About LK
I am a singer-pianist-actor Or a pianist-singer-actor. :-)
I have a bachelors degree in voice performance and a minor in piano and theater.
I have a masters degree in voice as well as a second masters in piano literature.
i have a certificate in comedy improvisation from Second City and am a professional actor. I am the owner and senior talent agent of a large talent agency in the DFW area.
My post graduate work is in vocal pedagogy.
I have been a professional teacher and performer for over 20 years.
I own and manage a professional talent agency in the DFW area.
My students come in every model imaginable - and I wouldn't have it any other way. Raw beginner or veteran actor or musician, professional recording artist, College music major or American Idol wannabe.

The arts are such a great language for communicating. I grew up
with two parents who were professional musicians (mom is a concert pianist) and I also raised 3 children who are professional musicians. We made music our native language in our home. We all have the ability to speak music when it is spoken to us. I don’t ever remember not playing the piano. I started winning piano competitions in high school. I minored in piano, and then did additional post graduate work in piano. I “speak” piano. It has served me so well as a teacher, composer, opera coach. It is really a gateway to understanding all other instruments. The same scenario with my singing.

I began my professional career as an opera singer which has taken me around the world. I have premiered works by Leonard Bernstein and Samuel Adler in addition to principal roles and concert work with Pittsburgh Opera, The Pittsburgh Symphony, Dayton Opera, the Tuscia Opera Festival and hundreds of professional engagements. I have also had the wonderful opportunity to belt the National Anthem for several major league teams in a television appearance- and has done so on multiple occasions. (Pittsburgh Pirates, Pittsburgh Penguins, Pittsburgh Steelers, Cincinnati Reds) I am passionate about vocal jazz and musical theater and am frequently found as a performer in various national and regional venues. Feature concert works include PBS (Gershwin in Concert) as well as featured solo concert works (Pergolesi Stabat Mater) on Italian Public TV.

My approach to music has always been to do what you love. I have never limited myself as a performer to a genre or an instrument. I have explored, applied myself to and enjoyed a very diverse musical career. If you have a passion for an instrument or style of music let's start there first... and then let's discover together all the things you do that uniquely define your musicianship style.

Your lessons will always be engaging, challenging and fun!

I am very consistent in my approach to technique, my focus on goals and my demand for excellence. I constantly am working to access with you what your goals are and to provide feedback and support to help you achieve them.

I am very flexible in utilizing a wide variety of repertoire, resources etc. Your lessons are personalized to your skill set and your musical interests. I utilize audio and video recordings almost every week for all my students. I routinely promote and encourage my students to participate in a wide variety of competitions, recitals, workshops and master classes.

I have a very low turnover rate for students and a very high rate of students who have progressed to professional full time careers in music. Students like being a part of my studio and really like the confidence they have in their music abilities in a very short period of time.

I do not use the same curriculum for all students, in face, each curriculum is customized for that student. The components are similar: technique, repertoire, theory, listening, composing, recording and performing.

You can expect the following:You will feel very encouraged and supported in your talent. You will have measurable improvement in your skills. You will have a personal advocate to encourage and direct you in finding and creating opportunities to succeed in your music personally, academically and professionally.

I can't wait to get started!

About Mary
Mary is a Tony nominated writer, actress, and teacher whose Broadway credits include Martha Jefferson in "1776" and Grace Farrell in "Annie". She was a starring soloist In Leonard Bernstein's "Mass" at the Kennedy Center and the Metropolitan Opera and toured as featured vocal with Michel LeGand in concerts including Carnegie Hall. Off Broadway credits include her own musical, "Cradle Song". She studied voice with the great Sue Seton and later with opera star and tenor coach at the Metropolitan Opera, Felix Knight. She teaches a combination of both their legendary techniques. As an actor, she studied acting with Sanford Meisner in NYC, the Rheinhardt Seminar in Vienna, Austria and has been teaching and directing beginning, intermediate and professionsl singers and actors for over fifteen years. Former students have appeared on "Thirt

Her goal in working with her students is not only to teach healthy vocal technique, but in keeping with her theatre background, her strong belief that "Every song is a scene or monoglogue" leads her to make sure the student know what they are singing or speaking about, and can do so with a clarity of emotion and dramatic intent.
She has a BA in theatre/voice from the University of Kansas where she serves on the Advisory Board For the Department of Theatre and Film and has an MFA from the Graduate Musical Theatre Writing Program at NYU Tisch School of the Arts where she is a guest lecturer. To watch these young men and women become more and more accomplished is a marvelous thing. She inspired them all."...Mark St. Germain, Obie winning playwright.

