I teach piano in the same manner in which I teach every instrument. First I teach students the rudiments of the instrument. Also I teach them how to read and a bit of music theory. From that point I like to follow the students lead. They bring in songs that they would like to learn, or possibly how to play a certain style like Funk, or Blues, or how to approach a classical sonata. At every point I try to point out general aspects of music that need to be learned from the material that they choose.

About John

Hello, Thanks so much for taking the time to inquire about studying music with me. Music and studying music has always been a passionate experience for me. I have been so blessed with the teachers and fellow musicians in my life. You should realize that your study of music may start with me,

My experience with Kathy has been great. It's been roughly five months and I learned a lot and I'm also much more confident to sing. Learning the right techniques is crucial. Kathy is extremely patient and she adapts the classes to the student goals and aspirations. English is not my first language and she was also always very respectful and patient in explaining everything twice or maybe three times until I get it.

Kathryn has a terrific demeanor, and provides clear, thoughtful suggestions for technique!

Terrible. Only taught 30 minutes out of 60 minute sessions. On the 3 session I mentioned it and he said he didn’t think my son needed more than that even though we paid for it. Was so disrespectful!!!! Never again!!! Highly unprofessional when asked about why he cut the lessons short. Please don’t leave your kids with this instructor work paying attention. He will get over on you if he thinks you’re not involved.

"Ray is truly a fantastic teacher. I'm learning jazz after having a background in classical piano and he is incredibly knowledgeable in both, and has been an amazing resource for theory and concepts and how to apply them in a structured and consistent way. I am so glad to have found him, he's one of the best piano teachers I've ever had."

"Kathryn has helped me in my musical journey for a very long time! Over the 15 years I have worked with Kathryn she has been a teacher, life coach, and now musical colleague. Kathryn's teaching style is always warm and very informative. She builds confidence on something I did well, then gives me recommendations on how to improve either a technical skill or with musicality of the piece we are working on. After every lesson, I come out feeling improved and more confident than when I went in. Kathryn has guided me in both classical and musical theater pieces as well as introduced me some very interesting contemporary songs that I have greatly enjoyed. With her guidance and instruction, I have grown into a musician that is confident in my own abilities for preforming and a caring instructor to my own students. I highly recommend studying with Kathryn if you have the chance. It is a fantastic learning experience every class!"

She seems enthusiastic and directed as I haven't seen her been before and she has been taking piano from two other teachers in the course of five years. Thank you Rebekah!"

"Learning piano with Josh has been an amazing experience!

I learned rigorous classical piano playing for 10 years growing up, but I was never able to find fun in it that I end up giving it up in high school. Beginning of this year, I decided to give it another try, and wanted to learn popular music and music theory as a change.

It was very fortunate that I found Josh. He is a very talented musician as well as a great teacher - a unique rare combo. He always tailors his teaching to my level and learning speed, teaches in a very interactive way with lots of examples, balances the pace of each lesson nicely between reviewing past material and stretch the learning horizon with new materials, and his love and passion in music come through and it is infectious. He also is very humble and curious and constantly seek feedback and new ideas to improve his teaching.

Now instead of dragging my feet to piano lessons, I actually practice daily at home and look forward to each weekend piano lesson with Josh. I'm so glad I found him as my teacher and would highly recommend anyone who'd like to learn music and have a ton of fun in the process!"

"Emily does a great job communicating with my 6 year old daughter at a level she can understand. What I like most about Emily is that she doesn't get stuck on one thing. If she tries an exercise or technique that my daughter doesn't get, she moves onto something else until she finds what works for my daughter. Great teacher!"
