Resources for Singing in Corona, CA

By Milton J. - Corona Singing Teacher

Are you interested in taking singing lessons in Corona? Look no further than The Circle City! My name is Milton Jackson, and I teach vocal lessons in Corona, CA. With a lively music scene for a well spread-out city and its proximity to world-class attractions, concert halls, amphitheaters, and arenas, there are quite a few places to go to both showcase your talents and be around fans of your favorite acts and artists.

Here are a few points of interest, local music hotspots, and performing organizations in Corona that may help you find wonderful resources to aid you in your singing lessons:

1) Music and Arts Center (http://stores.musicarts.com/corona) – This is our local Sam Ash-esque music shop to find a good selection of sheet music, how-to books, and instruments. If you’re looking for a pitch pipe to accompany you in your singing lessons or a new song to learn with your new TakeLessons teacher, the Corona Music Center is a good place to start.

2) Live From Memphis Piano Bar (http://www.livefrommemphispianobar.com/) – This wonderful bar and restaurant feel like it was plucked from the streets of Memphis. Expect a wide variety of quality entertainment six days a week, from an all-request, sing-along dueling piano show to a headlining concert to a country band! Take a gander, as there’s a good chance you could find yourself performing there!

3) Rockefellas (http://rockefellasbar.com) - If you’re of age and enjoy the dive bar vibe, wonderful live bands strut their stuff on the Rockefellas stage. If you’re a frontman or woman of a band, this is a wonderful gig place for your shows to show off what you’ve learned in your lessons!

4) The Vibe (https://www.facebook.com/TheVibeBarAndGrill) – this Riverside hotspot for the college-age crowd near University of California, Riverside is a great place to discover local R&B, hip hop, pop, and rock talent. Head out for a Friday with your friends and you may find a new artist for collaboration in the future!

5) Fox Theatre and Riverside Municipal Auditorium (http://www.riversidelive.com) – These recently renovated venues are wonderful places to take in a musical or concert. Both theatres bring in top-tier performers, so make sure to check the calendar to see when your favorite show or artist is coming to town!

6) Circle City Chorale/Circle City Singers (http://circlecitychorale.org) - A relatively new choir founded in January 2010, the Circle City Chorale is comprised of singers 18+ from Corona and surrounding areas. They have performed at Corona's 4th of July parade & festivities at Santana Park, at the Empty Bowls fundraiser in Norco, Corona's Day of the Child event, Corona's Tree Lighting Ceremony, Riverside’s Festival of Lights event, and the tree lighting ceremony at Crossroads Church. They have grown in size, repertoire, and audience attendance at their seasonal shows every year, and are a wonderful group to showcase your love for singing!

Have fun finding new music to learn, watch, and love in Corona! Keep in mind that the best fitting teacher for your singing goals and daily practice will help you hit those goals in a timely and enjoyable manner. Enjoy your singing lessons in Corona!

About Milton

Music is the means to create a portal into our souls, so that we may see each other for who and what we are, not merely as what we do. I want to help foster those young, middle-aged, and not-as-young how to tap into their own soul portals through music so that they may find others' as well. I believe that in order to entertain others with your voice or your instrument playing, one must first be able to entertain oneself - all the while having fun doing it! As a recent graduate of the University of California, Davis with a double major in Music History & Ethnomusicology and African-American &
African Studies; a former co-host of the popular hip-hop radio show ATF Radio: All Things Fresh on KDVS 90.3 FM; a former Music Director of The Afterglow of UC Davis; and a current Vocal Music Performance graduate student at the University of Redlands, I have come in contact and learned from a vast amount of different musicians and professionals. A classically-trained bass-baritone with roots in R&B, Soul, Rock, Pop, and Jazz, I have aspirations to help each and every student realize their full musical potential.

*** Lesson Details ***
My teaching style is very friendly, inviting, and audience-driven. In the beginning, I strive to refer to my presence in the lessons as a fly-on-the-wall, so to speak, in order for my students to get out of their own way and sing as if no one's watching. From there, I apply the audience aspect - singing not only for enjoyment, but for entertainment for yourself and for others as well. If one is able to build that frame of mind in their lessons, their actual performances will not be too far from what they've already dealt with before.

I provide teaching and repertoire books, as well as instrumentation for myself (i.e. guitar, misc. tools for specific lessons). I expect my students to provide a piano (or keyboard equivalent), pitch pipe, and instrument if applicable (i.e. guitar), and, of course, themselves!

*** Studio Equipment ***

Wonderful instructor! Milton has a great attitude and is a joy to be around. My son loves learning from him and we are very thankful for finding such a patient, creative and skilled instructor. Student's Review - Milton is an exciting and fun guitar teacher. He has exceeded expectations and made otherwise bland lessons interesting and fun. He is always quippy and easy to be around. Having him as an instructor has made me grow to love the guitar even more.

Milton is a great teacher! He explains everything, teaches you theory and proper techniques. He is down to earth and makes you feel comfortable. He pushes you out of your comfort zone, but in a good way so that you can grow as a singer. I am very glad I chose to take lessons with him!

Great Music Teacher!

James is teaching my daughter how to play the guitar. I'm really pleased with the progress my daughter is making as a result of James' teaching. He knows his guitar and many other facets of music! He is also patient and can properly explain concepts in a way that is easily understood. When it was time for my daughter to buy her own guitar and accessories, James was very helpful with recommendations. He is very professional and has a friendly personality. His influence in my daughter's life has heightened her enthusiasm for both playing the guitar and music in general.

A Gem

Alex has been a joy for my daughter to work with. He has been working with her a little over a year. She has grown in her music but most of all in the life lessons he has taught her along the way. Alex on a weekly basis connect his music lessons to life lessons for Whitney. It's amazing to listen to her play each week as she develops in her music and a joy to watch her maturity in managing life's challenges. He has been a great source of support for her. We love you Alex!!! Your the best.

I will definitely recommend Alex...

Alex is awesome, my only concern was that he came not clearing his schedule accurately with his office and he was stressed out fixing his teaching schedule during my kid's time slot. I do understand that its our first time and looks like office made the mistakes. But, it could have handled in a better way like way before or after.

Oh Man! Marty is THE BEST GUITAR TEACHER you can hope for! Music is his brain and he was easily able to break concepts and techniques down to make learning feel easy, productive and fun. I got to know Marty while taking lessons and his whole life has been music. He is highly respected in the music industry for his skills and knowledge, he's not just some guitar enthusiast, he is THE GUITAR MAN, he knows the people who make the guitars. He can play any instrument you put in his hands and playback any song by ear. He is super impressive and loves teaching, so he makes it very fun!

He will start by teaching you the chords of your favorite songs (mine were some simple Tracy Chapman songs) so it's motivating to go home and practice knowing you're soon to jam out and play music that you love. I can't say enough awesome things about this teacher. Seriously, if you want to learn in a mind opening and fun way, there's no other teacher I would recommend.