In a one hour lesson, we will spend twenty five minutes on vocal exercises designed to teach support and placement. Having performed leads on and Off Broadway, I know that without good technique you can't do eight shows a week, do back to back sets in a nightclub or cabaret or tour as a pop or rock singer. The second half of the lesson is spent on songs. As an acting as well as vocal coach, I focus on dramatics as well as musical interpretation. A singer must be connected to the words as well as the music. I hope to teach you to love singing as much as I do.

Mary is a lively, voluble person with enormous experience particularly in musical theater who enjoys working with students.
Initially and as the student moves along, Mary assesses talent and abilities and then continues to periodically reassess the learning in a manner that never ceases to amaze me. I have been working with Mary for six months and found her evaluations of my strengths and what I need to work on to be spot on every time.
What I esteem most is Mary's technical acumen, the techniques she learned from her teachers and mentors and her experience as a performer. Her keen ear and eye immediately pick out every nuance being sung that needs work. She answers questions about where "to go" in throat, mouth, tongue, torso, etc., demonstrating how to correctly produce the sounds, tones, and supported breathing in question. Voice teachers, of course, are supposed to do this. Mary does this superbly.
If you are seeking a teacher who knows her technique, especially in musical theater, I highly recommend Mary.

Hi Mary,
In my opinion, our session last night wasn't productive. My opinion is, you weren't really interested in teaching me. Out of the 60 minute session. I only did about 3 to 5 minutes of exercises. You spent 55 minutes talking about your past and present students, professional actors you know, show business, acting techniques and your accomplishments. You did talk about about the script that i would read and the emotion behind it, but that lead into more about your students and professional actors you know. it took you 30 minutes in your office to find that script, (which should have been done a head of time) then we went downstairs and another 25 minutes of talking before i could read it to you.

Towards the end when i finally spoke up about so much time being passed and nothing being done. You said you needed to see my personality so you can know where to start with me. That made no sense to me, how are you seeing my personality if you are the one mostly talking about your accomplishments and who you know and what you've done?
Why not pick a point and start there and see what my weak and strong points are? You also asked me the same questions you asked me on the phone, have you ever taken lessons before, why do you want to act, what do you do for work which to me just consumed more time.

What i found surprising and discouraging was when you asked me why would I take acting classes up here when there are some of the best acting schools in the world just an hour away in New York City? I wish you had said that to me over the phone before our meeting, I would reconsider taking lessons from you and just spend the extra money and go down to the city. If i were an instructor i would be grateful for anyone who sacrificed their time and money to come see me, and never ask why they chose me when there is better not that far away. With that said I have decided to cancel my remaining lessons with you please do not bill me any further.

Jason

PS Telling a person of color that they are a weird fit as a real estate agent in Croton N.Y, and would be a better fit in Brooklyn N.Y was discriminatory and offensive to me.

I am very knowledgeable about the theater and musical theater cannon. The most significant point in my lessons are to help students find Monologues, Scenes and Songs that they can use in auditions or in other performance opportunities. I work with a student, online or in-person to get to know them and find material that fits and excites them. I have six years of teaching experience with children and five with adults. I love helping students discover material they love. When you love your material you are doing, it makes all the difference. I find that as an actor myself I do my best when I love a monologue or song I am doing, so I want to bring that joy to others!

About Rebecca
I am a professional actor in the city of Chicago. I have lived here my whole life and have a BFA in Acting from The Theatre School at DePaul. I love to perform in all types of theater, from plays to Musical Theatre to Shakespeare. Theater excites me and I love to teach because it is such a rewarding feeling to collaborate with a student and help them discover what works for them.

I have been teaching for the past 6 years, working with kids between the ages of 3.5-14, as well adults of all ages. I have taught at multiple children's theater companies as well as taken private students. My specialty is helping students find material for auditions and other performance opportunities. I have a vast knowledge of the theater cannon and love to search for monologues, scenes and songs that fit a student. I feel it is important to love the work
you do, and I love to assist students in making those discoveries; making them feel confident and ready for auditions! Students can expect to grow immensely and feel continuously comfortable with material that makes them passionate and ready to take on the world!

Currently, I am in Nashville instead of Chicago for a musical. As of now, I can only do online lessons, but could do in person lessons in Nashville. I will be back to in-person Chicago auditions in October.

When I am not acting or teaching, I can be found cooking, reading, doing yoga, and traveling. I think a vital part of acting is also finding ways to relax and enjoy everything around you!

