About Laura
I am a mezzo soprano with a bachelor and masters of music degree in vocal performance from the University of Houston. I am pursuing a career in opera while teaching private voice and piano lessons,
During my voice lessons I like to focus on developing the student's voice through a classical approach. By forming a strong foundation in healthy singing the student will be able to sing in various genres without strain to his/her voice.
In my piano lessons I use the series of method books, Piano Adventures, developed by Nancy and Randall Faber. Through these instructions the student will learn to read music as well as establish a proficiency for playing the piano.

*** Lesson Details ***
If you take lessons from me we will have fun while working hard. I develop my lessons around what I feel the student needs on that particular day.
In a
voice lesson we might spend the entire time on technique exercises to strengthen the voice. We might also work on several songs with an emphasis on interpretation.
In regards my piano lessons, I generally stick to the curriculum, but will take the time to focus on the individual needs of the student.
I expect my students to practice at least 30 minutes a day for 5 days a week. Everyone learns at a different rate, but if the student practices regularly, he/she will see progress within a few months.

*** Studio Equipment ***
I have an upright piano in my studio as well as several music books. I expect my students to bring their music as well as their assignment book to every lesson.

*** Specialties ***
I specialize in a classical technique when it comes to teaching voice. I focus on proper breath support and a relaxed open larynx to produce a free, beautiful sound. I believe a classical foundation can be applied to any musical genre, with the result that you are singing in a healthy manner that will not damage your vocal chords, thus allowing for a longer singing career.

Singing should feel as easy as speech… it's that simple. No matter if you're singing high notes, or low notes, loud or soft notes, your throat, jaw and tongue should be as tension free and natural feeling as when you're speaking.

I teach a vocal technique (the way you use your voice when you sing) which allows this free and clear singing throughout a singer's range, without tension or the fear of "cracking". It can be applied to every style of music all without any strain in the voice. Any age, any experience level will advance.

The power of this singing technique is not only the result - a clear, comfortable, effortless voice - but it's also the process, a process that is natural, fun and fast. It's not full of boring technical stuff that goes on for months and years.

Before I began teaching about 25 years ago, he knew I wanted give performers a powerful singing technique that can quickly be applied to every musical style, no matter their age or experience level. It has ...

About Eric
For almost 25 years, I've had the privilege to have worked with thousands of performers who study with me from all over the world. I teach in-studio at my two locations in Houston and in The Woodlands, Texas. I also work with students who come to me from all over the globe via online over-the-web Skype lessons.

Originally from Detroit, I enjoyed being a "Jack of all styles" singer/musician for over 15 years. I was a professional musician performing Classical, Jazz, Pop, Rock, Gospel, Musical Theater, Commercial and Studio work, along with being very involved in Contemporary Christian music. While I very much loved to perform, I found myself drawn much more to the joy of teaching. Vocal instruction and improvisational piano teaching eventually became my passion, and so I've poured my time and energies into teaching singers and players t
o become, well… better musicians!

I have been singing in Choirs and Bands for a number of years and learned more about my voice and singing properly in a 45 minute session with Eric than I have in all my years of performing. I now understand why I have been struggling to sing in my upper register and Eric has put together a personalized program to help me develop my voice and gain back my vocal range. Eric has a great sense of humor and made the session very enjoyable as well as informative. I look forward to my next session and would highly recommend Eric as an instructor.

My lesson plans are designed to be musical and fun. I want my students to learn the language of the music and understand the theory behind it. Techniques on how to strengthen the voice and get the best tonal quality. The one thing that will allow you to succeed is having a desire to learn and a passion for music. If you have those two things then I can direct you to the right path to achieve your musical goals!

