Cold reading and monologue. Scene study available with two students at the same location.

Meisner-based training. Audition preparation.

Actors learn how to lift the words from the page in an efficient way, while working deeply and in the moment to produce a nuanced performance.

This training is appropriate for film and TV, commercials and the stage.

Students must provide your own scripts, sides and materials. I can refer you to resources.

About Patricia
Whether your goal is to train for personal enjoyment or a professional career I'll help you achieve that goal. My voice students sing all styles of music. Piano students learn to play the music you want to play.

I teach private voice for The Young Americans College of Performing Arts. I've also taught for the Orange County School of the Arts (OCSA).

I currently sing jazz and selections from the Great American Songbook at local clubs and venues. In the classical realm, I performed professionally with Los Angeles Music Center Opera Association, with Opera Pacific and with the Los Angeles Master Chorale. I'm a San Mateo County Vocal Competition prize winner, and former staff soloist for the televised Crystal Cathedral Hour of Power Choir, and I've recorded at the historic Capital Records studios in Hollywood.

I honed my skills with
Natalie Limonick (formerly general director of the USC Opera Program, director of the UCLA Opera Workshop and Opera Guild of Southern California President), Esther Andreas (Metropolitan Opera), Naomi Farr (New York City Opera), Nina Hinson (San Francisco Opera), Marion Cooper, Dietrich Erbelding, Charles Ross Perlee (conductor, San Francisco Opera and Bremen Opera), and several other respected teachers and coaches.

I have an Emmy® for writing, I'm a former TV Arts & Entertainment news host and producer, NPR radio station affiliate jazz show host, and a former columnist for The Los Angeles Daily News. I'm a working spoken voice-over talent and an active member of SAG-AFTRA and AGMA.

Whether it's monologues, sides, or general scene work, I'll help you find the spontaneity, play, and braveness to let your work soar. My professional experience as an actor, director, and playwright allows me to approach our work from not only the actor's point of view but also that of the people who will be hiring you. After graduating from NYU Tisch, I joined Actors' Equity Association, have performed around the world (from Shakespeare's Globe in London to the New York Fringe), taught for the Atlantic Theater Company, the Dallas Children's Theater, and Junior Players, and coached actors privately for over a decade employing techniques that run the gamut from Commedia to Practical Aesthetics,

About Montgomery
In my years as a professional actor, playwright, filmmaker, and producer, I have extensive experience developing new work and young artists. I began my professional acting career at 8 years old, and since then have performed all over the world, from Shakespeare's Globe in London to Fort Worth, Texas, in world premieres and classics. I was nominated for Best Featured Actor and produced a play that won best New Short Script at the New York IT Awards; received a 2013 Dallas/Fort Worth Critics Forum Award for Best Actor; had plays developed at Kitchen Dog Theatre, Metropolitan Playhouse, and the Aviary, as well as semi-finalists at the Eugene O'Neill New Play Conference and Primary Stages's ESPA Drills New Play series. I have taught with the World Shakespeare Conference, Passion in Practice (in London and New York), Dallas Children's Theatre,
Atlantic Theater Acting School, among others, and coached actors who have been admitted into institutions including Julliard and NYU Tisch. My experience allows me experience, passion, and a keen eye for finding what will make you stand out in a way in your own unique way. We will unlock free, organic, and delightfully spontaneous work while giving you the skills to keep your preparation extensive and rigorous.

For me as an actor, the benefit of a great coach or director has always been that they've helped me reach places in my work I couldn't have achieved on my own. As a coach myself, I'm most thrilled by those small (or monumental!) breakthroughs that my students and I discover together during the coaching process. The cool thing is that I've found the progress my students make in their craft will often inspire me to new heights in my own. (A bonus to already enriching work)!

If you want to develop new material for upcoming auditions, hone and refresh (or completely change) your monologues, or simply work on the craft of acting, I can help. I work to gear your coaching sessions to the goals you need to achieve, offering an experience created around what you need to work on and want to learn.

With a BFA in Acting and Directing, an MFA in Classical Acting, and over 20 years of professional acting experience in the theatre and on-camera, I can offer tools for your tool belt ...

About Jason
I've been performing roles in the theatre and on-camera for over 25 years. My BFA in Acting and Directing and my MFA in Classical Acting have afforded me a wide variety of tools and skills to employ in the craft of acting. Performing with professional repertory companies like ACT Theatre, Book-It Repertory, Shakespeare Santa Cruz, and the Shakespeare Theatre in DC, I've gained personal knowledge of the art, craft, and business of being a working actor, which I will put to work for you, in a personalized one-on-one coaching session, either online or in person.

Here's how I can help.

SCENE WORK AND MONOLOGUES: Whether it's dusting off and refreshing monologues you've performed more times than you can count, or developing pieces or scenes for the first time for an upcoming stage or on-camera audition, we can break the material down togethe
r, work on the clarity of your choices and active objectives, and access your personal connection to the material so you'll be ready and confident with a one-of-a-kind performance that reflects the strengths you bring to acting and the story you want to tell.

SHAKESPEARE: Perhaps the most daunting of styles for a contemporary actor, we'll get down to the nuts and bolts of some of the most challenging (and rewarding) material. The famous soliloquies are famous for a reason and can certainly be intimidating, and more obscure material can seem thick and inaccessible. We'll chip away at the mystique of Shakespeare by digging in to the text and verse, activating the language with specificity, and cultivating your personal take on well-known characters or lesser known material they might not have seen before.

DIALECTS AND ACCENTS: From English to Irish to Southern American and beyond, a well executed dialect can be the edge you need to land (and play) that meaty role. I use a multipronged approach that involves ear training to develop an authentic sound, text analysis for clarity of sound substitutions (IPA Proficient), and exercises that pare away stilted and unnatural speech to cultivate an authentic sounding voice that will be your own.

VOICEOVER: I've been booking voiceover gigs on TV, radio, and the internet for over 10 years with clients like Microsoft, Liberty Mutual, UW Medicine, Tableau, Reno Toyota, and Golden One State Credit Union. I can offer tips and tricks of the trade, as well as techniques that can take your VO submissions to the next level and help you book these lucrative contracts.

Let's get started!

My son is very difficult to work with. He had never seen any reason to memorize a monologue word for word. Jason had a very difficult job ahead of him, getting my son ready for his auditions for college. Through working with Jason,my son realized the value of memorization, and practicing his monologue enough times to get it down. He is attending AMDA now, and he could have picked from three colleges that he auditioned for.

Jason kept his cool and worked well through all the little shows of emotion and pique that my son put on. Jason really came through for us and we will be using his services again for our daughter. Not only does Jason know his stuff, but he knows how to work with and handle teens.
