I've been sewing my clothes since 13. I was supporting myself during my years in Art Institute by sewing for clients. After graduating I partnered with SBA Concern and my designs were produced commercially. In 1994 I got award for pachwork design from French magazine "Modes & Travauch". I can teach how to sew from table runner to coat and beyond.

About Dovile
I began teaching while studying in Art Institute. My first students were 5 to 7 yr. old kids. It was very challenging, but also very rewarding. I was teaching them skills, they were teaching me patience. Later the age of my students grew, until I ended up teaching the same students I was in the same classes just 6 months ago. Again another challenge. I love challenges and even more I love helping others to overcome them.
My philosophy about teaching is that everybody can learn, it is only the way how we learn is different for different people. Another very important thing - I strive to be creative, respectful and approachable.

Sewing safety and how to use a machine, the sewing tools you'll need, how to read, cut out, layout, and follow pattern instructions, how to sew different stitches and using the correct length, pin and sew a seam, finish seams and sew hems, sew a zipper or an elastic waistband.
~We will be working towards sewing a basic pattern (i.e. tote, PJ bottoms, etc) or whichever project the student brings in
~To get the most out of your lessons I highly recommend doing at least an hour long session
~A lesson plan will be sent to the student before their first lesson outlining the guidelines and key skills you will be learning each session.

Intermediate students must know all of the above and can bring in their own project. I also offer overlock/serger lessons if interested.

About Karla
Hello! My name is Karla and I love all things artsy and crafty. I learned to sew when I was 9 and have been improving my skills since then by taking classes or just trying things out on my own. I'm currently taking classes to get certified as a Pattern Maker, which is another passion of mine linked to the fashion industry. I've also spent the last year and a half building my Etsy shop for custom designed clothing for women and children. Since I also have my degree in Theater and Dance I enjoy being a freelance costume designer for dance or theater companies; creating custom designs for their shows.

After years working in fashion industry in NYC, I feel the desire to share and pass on my skills to the people who have great passion either in design or sewing but lack of the skills. I have verity of teaching materials and subjects. It all depends on what you need and what you want to achieve. Seeing my students grow and eventually finish a project on their own without my help is the best reward for me as a teacher.

About Vena
I'm a fashion designer and have worked in fashion industry in NYC for more than 8 years with a fashion design degree from Parsons. I worked at varies companies such as DKNY, ELIE TAHARI, BLK DNM. My specialty is in sewing, patternmaking, draping, tailoring and fitting. I have a great passion in teaching and extremely patient. I provide the best quality and hands on sewing skills that we use in the industry. The courses are designed and catered to your needs. If you would like to learn how to draft a pattern from scratch to make your own clothes or alter your clothes that would fit you, I will show you how to achieve that step by step. I look forward to having a great sewing time with you.

Vena is a phenomenal teacher. She really ensures that you understand the concepts fully when teaching and doesn't rush through anything to fit it within a certain time frame. In our first day, she helped me learn the semantics of patternmaking and sewing and apply it visually to a dress form! For any beginner or someone who needs to solidify their foundation, Vena is a great instructor!

Complete misunderstanding on the 24th with the scheduling and payment. Jennifer called and all was worked out. She was more than happy to help my granddaughter on her design project.
