Lessons are always designed to be educational, engaging & fun, combining a balance of learning notation, playing by ear & performance with other live instruments! I began learning drums through Rock Band, yes.. I said a video game. After a month or two I was playing songs on hard or expert difficulty and I soon began applying the rhythms and rudiments I was learning in Rock Band to a real drum set. I began playing drums every day. I played in a few different bands in my teen years, recorded in studios and currently I accompany musicians around San Diego regularly.

Rhythm is one of the essential elements of music. A background in drumming can help you to better understand any instrument.

My drum lessons are the most fun for many reasons. I focus you on the music you love, stay as far away from boring material as possible, while teaching you the most important aspects of drumming such as technique, hand positions, posture, pocket, feel, timing, ect. But I use music as the guidance system. We will cover drum rudiments, we will cover different genres like Rock, Pop, Metal, Hip Hop, Classic Rock, Reggae, EDM. We will have a blast.

Lesson regiments are tailored to synthesize student goals and musical passions, setting a foundation in the instrument of interest.

Technique and practice-exercises provide the core for study and development (but we won't let that get in the way of the fun!).

My teaching philosophy largely derives from experience with master-drummers of different fields of study; therefore, my modality is a synthesis of concepts designed to ensure anyone's improvement. We all have rhythm!
