My goal in every lesson is to help my students feel the confidence that comes from learning piano, and to have fun doing it.
My students learn to read music, play by ear, and to compose their own original songs.

I structure my lessons so students learn what they want to learn, while also building a strong foundation in sight reading, technique and music theory. I may follow a lesson book when teaching beginners but I also teach how to improvise and how to use other methods of learning music such as learning by ear or using chords.

I attune to each students needs, whether they are visual, pattern, or verbal learners. I do not subscribe to any "Piano 101" books; instead write practice exercises on a computer program or supply actual pieces or piano books, attuned to each student's needs. Lines on a page are boring for many; I add color to the notes on the page to help teach beginners the practice of sight reading, as I myself have synesthesia. I also encourage students to learn whichever music they want: if one wants to learn ragtime, I will teach ragtime; if one wants to learn jazz, I will teach jazz; and if one wants to learn classical, I will teach classical. I hope to expand students' involvement in music and enhance creativity. I also understand how important listening is, and encourage students to listen. But amidst all this, I strongly believe it is in both of our best interests to not assign busywork. Piano is more than a just skill; it is a hobby, a meditation practice, and it can be a tool for your life
About Tim
Hi I'm Tim! I know that with most teachers, there's usually some type of stereotype involved. Some are the "strict teacher", some are the "cool teacher", some are the "lazy teacher" and others are the "teacher who can't teach". Well I just want to be the teacher that works for making you learn o

Quirky, artsy, non-conformist music teacher for all ages!
I have been playing for 25 years and teaching for the past 6 years. I have an out-of the-box, unique teaching style that combines traditional, Suzuki, and proprietary (my own) teaching methods, which I use in varying combinations to suit each individual student's needs.
I'm experienced teaching a wide variety of musical styles (anything except rap and country).
I insist on classical foundations but am always open to new music, often using students' selections to teach them musical skills.
I have experience teaching students with minor learning disabilities, as well as ADD/ADHD and Asperger's, both of which I have myself.
This makes me a better, more flexible teacher, and I am open to working with you and/or your child, even as far as incorporating music lessons into homeschool curriculum.
I do take teaching music seriously, and I do require parental involvement on a regular basis, as I consider this crucial to learning
About Susan Skye
I started singing when I heard the musical "Cats" at age 8. I decided I wanted to sing like those people, and that's exactly what I did: I sang my little heart out until I had a great voice. At age 11, I was asked to play the bassoon in the school band, which also required piano lessons. This
