I emphasize authenticity in acting, particularly acting through song. I have worked with a variety of acting coaches throughout my career, many of whom have taught performers famous for their skill, and I have crafted a unique and child-friendly approach to the abstract art of acting. Acting is not something that is simply taught, but discovered, and I have had great success with my students in the past with my technique.

About Mariana
Hello! After earning my Bachelor of Music degree in Classical Voice from Hunter College in 2011, I have been working successfully as a singer, voice coach, and academic tutor. As a singer, over the past 8 years I have performed at professional theaters across the country, including Off-Broadway and at the world-renown Carnegie Hall. I specialize in musical theatre, but have a thorough classical technique, as well as strong pop/rock/belt training.

My teaching style is highly energetic, and engages the development of the student's self-esteem and enjoyment, but is also focused on a foundational technique and strong work-ethic. I am extraordinarily proud of the accomplishments many of my students have made, from achieving principal parts in their school productions, to even getting cast in Broadway shows. I am determined to help every on
e of my students reach their greatest potentials.

As a tutor, my approach is no different. Trained in the highly specialized and effective Lindamood-Bell programs, I have an intuitive grasp of children's needs and levels. I teach decoding, math, and reading comprehension, and nurture students' self-esteem and independence in their learning.

I give lessons in 30, 45, and 60 minute increments. Each lesson will be personalized to the specific needs of the student.

We practiced the new cadence for example of the deceptive cadence, the plagal cadence, and the phrygian. we learnt the basic root progression. a standard method of connecting triads with roots a fifth apart is to hold the common tone in the same voice and move all the other parts to the closest possible chord number. We learn about mediant triads s well.some ways using cadence that I can expand my harmonization practice is in general, when tempted to part write or analyze a chord in common-practice music as iii (in major), give the context further thought. i imagine with this knowledge it ill help me to compose a better harmonize song.
We practice together the scale degrees that are designated by Arabic numerals (1, 2, 3...), chor ds are similarly designated by Roman numerals (I, II, III). For example, in the key of C major the notes are C,D,E,F,G,A,B and we have designated them as 1,2,3,4,5,6,7. However, when we consider the triad chords in the key of C we have Cmaj, Dm, Em, Fmaj, Gmaj, Am, Bdim. These are designated I,II,III,IV,V,VI,VII. When speaking about these chords, for instance in the key of C major, we would call Gmaj the five chord, Dm the two chord,

The easiest way to find an interval's name is to first, count all the pitch names present, including the notes themselves (ignore sharps and flats at this point). Then, find out (had it been missing a flat or sharp) what type of interval it would be, depending on whether it is perfect (a 1,4,5,8) or major (2,6,7). If there are no sharps or flats, you are done. If there are, figure out if the flat or sharp decreases or increases the distance between the two pitches. If it increases the distance, the interval is augmented. If it decreases the distance, and the interval would otherwise be perfect, it is diminished. If it decreases the distance and the interval would otherwise be major, it is min that is what I learnt

Mariana was great! Very professional and able to explain the techniques in a very clear way. When I began, I was very nervous and self-conscious. She was patient and kind and never made me feel embarrassed!

She really knows her stuff and technique. I'd been to a few voice teachers before and they were great singers, but they didn't seem to have to really KNOW the techniques behind singing. Mariana clearly is a wonderful singer and has great training in what she does.

I am ready to meet with actors of all ages and experience levels. This business is fast moving and can be vague at times leaving you wondering what could you have done differently if you didn't book the job. I want you to succeed, but first you need the proper tools to get to that next level of your career. From my experience of working in LA and Chicago as well as drawing from previous instructors, you will learn more than just basic acting exercises. Gain an upper hand on your contemporaries!

