Resources for Singing in Corona, CA

By Milton J. - Corona Singing Teacher

Are you interested in taking singing lessons in Corona? Look no further than The Circle City! My name is Milton Jackson, and I teach vocal lessons in Corona, CA. With a lively music scene for a well spread-out city and its proximity to world-class attractions, concert halls, amphitheaters, and arenas, there are quite a few places to go to both showcase your talents and be around fans of your favorite acts and artists.

Here are a few points of interest, local music hotspots, and performing organizations in Corona that may help you find wonderful resources to aid you in your singing lessons:

1) Music and Arts Center (http://stores.musicarts.com/corona) – This is our local Sam Ash-esque music shop to find a good selection of sheet music, how-to books, and instruments. If you’re looking for a pitch pipe to accompany you in your singing lessons or a new song to learn with your new TakeLessons teacher, the Corona Music Center is a good place to start.

2) Live From Memphis Piano Bar (http://www.livefrommemphispianobar.com/) – This wonderful bar and restaurant feel like it was plucked from the streets of Memphis. Expect a wide variety of quality entertainment six days a week, from an all-request, sing-along dueling piano show to a headlining concert to a country band! Take a gander, as there’s a good chance you could find yourself performing there!

3) Rockefellas (http://rockefellasbar.com) - If you’re of age and enjoy the dive bar vibe, wonderful live bands strut their stuff on the Rockefellas stage. If you’re a frontman or woman of a band, this is a wonderful gig place for your shows to show off what you’ve learned in your lessons!

4) The Vibe (https://www.facebook.com/TheVibeBarAndGrill) – this Riverside hotspot for the college-age crowd near University of California, Riverside is a great place to discover local R&B, hip hop, pop, and rock talent. Head out for a Friday with your friends and you may find a new artist for collaboration in the future!

5) Fox Theatre and Riverside Municipal Auditorium (http://www.riversidelive.com) – These recently renovated venues are wonderful places to take in a musical or concert. Both theatres bring in top-tier performers, so make sure to check the calendar to see when your favorite show or artist is coming to town!

6) Circle City Chorale/Circle City Singers (http://circlecitychorale.org) - A relatively new choir founded in January 2010, the Circle City Chorale is comprised of singers 18+ from Corona and surrounding areas. They have performed at Corona's 4th of July parade & festivities at Santana Park, at the Empty Bowls fundraiser in Norco, Corona's Day of the Child event, Corona's Tree Lighting Ceremony, Riverside’s Festival of Lights event, and the tree lighting ceremony at Crossroads Church. They have grown in size, repertoire, and audience attendance at their seasonal shows every year, and are a wonderful group to showcase your love for singing!

Have fun finding new music to learn, watch, and love in Corona! Keep in mind that the best fitting teacher for your singing goals and daily practice will help you hit those goals in a timely and enjoyable manner. Enjoy your singing lessons in Corona!

Milton J.

Corona, CA

About Milton

Hey there, everyone!

My name is Milton Carl Jackson II and I teach vocal, guitar, piano, and musical theatre lessons in the Inland Empire area.

I help those young, middle-aged, and not-as-young tap into their own soul through music so that they may help others find theirs as well. I believe that in order to entertain others with your voice or your instrument, one must first be able to entertain oneself - all the while having fun doing it! As a recent graduate of the University of California, Davis with a double major in Music History & Ethnomusicology and African-American & African Stud
ies; a former co-host of the popular hip-hop radio show ATF Radio: All Things Fresh on KDVS 90.3 FM; a former Music Director of The Afterglow of UC Davis; and a recently graduate of the University of Redlands with a Master's in Music Education, I have come in contact and learned from a vast amount of different musicians and professionals. A classically-trained bass-baritone with roots in R&B, Soul, Rock, Pop, and Jazz, I have aspirations to help each and every student realize their full musical potential.

If you're looking for a teacher who will motivate and inspire you not only to learn your instrument of choice, but also how to perform it (whether on the big stage or in your living room for the family) and record it as well, I'm the perfect teacher for you. Learning to sing, play, and act beautifully doesn't have to be difficult -- we'll work on finding your voice or your style, all while having fun along the way!

I teach in-studio, in-home, and online lessons, so we can be flexible with the lesson type and schedule!

This is a perfect chance for you or your child who can't stop singing around the house or has dreams of shredding on the guitar or twinkling on the ivories to learn the fundamentals of music, start something new that keeps them or you focused, and have fun while doing it!

Feel free to contact me at show contact info for any questions and check out my student reviews and qualifications.

I look forward to meeting you and accompanying you or your child on your musical journey!!

Wonderful instructor! Milton has a great attitude and is a joy to be around. My son loves learning from him and we are very thankful for finding such a patient, creative and skilled instructor. Student's Review - Milton is an exciting and fun guitar teacher. He has exceeded expectations and made otherwise bland lessons interesting and fun. He is always quippy and easy to be around. Having him as an instructor has made me grow to love the guitar even more.

Lindsay P.

