Students from 5-95 are welcome. We will use the Alfred Premier Series, mainly the Lessons, Technique and Theory books. However, materials and methods are adjusted based on individual learning styles and interests.

A variety of rhythm instruments and games are used with younger students to build basic skills. Older students will learn music history with their lessons.

I incorporate a lot in piano lessons such as chords, technique, memorization, music reading, music theory, ear training and more. I like using both lesson books and music that the individual picks out to keep students interest and engagement. I use many materials throughout lessons. I like to incorporate the fundamentals of music theory so that the student understands the concepts of music, not only learning to read sheet music. I keep lessons fun and engaging and I teach each student what they want to learn. I consistently check in with students progress and continue to take students to the next level. Students will learn how to practice efficiently, and learn patience in the process. I continually help students form good practice habits and show them effective ways to practice.

About Lynzi

I am like a proud mama when it comes to my students. I have been teaching online and in person for 8 years now and I have seen all of my students grow and accomplish so many great things. Whether their goal has been to get a main role in a theater production in a theater troup or at school, to crea

Expect to build a stronger relationship and understanding with music. I am not going to look for perfection. The most important thing is to connect with the music you're playing. Within a few lessons you will see confidence with your instrument grow. The first lesson, we will talk about the goals you are trying to achieve. We'll explore music theory, sight reading, creating original songs, playing by ear, and if you want, we can dive into the modern music industry. How is music made today?

About Haley

I currently teach at the Grosse Pointe Music academy and I am looking to fill some open slots in my morning/mid day schedule. I am currently a piano principal pursuing a Bachelors Degree in Music Business from Wayne State University. I was classically trained in piano and generally teach the class

Haley is great! She is very flexible with my son's schedule and understanding. My really enjoys her as a teacher and he has come leaps and bounds from where he started weeks ago. He will be playing in his school's talent show after only having played for a few months. She is very caring and nurturing to my son and allows him to move at a pace that he is comfortable with while also pushing him to focus.

I try to teach the way that I play and write, with curiosity and compassion. In lessons with me, you'll receive a personally curated curriculum, designed around your own (or your parents') goals, and the kind of music you want to make. I also implement listening and creation segments in my lessons, where I will ask you to bring music you're actively listening to, and push you to write music that you think represents you. I aim to approach learning holistically, but also in a way that will get you excited about learning how to play.

My teaching is queer-friendly, and I seek to create an environment that is comfortable for all genders and sexualities. I am trying to unlearn white-centered teaching practices, and decolonized the way I teach and understand music. If you're willing to learn with me, and be in a space that works to be inclusive toward even the most marginalized, send me a message! Let's make music together.

"Sarah loves piano lessons with Tammye because she is calm, funny and very "laid-back" in how she approaches children and teaching the piano. These qualities are gradually drawing Sarah back to an instrument that she loved initially but had withdrawn from due to very strict and almost frightening former teachers. I am so happy to see her loving the piano again and looking forward to her practices with Tammye. Thank you, Tammye, for encouraging and realizing that learning an instrument is a marathon for some and not a sprint!"

Why Learning Piano Theory is Important for All Musicians

Struggling to understand music theory? Try heading over to the piano -- seeing a visual representation can help a ton! Here, Lowell, IN teacher Blake C. shares how to get started...   Many musicians avoid learning music theory altogether because it can feel much like learning a foreign language; as a result, many musicians enlist in the anti-music theory organization. I will admit it – I was a member of the anti-music theory organization in my early years, declaring that music theory …