About Christian
I am a working actor from Chicago as well as a member of SAG/AFTRA since 2009. Since graduating from Illinois State University in 2003, I hit the ground running and worked with Chicago Dance Crash for 3 years as a company member. I solidified my theater acting muscles for 4 years before moving to LA in 2007 and worked on 2 films, Heist and Ingles Ya in addition to national commercials for Soapnet, Gaterade and Pepsi, just to name a few. My most recent film, Markham Tactical premiered on August 6th in Chicago and will be debuting on the festival circuit in 2016. I also made my TV show debut in 2010 on Chicago Code. I followed that up with appearances on Mob Doctor, Crisis, Chicago Fire, Chicago PD and Empire. My theater work has included stops at Steppenwolf Theater, The Goodman Theater, Chicago Shakespeare, Timeline Theater, Lifeline Thea
ter, Illinois Theater Center.

Very knowledgable teacher! Christian is patient with me as a beginner and has a great teaching method whereby he never tells you exactly how to perform a piece, as that is not what acting is about.

I don't know about you (yes you, the one reading this), but I've been secretly wanting to act my whole life and am a full of life personality with hidden insecurities. Even though I have never really acted professionally, I have been theatrical and playing all sorts of characters, speaking in accents and dancing to everything in front of the mirror, in comfortable social gatherings and have even put on shows for my pets and husband! Last time I acted "professionally" was in a high school play. And even then, I mostly helped make the props!

I tell you this, because, with that kind of a background, nervous and yet SO excited to JUST TRY, I chose Christian as my teacher- my professor of Acting!

I am 3 classes in and Christian is very supportive, non-judgemental and extremely easy to learn with. I am impressed with his skills, his ability to immediately decipher something I'm trying to explain, and then how easy he makes it for me to put his constructive feedback into practice. The practice is not easy... because that stuff always takes hard work, but he explains it all so easily so I can start practicing and exploring the acting world. He is honest about the acting world, the people in it and the various steps it takes to get to wherever you are trying to get! So be honest with yourself and let this be an authentic and fun experience! Plus, it's so nice to talk to someone that actually gets what it's like to be dreaming!

Thanks Christian!

As the amazed grand-daughter of David Smason, a successful vaudeville Orchestra leader, I have enjoyed many years of educational and professional experiences as an actress, teacher, and director in venues of all sizes. Besides performing leading and supporting roles in over 30 productions, including Suzie-" Wait Until Dark", Rosemary- "How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying", Miss Mazeppa-"Gypsy", Lalume " Kismet", I also performed and/or staged several original reviews such as SF's " The Distractions", " On Being Female", and " The Van Spronsen Variety Showcase". About Abby
Due to my maternal grandfather's work as a Chicago vaudeville orchestra leader, from early childhood, the performing arts have been in my blood. Starting to study classical flute at age 12, then playing in the Seattle Youth Symphony Orchestras and taking professional jazz/classical flute workshops/master classes, I've been teaching and playing all styles of music professionally since my 20's.

Vocal study began at age 15 with some great artists/educators in SF, Seattle, and Europe, including Bobby McFerrin, Mark Murphy, Adrian West from NYC Broadway, David Tigner- SF Opera, Davida Kagan-Seattle Opera, and Roland Wyatt-
Manhattan Transfer coach /NY Academy of Dramatic Arts. Through many teaching years, I've developed a very successful, uniquely simple 8 part method to help cross cultural individuals and groups sing optimally from thei
r hearts. For all levels from beginners to professional. the necessary basic vocal techniques can be taught effectively in 4 to 8 lessons, though the process of becoming a successful artist continues during one's lifetime.

With a BA in Theater Arts from SFSU, and over 50 years directing, acting, and musical experience, including 15 years working successfully as an ESL educator, my experience has allowed me to help any student achieve their personal and/or professional goals.

Abby van Spronsen is an excellent teacher, who has helped me develop my voice and musical style before and during my Conservatory studies. She really takes time for her students and because of her musical background she knows about many different styles, from jazz to pop to musical and even classical music. She knows how to use this knowledge well in her classes and loves to teach, which makes her a very inspiring voice teacher. I have learned a lot during the time that I took classes from Abby.

First and foremost, I'd like to hear your objectives for your lessons so I can structure each time to suit your goals.
For advanced/intermediate students, we may be working on monologues or sides you've been sent for an audition (looking for specificity and strong, clear choices) or selecting materials for your audition package for colleges or general auditions.
For beginners, we may work on gaining confidence speaking publicly, diving into characters, and working with text to tell stories.

