Annalise S.

Yucaipa, CA

About Annalise

I was born and raised in Yucaipa, CA and I have a Bachelor of Music in vocal performance from the University of Redlands. I have been performing for 12 years. Some of my favorite roles include Penny (Hairspray), Tessie Tura (Gypsy), The Baker's Wife (Into the Woods), Joy (Rogers and Hammerstein's Cinderella), Jenny (Company), Joanne (RENT), Jan (Grease), Milly (Seven Brides for Seven Brothers), Abigail Adams (1776), and Despina (Cosi Fan Tutte). I was artistic director for the University of Redlands Musical Theatre Company for two years and sang for the 2008 Beijing Olympic Arts Festival. I
am also an alumni of The American Theatre Wing's SpringboardNYC program.

"There is a vitality, a life force, a quickening that is translated through you into action and because there is only one of you in all time, this expression is unique.
And if you block it, it will never exist through any other medium and will be lost. The world will not have it. It is not your business to determine how good it is nor how valuable it is nor how it compares with other expressions. It is your business to keep it yours clearly and directly, to keep the channel open.
You do not even have to believe in yourself or your work. You have to keep open and aware directly to the urges that motivate you.
Keep the channel open. No artist is pleased. There is no satisfaction whatever at any time. There is only a queer, divine dissatisfaction, a blessed unrest that keeps us marching and makes us more alive."

-Martha Graham to Agnes de Mille

*** Lesson Details ***
As a teacher, I am very positive, patient, and I work hard to understand and cater to a student's taste in music, theatre, art, and information. I focus 50% of my performance lessons on physical and vocal warm-ups and 50% on the student's chosen repertoire. I believe in working towards a goal, so I always push my students to perform. I keep a calendar of auditions that I encourage my students to attend.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Private room with a baby grand piano, full length mirror, other various instruments, and a waiting room with comfy couches. I have two cats and a dog who never go in the music room, but I make no promises for the waiting area.

*** Specialties ***
I specialize in dramatic, comedic, and musical theatre, opera, jazz, pop, drawing, writing/grammar, and reading comprehension.

Annalise has a very impressive background in music and education, and it really reflects through her lessons with my daughter. She has instilled a lot of confidence in my daughter, to the point that she tried out for, and made, Advanced Choir at her school. I very highly recommend Annalise!

About Jessie

Every student is a unique person who deserves a lesson customized to his or her individual needs. Each of my students prospers in an atmosphere of patience and encouragement. While the lessons are fun and enjoyable, the serious student will be supported in the development of skills leading to a rewarding career. And the more casual students will grow in an appreciation of music that will always enrich their lives.

As a music major I developed a deeper understanding of music theory, piano, voice, and theater. I received my A.A. in Music at College of the Desert and my Bachelor of Music degre
e at the University of Redlands- which I attended on a music scholarship. I have played leading roles in several operas and musicals in Southern California, including Gianni Schicchi, Die Fledermaus, La Boheme (DTL nominee), The Impresario, The Grand Duke, Patience (DTL award), Cosi fan tutte, Little Women the Musical, Seussical the Musical, and many more. I have also appeared in several concerts, opera scenes, competitions (winning music scholarships and theater awards), and worked as a singer at churches, restaurants, and in pop bands. I continue to perform and study music because performing is a part of who I am and I could never live without it.

With this experience under my belt, I feel a desire to pass on my knowledge to students. I carry a strong passion to help people develop their abilities and make them their own. I truly believe that if someone wants something out of life then they WILL achieve it with dedication, perseverance, confidence, and by having FUN doing it!

UNIVERSITY OF PHOENIX— Pasadena, CA
Master of Business Administration (MBA)

I absolutely love teaching! I've been teaching music for over 25 years!
That's all I've ever known. Coming from a family of educators and musicians of two generations we wanted to do something for the community, so I co-founded Piano Play Music Systems,Inc. (an award winning inclusive private & group music program for children voted” The Best Piano School for Kids in LA”) 400+ student aged 19 months -
adults. I further developed an advanced group piano pedagogy series of method books by editing, creating and developing characters, lyrics for songs within the books to enhance more enthusiasm for learning with older children.
As a trained music therapist, I also co-founded Keylife Foundation,(a non-profit organization that offers services for special needs children, primarily in the autism spectrum). Developed a keyboard program and curriculum with the Braille Institute of Los Angeles and other special needs children focusing on mainstreaming them into regular classes. Music is such a gift to give to others and its an art that is non-judgemental. Its all about you. That's what I want to bring the student--to love and enjoy. If its a recital you want, you can have that too!

I am a current member Music Teachers Assn. of California which can give my students a platform to perform and participate in competitions in the future as well.

*** Lesson Details ***
I believe lessons should have balance. I am going to give my very best to you in our time together, so let's rock it. I want you to get it and hopefully love it. We know you have a life, but put some time into your exercises and music and you will see progress.
I work well with children, but love adults too! If you want fundamentals, you've got the right lady. I teach classical repertoire and technique as well as pop, rock, standards. If you want more theory or ear training, I can do that too! Just Do it !

*** Travel Equipment ***
If we are able do additional computer theory, I will bring a laptop. I expect my students to have a full sized keyboard (if possible)or piano.

*** Specialties ***
Pretty general, across the board from Classical to pop.

Over the course of my vocal studies at the University of Redlands I had the privilege of working with two wonderful instructors: Professor Marco Schindelmann and Dr. Tosh. My junior year, however, I had a unique opportunity to take lessons with Brad, a grad student whom I sang next to in Chapel Singers. When my choral instructor Dr. Andrews first told me about the opportunity to study with Brad I was elated!

Working with Brad that year was the best decision I made. Not only did he take a particular interest in helping me grow, I really felt Brad took time to understand my voice and he really made sure to challenge in ways that I would be receptive to. Also, he is just a phenomenal singer himself with a beautiful voice, and I believe this is vital to picking a teacher.

At the time I was studying with Brad I was also reading The Free Voice: A Guide to Natural Singing by Cornelius L. Reid. If you are a vocal student and you have not read this, you are making a big mistake. But the reason I bring it up is because Brad's teaching really alined with what I was reading. Brad is living proof of the techniques I was reading about, and this was extremely beneficial to my personal growth. This book helped me understand not only my own voice, but the reasons Brad is such an amazing, intuitive teacher.

If you have an opportunity to work with Brad, take it!
I know you will not be disappointed!

I have taken classical voice lessons with Bradley for the past year. Bradley is an incredibly talented vocalist, performer, and teacher. I have seen major improvements in my technique, breathing, and range. He has challenged me and made me work diligently to become a better vocalist. He is supportive and engaged and he has helped me set realistic and achievable goals. I always feel positive and encouraged after leaving a session. I highly recommend working with Brad!

I attended the University of Redlands with Bradley and was fortunate to work alongside him in Lehar's The Merry Widow. Bradley is one of the most professional and polished musicians that I worked with, and he has a great personality and sense of humor! I would highly recommend him as a voice teacher. He is very knowledgeable about singing and has a great deal of experience.