Miss Angela is a wonderful, resourceful, fun, energetic, experienced, knowledgeable and likable acting teacher.
My two daughters have attended the past 4 years at PAW camp at West LA location where Miss Angela is the Camp Director.
We have recommended the camp to many local friends and families and they too attended and agreed.
Recently my daughters took after school child acting classes and again we are very happy.
I would highly consider and recommend Miss Angela as a acting mentor and positive role model for your children.

Normally, I don't write reviews for teachers until a couple of months have passed, but I acquiesce as TakeLessons keep on spamming me to write a review. Unlike other reviews, I'm not going to act as an echo chamber for five-star reviews. This review is based on two months with her after ten one hour online lessons through Skype.

Let's start with the positives. Denise puts in a good amount of effort in teaching you. She's flexible with accommodating your schedule, and she tailors her lessons based on what your goals are. This is evident from her referring to her notes when beginning her lessons with me. She also isn't a clock watcher who makes sure your lesson ends straight on the minute unlike some other teachers.

Is she effective as a speaking voice teacher? So far, yes there has been some progress made. Her methodology might be a bit more different than other speaking voice teachers I studied under. Other teachers focus more on the phonetic sounds, while Denise linger more toward stretches probably due to her dancing background. If you don't like Yoga type of stretches, you may be in for a bad time.

Keep in mind that due to my focus on developing a voice for acting, I'm also not having a pure speaking voice lesson as my lessons are intertwined with monologue work too. If you wish to take speaking voice lessons for public speaking, your mileage may vary.

So why a one-star deduction? Denise at the start can be pushy with trying to sell you more lessons. I mean it goes without saying that of course you'll see improvements faster if you can devote more time to any class, but time and money are factors that everyone should always consider. Let's be frank, private lessons on TakeLessons aren't cheap (unless you're rich of course). I was annoyed when she repeated her tactic three times, enough that it affected my decision to nearly not renew my monthly lessons with her.

She did cease when it seem like I wouldn't budge. Nevertheless, the pushiness did leave my experience a bit tainted, which made me question her sincereness with her excitement and positive reinforcement at times. I continue to give her a chance though because I do feel there's an ongoing improvement with my speech and line delivery. Also because we get along despite being complete opposites in some ways (which seem to frustrate and intrigue her). Despite being my teacher, I see her as a peer in a way because of how close in age we are, but I digress as this review is about her effectiveness as a teacher.

I would recommend giving Denise a try if you’re an actor seeking a speaking voice teacher. In person lessons are still best, but she has proven to be effective as an online teacher despite being a tad pushy with having you buy more lessons from her.

For me as an actor, the benefit of a great coach or director has always been that they've helped me reach places in my work I couldn't have achieved on my own. As a coach myself, I'm most thrilled by those small (or monumental!) breakthroughs that my students and I discover together during the coaching process. The cool thing is that I've found the progress my students make in their craft will often inspire me to new heights in my own. (A bonus to already enriching work)!

If you want to develop new material for upcoming auditions, hone and refresh (or completely change) your monologues, or simply work on the craft of acting, I can help. I work to gear your coaching sessions to the goals you need to achieve, offering an experience created around what you need to work on and want to learn.

With a BFA in Acting and Directing, an MFA in Classical Acting, and over 20 years of professional acting experience in the theatre and on-camera, I can offer tools for your tool belt ...

About Jason
I've been performing roles in the theatre and on-camera for over 25 years. My BFA in Acting and Directing and my MFA in Classical Acting have afforded me a wide variety of tools and skills to employ in the craft of acting. Performing with professional repertory companies like ACT Theatre, Book-It Repertory, Shakespeare Santa Cruz, and the Shakespeare Theatre in DC, I've gained personal knowledge of the art, craft, and business of being a working actor, which I will put to work for you, in a personalized one-on-one coaching session, either online or in person.

Here's how I can help.

SCENE WORK AND MONOLOGUES: Whether it's dusting off and refreshing monologues you've performed more times than you can count, or developing pieces or scenes for the first time for an upcoming stage or on-camera audition, we can break the material down togethe
r, work on the clarity of your choices and active objectives, and access your personal connection to the material so you'll be ready and confident with a one-of-a-kind performance that reflects the strengths you bring to acting and the story you want to tell.

SHAKESPEARE: Perhaps the most daunting of styles for a contemporary actor, we'll get down to the nuts and bolts of some of the most challenging (and rewarding) material. The famous soliloquies are famous for a reason and can certainly be intimidating, and more obscure material can seem thick and inaccessible. We'll chip away at the mystique of Shakespeare by digging in to the text and verse, activating the language with specificity, and cultivating your personal take on well-known characters or lesser known material they might not have seen before.