My daughter really enjoy's working with Steven and practicing piano is no longer a chore for her. I would like to say Steven was an amazing piano teacher for my 5 year old and he really was able to teach him a lot of the basics and some neat tunes. He is great with kids and with my child being 5 and needing a lot of patience it was really a breeze for Steven to teach and keep his attention during the lesson. He is definitely a natural at what he does! I am very satisfied with Steven and his style of teaching. I have been teaching this subject for over 16 years. There is no specific curriculum as each student will come to lessons with their own unique skills, needs, and goals. Lessons are tailored to those specifics. It is not necessary to know how to read music at the first lesson for beginners. However, learning to read is required for subsequent lessons and will be a large focus for all non-readers. Music is not learned "by ear." A certain amount of theory will be a part of every lesson just as technique and repertoire. Concerning repertoire, it may be selected from the western classical, musical theatre, and popular rep based on the student's goals and learning needs with their input. The main emphasis on performance lessons, however, will be technique and reading. Students should come to the first lesson prepared to discuss their background & goals and the plan of their course of study.

About Troy
Composer Troy W. graduated from the New England Conservatory, earning his Bachelors, Masters (cum laude) and Graduate Diploma while studying with mentor Malcolm Peyton. After spending a year studying with Lukas Foss in Boston, Mr. W. moved to Houston in 2001 where he continued graduate studies at Rice University's Shepherd School of Music.

During his time as a teacher with the Michael P. Hammond Preparatory Program at Rice University's Shepherd School of Music, Troy taught classes in music fundamentals and music theory for pre-college students. He has also served on the faculty of the Summer Institute for Piano teaching courses in Form & Analysis for pre-college students.

Troy also has maintained a private studio, tutoring and teaching private lessons in composition, ear training, voice, piano, literature, and history for over ten
years. Students who have studied with him come from a wide range of backgrounds with different goals. Those who have continued with musical studies in college have consistently placed out of at least the first two semesters of music theory and achieved advanced placement in their chosen fields of study. Those who chose a different path continue to benefit from the education and training they received from taking music lessons.

*** Lesson Details ***
There is no "standard formula" to lessons. Each student has their own unique background, needs, and goals. Lessons tend to be somewhat casual but are structured in such a way as to meet the unique requirements of the student.

To accomplish your goals, there are a few requirements and basic expectations that the student and parent must meet.
The first is practice. Students are expected to practice daily for at least the length of their lesson time. This, above all else, is essential to progress. It is also expected that a parent will attend lessons for students who are too young to drive themselves here. It's important for a parent to guide the student's practice time (particularly for younger students) to ensure that the most is gained from it. This is why I ask that a parent observe lessons.
Each student or parent should bring to each lesson a notebook, pencils (with erasers). The notebook will be used to record notes about each lesson, homework, practice advice, etc. Pencils (not pens...nobody's perfect!) are used by composers to record their creations and performers to mark their music. Both of these essential practices are subject to changing thought and must be open to change. So no ink, please!

Performers: It is not necessary to know how to read music at the first lesson for beginners. However, learning to read is required for subsequent lessons and will be a large focus for all non-readers. Lessons are not learned "by ear." A certain amount of theory will be a part of every lesson just as technique and repertoire. Concerning repertoire, it will be selected based on the student's learning needs but also with their input. The main emphasis on performance lessons, however, will be technique and reading. Students should come to the first lesson prepared to discuss their background & goals and the plan of their course of study.
Note: Voice students must be at least 16 years of age.

Composers: Just as with performers, it is not necessary to know how to read music at the first lesson. However, learning to read is required for subsequent lessons. Many young composers have great ideas but can only hear them in their heads or play them on an instrument. Lessons will allow you to obtain the skills to write them down with greater speed, accuracy, and clarity. More advance students will also include exploring a wider range of harmonic languages, advanced notation, instrumentation, orchestration, and aural skills. Students should come to the first lesson with examples of their work, either written, notated, or recorded in a digital format. They should be prepared to discuss their background & goals and the plan of their course of study.

IMPORTANT NOTES:
• To reschedule a lesson, more than one day notice is required.

• Make up lessons must be scheduled before the next regular lesson.

• A make up lesson cannot be scheduled in place of a regular lesson.