About Carissa
Hi! I'm Carissa, a working actor and playwright, and would love to work with you on your craft! I grew up heavily immersed in the arts from a young age. For Middle School and High School I attended one of the top Performing Arts schools in the State of California, where I was able to take classes such as ballet, tap, jazz, acting, and playwriting daily. After that, I earned a spot in, and graduated from, the BFA Acting program at the University of North Carolina School of the Arts. After taking a year to work professionally in theatre and television, I moved to Ireland to earn my MFA in Playwriting from The Lir Academy (an affiliate school of London's RADA). Teaching has been a big part of my life, from private study to running theatre camps for kids. I'm well versed in the drama school audition trail and would love to help you prepare fo
r this exciting time! I also offer playwriting lessons/critique, and beginner lessons in dance (ballet, jazz, tap). I look forward to hearing from you!

This is really a thorough journey into the art and craft of acting at its best. It is engrained in one of the original contributors of acting Michael Chehkov with a contemporary interpretation. It is very difficult to find this kind of a real REAL nature of acting kind of class. True learning experience. It is so specific in its technique and due to the nature of the small class you are given full attention. I took so much away from this class, that will stay with me forever!

For me as an actor, the benefit of a great coach or director has always been that they've helped me reach places in my work I couldn't have achieved on my own. As a coach myself, I'm most thrilled by those small (or monumental!) breakthroughs that my students and I discover together during the coaching process. The cool thing is that I've found the progress my students make in their craft will often inspire me to new heights in my own. (A bonus to already enriching work)!

If you want to develop new material for upcoming auditions, hone and refresh (or completely change) your monologues, or simply work on the craft of acting, I can help. I work to gear your coaching sessions to the goals you need to achieve, offering an experience created around what you need to work on and want to learn.

With a BFA in Acting and Directing, an MFA in Classical Acting, and over 20 years of professional acting experience in the theatre and on-camera, I can offer tools for your tool belt ...

About Jason
I've been performing roles in the theatre and on-camera for over 25 years. My BFA in Acting and Directing and my MFA in Classical Acting have afforded me a wide variety of tools and skills to employ in the craft of acting. Performing with professional repertory companies like ACT Theatre, Book-It Repertory, Shakespeare Santa Cruz, and the Shakespeare Theatre in DC, I've gained personal knowledge of the art, craft, and business of being a working actor, which I will put to work for you, in a personalized one-on-one coaching session, either online or in person.

Here's how I can help.

SCENE WORK AND MONOLOGUES: Whether it's dusting off and refreshing monologues you've performed more times than you can count, or developing pieces or scenes for the first time for an upcoming stage or on-camera audition, we can break the material down togethe
r, work on the clarity of your choices and active objectives, and access your personal connection to the material so you'll be ready and confident with a one-of-a-kind performance that reflects the strengths you bring to acting and the story you want to tell.

SHAKESPEARE: Perhaps the most daunting of styles for a contemporary actor, we'll get down to the nuts and bolts of some of the most challenging (and rewarding) material. The famous soliloquies are famous for a reason and can certainly be intimidating, and more obscure material can seem thick and inaccessible. We'll chip away at the mystique of Shakespeare by digging in to the text and verse, activating the language with specificity, and cultivating your personal take on well-known characters or lesser known material they might not have seen before.

DIALECTS AND ACCENTS: From English to Irish to Southern American and beyond, a well executed dialect can be the edge you need to land (and play) that meaty role. I use a multipronged approach that involves ear training to develop an authentic sound, text analysis for clarity of sound substitutions (IPA Proficient), and exercises that pare away stilted and unnatural speech to cultivate an authentic sounding voice that will be your own.

VOICEOVER: I've been booking voiceover gigs on TV, radio, and the internet for over 10 years with clients like Microsoft, Liberty Mutual, UW Medicine, Tableau, Reno Toyota, and Golden One State Credit Union. I can offer tips and tricks of the trade, as well as techniques that can take your VO submissions to the next level and help you book these lucrative contracts.

Let's get started!