Riverside, CA

About Lindsay

Get ready to have fun learning how to sing! Every student has different needs and expectations and I'm very good at figuring out different ways to cater to every student. If you want to sing R&B, I'l help give you a little attitude, if you want to sing opera I'll help develop some elegance and everything in between. No matter what style you want to sing or how old you are I always start my students off with correct technique and proper ways to use your voice. That includes breathing, posture, and voice placement. Doing those properly at any age, level, or style will help you sing at your great
est potential.

When it comes to CHILDREN, I know how to make the lesson fun and exciting to keep their interest but to also help them learn. In the summer of 2013 I was in Shenzhen China as the music teacher/accompanist for a musical theater camp for children. I was also in Rio De Janeiro during 2013 teaching music to children in low income areas. I have experience working with all ages!

I am an experienced, enthusiastic music instructor, who started playing piano around 8 years of age and participated in many musical activities. I received my Bachelor of Music Education from the University of Massachusetts, majoring in Music Education (voice and piano). I have appeared around the world as a soloist singing jazz and pop, including the Blue Note, NYC, and appeared as a guest soloist at the 2000 Southern California Summer Special Olympics. I also participated in ensemble groups such as the Masterworks Chorale in NYC, and the Verdi Opera Chorus of Southern California; and curr
ently I volunteer at the Senior Center leading/accompanying the Sing-Alongs.

Inspired by my love of music, I have been teaching piano and voice for over 20 years from NY to LA and now Orange County. In conjunction with my teaching skills, I have excellent communication skills, patience and enthusiasm, and work well with children and all ages. I feel that music is an important part of education, and it aids in the development of cognitive and motor skills. And most of all, it is fun and rewarding, and a skill to last a lifetime!

Alex gives accordion class to my daughter and guitar classes to my other daughter. We are in Texas and we do it through Skype. Alex is cool with kids, motivates them, genuinely wants to understand what motivates them and what kind of music they like. For the first time in years, no more fighting about daily practice! My kids are happy wth the classes and motivated. Great teacher!

Alex is an excellent teacher. While he is a very accomplished musician he communicates in ways I can understand as a beginner. He quickly identifies areas I need to work on and both shows and tells me how to do that. He encourages questions as well as creativity that builds on the basics. He makes good use of the lesson time and is very encouraging. I can easily take what I learn in the lesson and practice it on my own. I look forward to my next lesson!

Best classical guitar teacher ever! Alex is a very easy-going, super friendly and straightforward teacher. He has an amazing ability to make complicated guitar techniques into very easy tasks. I surprised how much I learned just from his first lesson and how much I improved in a week. I would recommend any student regardless your age and level to study with him. You will get your money worth.

What's inside the singing lesson?

Lessons revolve around three basic aspects which are training, singing, and acting.

In training, definitely be ready for some scale exercises. If you want to work on making your vibrato faster, breathe better, sing more loud or soft, sing short or longer phrases, co
ntrolling your mix, executing your melismas, r&b licks, blue notes, bending notes, singing super high notes and transitioning down to lower notes: balancing head and chest voice, and expanding your range, then vocal training is what you'll need. Most of this activity involves matching sounds to custom scales played on a piano.

In singing, definitely have a song in mind you want to work on. Then we'll discuss which techniques and skills that are essential for that particular genre of music. Other than that, you'll learn singer's diction and will know how to control vowel sounds and consonants more efficiently. Most of this activity involves you singing either a line, a verse, chorus, bridge, or the entire song. It really depends on what level you feel comfortable at. Most of this activity revolves around breathing techniques, phrasing techniques, and you singing the melody correctly on pitch.

In acting, whether you're recording or performing, you'll still need to put an act together. Portrayal of emotions are quite the essential skills to make your sound believable. If singing with feeling is not working out for you, then you might want to consider working on some basic acting skills. Some of the skills covered are voice inflections, rhythm, gestures, body language, and facial expressions. Most of this activity involves you expressing yourself as an artist.

How to be prepared for the lesson?

If you do not have a piano or recording device on hand, I'll provide both devices for you. It's recommended to provide a piano. It doesn't have to be expensive, it just has to be in tuned. If it's digital, you should be fine. It's also recommended to have a recording device. Many clients enjoy recording their lessons on their mp3 players or any other computer devices. Please have a clean and clear space with an electrical outlet for the piano and recording device. Other than that, please wear comfortable clothing as if you are about to play a sport or an activity you enjoy. If you want to dress like a super star that's fine too.

If you're taking lessons online, don't worry about anything because everything will be provided.

Varin is nice. My mom hired him so I could sing solos at my church. I go to Jurupa Hills High and I run track. On my spare time, I sing and play piano. Singing has always been a passion of mine. Learning with Varin is always fun! He's not mean or strict with my voice. He is good. You should try him.

Hey all, I met through a friend of a friend. He's definitely a lot cheaper here = /

Any ways, I think he's worth every penny hehe

I'm an actress and I was really weak in the singing department until a close friend of mine referred his singing coach.

I am pursuing my dream in New York right now. I don't think I would be able to compete out here without Varin. XOXOXOXOXOO