• If, for any reason, two 30-minute lessons are scheduled one right after the other, they will be charged as two 30-minute lessons, not one 60 minute lesson which is a different rate.

• If, for any reason, two 45-minute lessons are scheduled one right after the other, they will be charged as two 45-minute lessons, not one 90 minute lesson which is a different rate.

• the studio space is also inhabited by two lovely cats. Do consider this when signing up for lessons.

*** Studio Equipment ***

This session takes a unique approach to traditional voice lessons. We start by listening, breathing and building up our vocal strength, and end in harmony. Please be advised : This class will bring lots of laughter and smiles into your students' life!

About Rachel
I started my musical path in a Ballet Studio. I fell in love with the crackle of the vinyl record playing as I learned to listen and dance with the rhythm.

I started playing the guitar when I was in elementary and took classical lessons until I was a teenager.I really enjoy the art of practice and the journey of patience. The process of learning has helped me carve out and cultivate my style of music. It's opened up a lot of doors for me in my life. I've had the honor to play with a lot of great performers and have been lucky enough to tour the U.S. and Canada with festivals and showcases such as Vans Warped Tour, South By Southwest and the Halifax Pop Explosion.I've been the opening act for Carolyn Wonderland, Maria Taylor, Tsunami Bomb, Tilly and the Wall, Basia Bulat, Rise Against, Strike Anywhere. Anathallo, Cursive, Milton Hopki
ns, and Pony Up.

When I have free time I volunteer with the Houston Chapter of Girls Rock Camp to help teach girls empowerment through songwriting and music.

I began teaching as an afterschool job when I was 16. I was homeschooled, so I feel that the experience taught me that everyone learns differently and that there is not just one standardized method to playing music.

My teaching style varies with each student, but the one constant is my ability to make each and every client I encounter completely fall in LOVE with music. It's my super power.

Lesson plans are tailored for your specific needs and to help you achieve your musical goals and aspirations at your desired pace. I enjoy my students and making music with them.

Finger Picking, Song Writing, Rhythm, Lead, Scales,Modes & Ear Training.

Songwriting and composition: Learn techniques, how to brain storm and plot your musical story line. This class pairs great with vocal lessons or guitar lessons.

As a musician with twenty-three years of experience, I find that having a desire to learn and dedicated practice is all that is needed to improve your ability. In lesson, I take a classical approach to teaching voice and piano. I have been teaching privately for four years and enjoy teaching genres including contemporary, jazz, opera, and broadway.
I am a soprano with a BA in music from California State University Stanislaus. I have preformed with the Houston Symphony Orchestra Chorus, Townsend Opera Players, Modesto Symphony Chorus, and Northstar Community Opera.
All of my singing students are taught that singing begins with proper breathing, good posture, pure vowels and a lack of tension. From there we discover what your unique voice sounds like and together we will shape it to into your optimal sound. My main approach in teaching voice is to cultivate vocal growth in a healthy way.
In your lessons we can also learn music theory, how to read music and music composition and ...

About Ally
I am a classically trained singer. I have had the opportunity to perform with Northstar opera as Despina in Cosi Fan Tutti, Gianetta in The Elixir of Love, and Sara Brown in Guys and Dolls. I have also been fortunate in getting to play Margot in The Merry Widow, Pitti-Sing in The Mikado, and Spirit II in The Magic Flute with Townsend Opera. I sang with the Houston Symphony Orchestra Chorus for three years and Modesto Symphony Chorus for four year. I have enjoyed composing music for several local theater groups and enjoy writing my own music.

Judith is a once in a lifetime mentor and voice coach that will work with you no matter where you are in your musical journey. She's been flexible, kind, and patient with me despite the fact that I had no prior musical experience whatsoever. I really can't put into words how much she's helped me in developing a creative outlet for myself. She also has a great concern for her student's health and emphasizes teaching how to sing in a healthy way without damaging one's voice. I've been her student for just a few months and I feel like I walk away with significant improvement every time I see her. Overall, I simply can't recommend her highly enough.