DIALECTS AND ACCENTS: From English to Irish to Southern American and beyond, a well executed dialect can be the edge you need to land (and play) that meaty role. I use a multipronged approach that involves ear training to develop an authentic sound, text analysis for clarity of sound substitutions (IPA Proficient), and exercises that pare away stilted and unnatural speech to cultivate an authentic sounding voice that will be your own.

VOICEOVER: I've been booking voiceover gigs on TV, radio, and the internet for over 10 years with clients like Microsoft, Liberty Mutual, UW Medicine, Tableau, Reno Toyota, and Golden One State Credit Union. I can offer tips and tricks of the trade, as well as techniques that can take your VO submissions to the next level and help you book these lucrative contracts.

Let's get started!

If you are looking to pursue an acting career or if you just want to boost your confidence in public, this is the class for you! Experienced acting coach of 3 years, background acting experience, national drama competition winner 2011, President of Drama Club, and I won Best Personality in high school (wink). I specialize in improv, stage performance, dramatic monologues, and background casting calls. Ages 7-18. Lessons are customized and catered to the needs/goals of each student. I love to combine classic techniques with a few modern spins. So what are you waiting for? Lights....Camera....ACTION!

About Naquasha
I am a lover of the arts! Since I was a little girl I've been in a number of musicals and plays. In 2011, I was talented enough to travel to Los Angels, CA to compete in a national drama competition. I placed 2nd in the improv category. Although I am not interested in pursing acting as a full time career, it is a skill that I hold close to my heart.
I attended Claflin University where I received my Bachelor's in Early Education. My passion for teaching has then led me to become an AmeriCorp member where I was privileged enough to work in public schools with high risk youth teaching them ELA and life skills. Through Take Lessons I aspire to combine my theater knowledge and teaching experience to give my students the best resource possible.

I coach children ages 7-18 and all levels of experience but with a focus on beginners. I have been
an acting coach for 3 years and I have had students land minor roles in productions in the Southeast area. I focus on stage presence, technique, articulation and projection, memory, film and tv slating/audition critique, and personal confidence.

My passion for learning and performing is what makes this venture a special one. I hope that you or your child decides to take a lesson with me. I know it will be an unforgettable experience.

As a child and teen, I was always active in the performing arts in school. Taking major roles in many productions and performing numerous solo singing acts throughout my years prepared me for success. In my early twenties I was scouted by agents across the country for my talents in acting, singing, commercial modeling, and dancing. In addition to awards for my acting, I've written and recorded over 30 original songs for myself and other artists and have had 4 singles on iTunes. My fans stretch across 15 countries!

After performing in live major acting and singing showcases, music videos, and attracting the personal attention of America’s Got Talent producers, I found my passion in helping others improve their craft by scouting & coaching kids, teens and adults in TV Commercials, Scenes, Monologues, Improv and Cold Reading, and Singing Pe
rformance.

I'm proud to say many of my students have been in a variety of productions and have been signed by major modeling and acting agencies in NY and LA. Working closely with a wide range of agents in the industry has given me a behind-the-scenes look into what agents are looking for in new talent which I willingly shares with all of my students and clients.

About Frances
Performing is my life passion and I love all that the arts have to offer. My first acting role being in the school play at age 5, there was no turning back for me. I continued acting and playing music during my younger year, until I started getting more serious training. I went to the Performing Arts Academy as an acting major all fours years of high school. Based on that training, I had the opportunity to audition for the Metrovation Acting Scholarship at the Two River Theater Company, which I was accepted, and where my passion for acting really expanded. I have taught at the children's acting summer camps at Two River Theater, as well as some private clients. From there I have auditioned all over NYC and have done works from Shakespeare to new works. I attended Point Park University Conservatory of the Performing Arts as an acting majo
r where I studied various techniques and methods, solidifying my acting training. I started out as a very shy child, and the arts have really been the most transformative experience in my life. I am looking forward to helping others achieve their dreams.

Careers in Acting: On Stage and Behind the Scenes
Directors, flymen, producers, actors, and even box office staff – there are so many options available to those who have a passion for the performing arts industry. All careers in acting for stage are linked by one thing: a shared love and appreciation for creating live theater. 6 Mistakes You’re Making on Your Acting Resume
Professional actors often can’t help but feel a little powerless when it comes to the process of auditioning and booking jobs.
