna cum laude from Texas A&M University with a BA in Classics, Greek focus, and a minor in Japanese. 
-     Graduated with Merit (UK equivalent of a 3.0 GPA) from The University of Nottingham in England, Master's in Ancient History.
-     Texas state certified to teach English both level and advanced for grades 9-12.
-     More than a decade of tutoring experience in English language arts, foreign language, and study skills; five years of classroom teaching experience: one year at a private academy of students with learning differences and disabilities and four years in public school.
-     Have taught students as young as 8 years old and as old as 63
-     Coached and ran academic clubs and extracurricular clubs such as state spelling and writing competitions and creative writing clubs.
-     My proudest accomplishments to date include teaching an elementary student to love classical literature and one of my Latin students going on to join and excel in college translation courses as only a junior in high school.

Interests:
-     Reading and creative writing such as short stories, poetry, and even fanfiction!
-     Singing: I hope to resume voice lessons soon!

I made myself available at set times each week to struggling students in beginner and intermediate courses. I also allowed students to set up extra meetings outside of my set hours to help them prepare for exams.

Greek/Latin Tutor

I made myself available as needed to all levels of current Japanese students to help with homework, exam preparation, and study strategies. I was also occasionally asked by a teacher to teach a student who had, due to injury, illness, etc., missed too many classes to continue without extra help. My job in that case was to teach all the language which the student had missed and prepare them to continue with their classmates.

Japanese Tutor

I graded assignments, quizzes, and exams for all levels of Japanese classes, excepting advanced exams.

Japanese Grader

A former teacher of mine referred a struggling high-school student of his to me. The student was ADD and had missed several classes due to illness. My job was to teach him the Greek he should have been learning in class to prepare him to rejoin his classmates in the following school-year.

I was an independent contractor with this company to tutor in English language arts, GRE exam prep, elementary math, Latin, Greek, and Japanese.

Private Tutor

As an independent contractor I taught the middle and high school Japanese elective courses at Angles Academy, a private academy whose philosophy is that all children can learn and whose mission is to prove that with small classes and individualized teaching strategies.

Japanese is my pet subject, and I am passionate about both learning and teaching it! Whether you're about to start learning yourself or are already learning and looking for extra help, congratulations! I have been teaching Japanese for over a decade to a variety of students, such as college students and military preparing to be stationed in Okinawa. Teaching Japanese is a particular passion of mine, because even though I wanted to learn as a high-schooler I had to wait until my sophomore year of college to find a teacher. Japanese learning should be far more easily accessible, and that's what I'm here for! Whatever your goal is - to learn Japanese for professional purposes, private purposes, or even just to watch your favorite TV programs without subtitles - I make it my personal goal to help you achieve it. I look forward to helping you succeed with Japanese!

Emily has been my grandson's reading tutor who truly knows how to make learning enjoyable. From the very first lesson, it was clear that this tutor was committed to fostering a love for reading in her students.  I would recommend her to anyone struggling at an older and younger age.  Now she is tutoring my granddaughter as well. 

In the first lesson, adjusting to lessons online teaching was excellent, although we had technical camera difficulties. 

I have a passion for ancient Greece (especially the Orphic hymns) and am lucky to have such a wonderful guide and tutor.  Eminor has been so helpful in teaching me grammar (and checking my Greek translation homework!), and in providing commentary on one of the hymns.  I can't wait to dig in more!

Emily is highly motivated and recommended, we have seen such an improvement in my grandson's reading skills.  For a 14 year old boy he really looks forward to his sessions with Emily online.  5 Stars for sure.
