About Marilyn
Music Job History:
My music teaching/playing background includes: private piano instructor at home studio, elementary music teacher in Lewisville ISD and Odessa Public Schools, piano accompanist for middle school/high school band Solo Contests, and former church accompanist for Methodist churches. Was Elementary Principal at Owen Elementary, The Colony, Lewisville ISD
Personal Information:
Have 3 adult children
Love gardening, reading, playing piano, traveling

I believe performing is an important part of music learning, so I schedule at least 2 recitals each year. Some of my adults prefer not to perform and that is okay too. I am a member of Carrollton Music Teachers Association and through this association are festival opportunities 4 times a year for those students who are ready to play for a judge!. The more you perform,
the easier it gets!

*** Lesson Details ***
I believe that most people would say that they wish they could play the piano. Taking piano lessons keeps you practicing and working on improving your skills. I can always help a student to play better in some aspect of their playing. I break down skills into as small a step as needed so the student can understand what needs to be done. Reading music is similar to reading words, so sometimes the problem is not with the fingers being able to play, but what the student is seeing. I can take whatever series you are currently playing out of and move forward with you from that series.
Rhythm can often be a problem when playing and that usually is just a matter of getting that rhythm into your vocabulary and really hearing how it goes.
Fingering is another area that can be the reason that a passage is not working for you and I can help you figure those areas out. I always try to correct and help you improve by using humor and positive reinforcement.
We will spend some of every lesson sight reading (looking at music that you will practice at home). Improving your ability to read music at sight will make your piano playing more enjoyable for you.

As with any lessons, the more you practice, the more progress and fun you will have! Every student needs a spiral notebook that we will use to keep track of your lessons. I have found it best if I buy the books you need and then you pay me for the books - that keeps you from having to search at a music store for the correct books and I make sure you have the correct book/levels. If you prefer to find the books yourself, that will be fine also. I am flexible and want your piano playing years to be lifelong for you.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Yamaha Grand Piano, Baldwin Acrosonic Studio Piano, Suzuki 88 key electronic keyboard,

*** Specialties ***
*Teachers marked as a Student Favorite have taught a minimum of 25 lessons and have received the highest feedback rating from students.
Piano, Handbells, Music Theory, Sight reading
I can teach from any series, have tended to specialize more with beginning and intermediate students. I have taught from almost every series over the years.
Right now I have students in Faber & Faber, Bastien, John Thompson, Schaum, David Carr Glover, Hal Leonard, FJH, Dozen a Day, and Alfred series.
I think that breaking skills down into small steps works well for mastery and understanding. I like to expand my students' appreciation of different types of music, from classical to pop, looking for music that is at the student's playing level.

I have been teaching piano lessons for several years now, to students ranging from 4 to 50 years of age. In the first lesson, students can expect to learn the musical alphabet, location of middle C, the correct posture and hand position, as well as some simple musical exercises depending upon the student's age and ability. My goal in teaching is to help people gain an understanding and appreciation of the piano, as well as the workings of music as a whole. While my background is in classical piano, I enjoy working with students on any style of music that utilizes sheet music.

About Maureen
Maureen has been teaching private voice and piano lessons since 2009, and currently runs her own studio, as well as traveling to students' homes to teach lessons. She teaches anyone with an interest and willingness to learn, regardless of experience level.

Maureen received her Master of Music from the University of Maryland 2017 with an emphasis in Opera Performance. Her teaching style is tailored for each individual student, in that what works for one student won't necessarily work for the next (particularly in regards to singers), and strives towards finding the optimal method that encourages and helps students to improve. She firmly believes that anyone who is willing to dedicate the time and effort to learning a new instrument is capable of doing so, and looks forward to helping new students achieve their goals.

15 years ago, I started learning the piano and began my life-long pursuit of music. This pursuit has led me in a wide variety of directions. Today, I am currently a doctoral student at Wheaton Graduate School and hope to teach others the joy of playing the piano in my free time.

I have a passion for a wide variety of styles of music. For several years, I played professionally for weddings, shows, and musicals. I have led worship for churches in Michigan and Connecticut. At Yale, I was president of an organization called Yale Musical Cure, in which I played piano in hospitals, hospices, and charity concerts. While at Yale, I also studied theory, piano, sight-singing, and composition.

15 years ago, I started learning to play piano and began my life-long pursuit of music. This pursuit has led me in a wide variety of directions. Today, I enjoy teaching piano and sharing the love of music to students of all ages and abilities.

I have a passion for a wide variety of styles of music. For several years, I played piano professionally for weddings, shows, and musicals. I have led worship for many churches in Michigan and Connecticut. During my time at Yale, I led an organization called Yale Musical Cure, in which I coordinated and played piano concerts at hospitals, hospices, and benefit concerts. At Yale, I also gained teaching experience, and have loved teaching students ever since. During my time in Chicago for grad school, I regularly taught weekly lessons for 15 students of all ages and held annual recitals. In my ther
apy practice now, I love working with children at all developmental levels and with all abilities, gifts, and needs.

My teaching style varies from student to student. Music is a wonderfully diverse subject and every student has her or his own aspirations. I will do my best to cater each lesson to the student's goals and interests, whether that is classical, rock, jazz, folk, country, pop or anything in between.

Lessons will vary significantly from student to student. Not only does every student have different goals in mind, they all learn differently as well. I do my best to customize my lessons for each student's goals and needs. A typical piano lesson may involve music-reading, chord studies, technical work, scale practice, theory, and of course learning songs!

I am a flexible teacher and am excited to teach students to truly understand music and enjoy playing the piano. Please reach out if you have any questions or interest in taking lessons.

I care. I want students to enjoy learning, and am happy to be a part of their musical journey. I do treat students as individuals, and tailor lessons that are unique to each student based on their level, and talents. I also consider their personal goals and wishes, favorite music genres, and in many cases; parents' wishes. I try to help a student become a musician as well as a player by instructing them on theory, and technique. I also have an extensive performance background as a professional musician in classical, rock, and pop music which gives me a variety of stylistic choices to assist the student during lessons. I am a hard teacher; yet a fun teacher!

About Jamie Leigh
I am a professional vocalist and pianist. I perform and do studio work all over the country. I have studied music at North Texas State University (UNT), and at New England Conservatory in Boston. I am classically trained; however; my career has been made singing and playing comtemporary popular music. I also have professional theatre experience as well.

I have had the pleasure of teaching many students who have gone on to professional music careers. I am a very caring teacher, and will do my best to help a student become the best singer or player they can become. I am able to teach all styles of music. I am a very fun teacher; yet challenging teacher. I am encouraging, and I have years of training to share.

I have been performing in my band SHAZAM! as an encore favorite across the country. In 2012 I was a featured vocalist on Dymaxi
on Vehicle's CD....that recording won the coveted Artist In Music Award in Los Angeles. I have had a CORI Check as required by law to work with children. I am also a mother myself as well.

I tailor lessons based on the level, talent, skills, and areas needing work in the student's musical development process.I treat students as individuals...similar to a tutor or coaching relationship. Many students are naturally talented, and simply need more direction, and perhaps, technique, and basic music theory knowledge. In vocal study, proper breathing, vocal exercisers to improve singing and flexibility, and strength are part of lessons. In addition; I assist in choosing material, prepping for performances or auditions, and preserving and enhancing the natural voice of the student.

As a piano teacher; I can work with students at all levels as well. I am very good with beginners. I also have more to offer more advanced students in a concentration on technique, and add a music theory component to lessons as it helps them to become a better musician and instrumentalist. Thank you for your time!

Piano Lessons with me will cover the core and fundamentals of playing but I allow my students the authority to learn music and songs that they enjoy to ensure the lessons remain fun and entertaining. I want people to always learn the basics to lay the foundation but what propelled me to a higher level was always making to have fun as I progressed in my playing.

About Daniel
HI!

I'm Daniel Ray. I have been a musician for almost 20 years! I started playing at the Age of 7. I started on the Drumset, and at 10 I picked a Bass Guitar and at 11, the piano. The piano became my main instrument and is what I specialize in now. I am a music producer as well.

When learning from me, realize that you're going to have a lot of fun but you're going to learn what it takes to really learn and play like a professional. Remember, even the professionals are always learning and growing so the goal is to maintain a steady progression. You're going to do great if you just stay consistent, have fun, don't give up and PRACTICE. Don't be afraid to fail. Don't be afraid to mess up.

I will ensure that within 30-90 days, you see significant improvements in your playing! Schedule your lesson right away :-) !!!
